  • How to Change Lanes - Tips for the Driving Exam. In this video: Verifications, Adapting your speed, The right Distances, No partial lane changes, Look anyway, Don't stare too long (at the mirrors and blind spot)

    On the section where I talk about what distance you should keep when changing lanes behind a vehicle, the clips were shot using an action cam, so the cars look further away than what they look in real life. Some other clips in the opening sequence "adjust your speed", were shot using a normal camera zoomed in, so the cars in front look closer than they actually are. So remember to always keep that two seconds gap, and in bad weather, keep three or four. That's also the gap you should keep at all times when following a moving vehicle. Some places recommend three to four seconds in normal driving conditions, and more in difficult conditions.
    Note: While I try to make my videos as universal as possible, rules and laws may vary according to the place where you’re driving and might be different from the ones in this video. Always drive according to the laws and rules that apply to the place where you are driving. Requirements at the driving exam may also be different than the ones shown here. Always respect the requirements that apply to the place where you are passing your driving exam. This video is not meant to replace your official driving courses.

    I've been driving for 15 years and never knew this method of changing lanes based on the size of the car in the mirror. It's always been a guess and prayer for me before changing lanes. Nobody teaches this stuff in driving school... You're a true life saver buddy, keep up the good work!

      well try that method on the german autobahn and you're gone. It's a good method but still without shoulder check still dangerous since the car you saw completly in the mirror could be driving twice or third your speed or suddenly accelerates

    • @autumnlindseyart
      @autumnlindseyart 4 роки тому +43

      @@Baandera- I think he meant in addition to looking behind you. And in the United States we don't have an autobahn so hopefully people won't be driving those speeds here. It's a good trick for beginner drivers as long as they are still careful and checking behind them. It's a helpful tip for me because I never know how close a car is and when it is safe to change lanes. I have to guess or ask the person I am with to look behind me and see if it is safe, which I obviously can't do on my driver's test. This won't work for larger vehicles probably, but for driving in town it's not a bad tip.

    This video helped me so much. I was terrified of driving and no one understood my fear. Im 28 and just got my license yesterday finally!! My best advice for those with a fear of driving is to just breathe and practice in residential areas near your home or near your local dmv office. Most likely that is where they will conduct your road test so you will feel comfortable in the area. The highway is still overwhelming but I'm sure I will adapt soon. Thank you for your videos!!

Like how do you focus on switching to the lane you want to without getting distracted by all the other cars in the other lanes? Because whenever I drive on the highway that’s my biggest problem. @@geordenecarpio5335 oo i feel you. not going to lie, it took me about 3 months into having my license to learn how to drive on the highway (this comment was when i had my permit lol) i got my license in february of this year and i did not take the highway until i felt comfortable switching lanes on the freeway. honestly for me, since i still have anxiety while switching lanes, as soon as i get on the highway, i stay on the right lane because all of my exits require me to exit on the right so it helps me to not switch lanes so often. if i’m driving for a while and i can’t take a slow driver on the right lane, i just look over to my mirror (if i feel really anxious i’ll check my shoulder) then whenever the time is good, i’ll switch lanes. if you turn on your turn signal far in advance of switching lanes, majority of drivers will let you over. never turn your signal on late because they won’t let you over because the highway is fast. focus on the lane YOU want to switch into and that’s it, don’t worry about the other cars. just the car you want to go in front of while switching lanes and your car. :)

    I have a driving phobia that has haunted me for years. My mother tried teaching me to drive, but it wasn't as to the point as this video. The example of how large a car should be in your right mirror has given me great confidence, as judging distances using mirrors has always been my weakest skill. I've had a few close calls by not knowing just how far away a car it to me when I changed lanes. I would always stay in the lanes I had to turn in WAY before I got there to avoid having to change lanes near the turn my GPS has told me to turn. Thank you so much for making this video!

    I am 26 and Im trying to get back into driving after not doing so for several years, I have only a permit and I had to renew it but I want to get better and pass the road test eventually. I always have questions about theses things, but seeing a visual example and a thorough explination is really helping me get over my driving anxities and it makes me look forward to my next driving lesson because I now have knowledge of these things.
    Thanks for helping me and so many out there like me!

    I'm a driving instructor in both the classroom, and behind the wheel, and this is a very clear explanation of how to lane change, and checking the blind spot. I'm also really glad that you mentioned the drop in speed with new drivers. I'm constantly telling students to either maintain the speed, or speed up. I rarely tell them to slow down to change the lane. If you don't mind, I would like to use this video in my class.

    Just passed my driving test. I was super nervous, however the examinator was super chill and it really calmed my nerves. Got asked to turn on the emergency blinkers in the start, check if they worked, and told him where and when to use them. (situations that need more attention, f.ex. accidents, road blocks etc.)
    I made a couple of mistakes, however nothing major happened, there was no cars nearby (which I made sure of beforehand) but the overall performance of my driving was good enough to pass.
    My biggest tip is to just simply keep your head cool. Find your own way, I spent an hour before leaving to just repeat some of the theory. This made me sure that I knew my stuff.
    I had a warmup session with my driving teacher before the test, which I'm really glad I had. It gave me a chance to warm up to the car and the conditions on the road. It had just rained, and there was quite a lot of sun, so driving extra careful was a good choice.
    Me and my dad drove every day for 1-2 weeks before the test. This is by far the biggest reason for me passing the test. If you come to your test and you're rusty it will show and lower the overall picture of your driving that the examinator gets.
    Some small mistakes are allowed, and as long as nothing happens, put it in the back of your mind and don't overthink it till you're done. I assumed I failed after the first mistake, but I kept focusing on my driving.
    Good luck to anyone else who's here before their test!

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  6 років тому

      In the central mirror, you see what's farther away behind. So if there's someone coming from behind a lot faster than you, you'll see them before you even need to check the other stuff. Also, if someone is directly behind you, and they change lanes at the exact moment you're about to do it too, you'll see that in the central mirror, and not necessarily on the side mirror. I've known quite a few students that failed their exam for precisely this reason.

    • @airplayrule
      @airplayrule 6 років тому +1

      Conduite so if i need to make a left turn at the next light, and it's traffic, i have to look behind, then, side mirror, then behind shoulder, then turn, all without swirving, or hitting the car ahead of me, and without slowing down....but if i see a car there, then i gotta speed up or let him pass, then, start all over,....how is that not hard or dangerous?
      i got my license now but my instructor NEVER said to check the back mirror and i NEVER did...how is that possible?

    • @airplayrule
      @airplayrule 6 років тому

      can u reply to my last comment here (it's about lane changing). this is confusing and nobdoy told me this stuff and i never did it.
      also: even if i see somebody in my rear view mirror...that happens all the time, and yes, many are fast (obviously not faster than me or else they'd hit me). by your logic, i never change lanes cause there's always somebody behind me who isn't slower than me?
