    I learn so much from your videos . And they work . We’re just home gardeners but a big garden and getting older and what I have learned it’s making it so we can keep it up. I have to say thank you.

      I love growing vegetables, not pulling weeds, Glad to help. Everything we do comes from small scale urban gardening and it works at all scales!

    Glad to hear it is warmer in your neck of the woods. Projected hard freeze in northern Missouri tonight, zone 5B. Much too cold to plant any plants outside now and we need to. Bought a mulch layer this year and we are looking forward to see how well it works on weed control.

    How much micro-plastic from the weed fabric in the veg, ever tested, thanks.

    • @farmerkeith
      @farmerkeith  4 місяці тому

      The micro plastics are transported through rain and irrigation water, so anything additional, possibly from the fabric, is irrelevant.

      I would also like to better understand the impact of this barrier product as it breaks down. Is soil contamination a concern?

      Ever try the Vevor fabric? Price looks much better than the DeWitt

    Hello Keith,
    Have you ever tried burning 3-5cm (1-2in) wide strips instead of holes?For carrots, parsleys etc...
    You are pleasure to watch.
    Best regards

    • @farmerkeith
      @farmerkeith  Рік тому

      I have. You have to leave a connection point in the middle of the strips or they move too much. Seeding into it is fun too. Lol.
      Here's the video, I was much younger back them:

    I'm still running the drip under the fabric. But it's a pain to spread the fabric out, burn holes, pull it up, layout drip tape, check to make sure it's not leaky, put the fabric back on, secure it with staples, then finally transplant. Maybe Ill try it with the drip on top for a bed and see for myself.

      If I use drip on fabric it is on top so you can see it, holes are bad. If plastic than below because that is where the layer puts ot.

    It would be interesting to see WHICH woven plastic is best for which growing seasons and veggies. The 'BLACK' cools the soil while it BLOCKS sunlight & suppresses 'Weed growth' wherein I believe the 'WHITE' plastic *_should_* DRAW sunlight and perhaps it HEATS the soil underneath?

    Does it cause roots to stay shallow due to lack of air? Do worms leave the garden vector the fabric?

    • @farmerkeith
      @farmerkeith  6 місяців тому

      The air passes through the fabric and the worms are still here.

    What zone are you in? We’re in z4, just putting cabbage out now, strawberries last week. Nothing else for at least 2 more weeks. Last ‘normal’ frost free date is 5/25, but I have seen frost as late as 6/20 and as early as 8/25 (one rough year).

    Good I was worried about the water going through the fabric

    • @farmerkeith
      @farmerkeith  Рік тому

      For the first few days to a week on new fabric the water will bead off. Don't worry the fabric will relax and the water will soak through.
