My band mate and myself both played Guild. I had the D50 and he had the D55. They were both work horse's. The year was 1976. Today I still play a guild !
That Guild D-55 sounds incredible, I would like to have one of them in my corral. Great video guys that one was the best one ever. Thats all I got, see ya!!!
Nice sounding guitar. What is the neck profile like? I do well with Martin modified low oval and modified V. So you're telling me this is better than the Guild guitars made in Hoboken NJ? Thanks John and Jeremy
I always wanted a Bluegrass Jubilee. Those guitars really gave a D-28 a run for its money. I gave my Brother a pre Fender D4N as I recall Fender bought Guildnearvthe end of 1994. Cheers
I’ve jonesed for the D55 for a lot of years. It’s on my top five “grail” list. I’m not yet to the place where I’m comfortable playing a guitar this costly as a daily. It wouldn’t be a case queen. But not a daily. Now that I’ve played one, it will continue to live in my mind with the best I’ve played.
I’m interested in buying a Guild F-512 but if it took you guys 3 attempts to get one good D-55 well that is scary. I might want to wait and see how Guild is really doing
Ooh, that's a nice sounding guitar. Flat picking is my style, and medium gauge strings are standard. Are these strings mediums? And, just wondering what size pick (mm) you're using. Also, could you describe the neck shape. Thanks!
The neck shape on the D-55 is just a standard C Shape, we also believe that there were light strings used in this video. John's pick in this video would be the BlueChip TAD 55-3R, or 1.3mm.
I owned 2 d55"s. Both made in rhode island and both great guitlars. But so different. One was heavy. My new one. Then i got my used one. For 800. Dollars i used it for many years. Loved that guitar. Kinda retired. Sold it for 2500 still miss it S
I have the chance to buy one locally, secondhand, (I'm in a European country with 25% sales tax) Condition appears to be immaculate, judging by the photos, one previous, female, owner who fingerpicks. Asking price is equivalent to US$ 1,650. New price here, with shipping and 25% sales tax, is US$ 4,750. What is the second-hand price in the US? I'm tempted to sell off some valuables and buy it?
Depending on the year & condition of course, after doing a quick search on Reverb, it looks like a majority of these are going for a little over $3,000 USD.
I've been REALLY wanting a Guild D-55 or D-40, but had a bad experience with a previous Cordoba Acero D-11CE (discontinued after a short run right before Cordoba bought Guild)....in which I paid over $800 only to have the bridge lift right from the start. That was a chinese made guitar, and I wonder if that's the same factory now making the Westerly Guilds.
Love Guild but this…I haven’t touched it wasn’t available at the GC or I just did not notice…I got three though, I loved the D20…I finger pick even the smallest ukulele 😂❤ ty guys…btw d55 can out sing some Upper end Martin y the like
I had a Guild D55 that I bought new for a good deal in the 90s. I hope they have improved them since then. Ivoroid binding began peeling off from the fretboard. Bridge lifted. It was heavy and overbuilt. Came with plastic bridge pins, on a flagship model? Not worth the money. Sound was not great compared to the D40 and D50. Maybe I just got a lemon. A flagship model should at least have real wood binding and wood or Tusq bridge pins. Luckily I got a good price when I sold it on eBay a few years later. Also there is no continuity with Guild, they’ve moved several times, sold and resold. Maybe this new model is much better, I don’t know. Most of the celebrities who play them have custom shop models by the way. Not straight from factory floor. I don’t mean to be hater, but buyer beware. Not all that glitters is gold.

Nice!
I have a 1979 D-55 (pre-Fender) made in Waverly, RI. Love it.
So jealous!

Nice guitar… thanks, and Happy New Year!
Sweet sounds from back in the 70's. Nice job again Gents. Happy New Year
Its alarming to hear that they need to be sent back with QC issues at that price point. I have a 1980 D50 and a 1972 D35. Love them.

What a beautiful guitar! That headstock is Epic looking!

I had one of these along with a F50R and a F512 12 string back in the 70's , 80's...all sounded good but built very heavy like a tank.
Thanks for the CSNY! Guild sounds awesome!

It has a 12" fretboard radius - which I mention because I like it.
Nice Sounding Instrument, John did a great job demoing it.
Thanks!
Fit nice with my Dv52 and D40 Triditional.

The best guild I ever owned is my dv 52. Which I still play
Hey guys love the channel ... .can you tell me what are the two mics you're using & what kind of preamp?
We use Ear Trumpet Labs Mics and a Midas MR18 Interface, thanks for watching!
My dream guitar but from the 70s only. Had a 77 D50 that I had to sell😢
I’ve heard this comment about being able to “still spray a nitrocellulose finish”. Are there laws in the US or California that now limit this?
Yes it is being limited in many places, including California.
Is the Guild D-55 USA the highest top spec, or is there a Custom Shop, etc?
That Furch’n Guild is nice.
Agreed! 😂

They did have a few bad years for sure but they are amazing!
What is the best guitar you have every played
What are some of the problems you’re coming across. Thanks
Well, I'd put my 74 D-50 up against this new one Any Day ! Go Guild...
The best Guild money can buy is the F-55 maple :)
No one EVER mentions George Strait when recalling the “big stars” who’ve played Guild.
To be fair he is most associated with Taylor nowadays, but he was a Guild guy 🤷♂️
It's pronounced Ox-Nard ...not Nerd. Just sayin...
Had one n sold it like an Idiot
Way too much talk
Awful
