    I’m going with the standard also with the HPFP & 2.5” discharge pipes. These set ups are expensive with the Cobb AP, custom E tune, DSG tune, discharge pipes, HPFP, intercooler, down pipe, intake, NGK plugs your looking at some coin. Then install glad I’m handy with a wrench

    I’m on the fence between building my motor/ head and doing a full frame or doing a vortex xl on stock motor and putting that extra money towards trading in for an rs3 or f82 m4 in a few years

    • @F87Jake
      @F87Jake  3 роки тому +2

      Personally I would never build a FWD car with high horsepower just due to how much you will spin. Better off building an s3 or R. Nothing wrong with going xl and stock motor.

    What was the reasoning behind going with the standard housing vs. the XL housing? Spool time/low end torque? Trying to decide which turbo to move onto in my MK7 GTI and I am thinking the EQT Vortex XL is the best option out there

    • @MeltingRubberZ28
      @MeltingRubberZ28 3 роки тому +1

      Why would you go XL? The standard holds boost to 7000 RPM and can make enough boost to scatter your connecting rods on the pavement. Not sure why anyone would want an XL unless they have a built bottom end. And even then if you're putting it in a GTI you'd still be doing burnouts at 80mph

    • @TheTexican05
      @TheTexican05 10 місяців тому +2

      For most of us who elect for the standard:
      -Better street manners (earlier spooling)
      -Runs beautifully up to ~29psi
      -Most of us running standard are out for 28-29psi pro tunes on 91-93 octane
      -The option to add MPI & a bigger LPFP later for E85 use is always there, but not mandatory
      -You can get away with using the stock MAP & PUT sensors with the standard Vortex
      -Fewer supporting mods overall are needed: MPI, discharge pipes, and in many cases even a larger LPFP, are not requirements for the Vortex standard
      The XL (EQT and XL customers have confirmed this) is ideal for folks wanting to go BEYOND the 29psi threshold. You can spin a standard to 31psi, but it's most within its efficiency range at 28-29psi. The XL exists for folks wanting to break 500-550whp on E-blend fuels. The added fuel mass of the ethanol really wakes up some of the larger turbos and allows them to spool up earlier. On pump gas they tend to be [i.e. "feel"] a lot lazier.
      That said, I think the XL is great for Golf R and Audi Quattro owners who can UTILIZE that insane power, but for us FWD GTI folks, the Standard with a pro-tune and HPFP is the sweet spot. Still makes power out to 7200rpm (well beyond the IS38's profile that falls off after ~6000), and I don't have to push my SBE (stock bottom end) too hard - we tune the IS38 and Vortex standard so it stays around 420-430wtq to preserve the pistons and rods.

    Your running RS3 spark Plugs with Vortex Standard Turbo? Is that what they recommend or is that what you had and they just tuned it to your specific spark plug? I'm looking into the Vortex also. But on the list of recommendation is says NGK race plug if you use a Vortex Turbo, and RS7 plugs if it's a stock turbo?
