I got this on cassette for Christmas. It was one of those books and cassette jobs that were popular when we were kids. I also had the novelisation and it was years before I actually got to see the film. Thanks so much for uploading this... It really was a massive nostalgia hit!
It was a great time for story tapes - I also got the Rainbow reading of Back to the Future the Christmas I got Gremlins - but Gremlins had the greater replay value...
I adore this channel. It’s the best on UA-cam. This tape recording, like many, is like receiving a present to my younger self. How I would have loved this.
That's extremely kind of you to say - though I can't claim to be the first to have shared this reading on YT. I got it for Christmas the same year as the Rainbow story tape of Back to the Future, and in retrospect they probably helped get me into Radio Drama. I do think this particular reading is something of a classic though - the retelling moves very quickly but carefully and Tom Baker handles it all perfectly. I'm glad that it has a similar nostalgic power even for those who didn't hear it in childhood...
@@mysteriousmagpie I grew up with Marshall and cavendish’s “Storyteller 2” it came out fortnightly with a magazine and tape, which me and my sister shared. However we both got our own Christmas versions and mine had, “A Christmas Carol”. I’d recommend it for this channel. I have a deep love for the audio drama specifically supernatural and I mostly run out of stuff to listen too. Radio 4 tends to repeat stuff. Anyway so much fun listening. Thankyou again !
@@maryrose8016 From what I remember, Storyteller 2 was the second year of Storyteller - and I only got one of those, but it was their first Christmas special tape, which I loved. There is a YT channel devoted to the magazine, with diligent uploads of the tapes, with images from the magazine, if you want to revisit it: www.youtube.com/@StoryTellerForever/videos
I love it myself - strangely I hesitated over uploading it, not certain if it was quite right... but it's attracted a lot of appreciative comments in no time at all so it was obviously the right decision. I was given the story tape and book on Christmas Day back when I was a child, so the more I think about it, the more it actually seems a perfect choice for the channel...
@@mysteriousmagpie I’m glad you did upload it and I can’t wait to see what you upload next. Tom Baker Like Stephen Fry has a really good voice for narrating stories in my opinion. I remember a series from when I was younger, called point horror and one of the titles in the series was called dream date. The audio cassette was narrated with dramatisation as well similar to the gremlins upload today.
@@staceymccook5424 I was a little too old for Point Horror - well, actually that's not true, it just didn't catch me in its net when it started to appear. But there were an awful lot of 'experimental' audio books in those days. Come to think of it, even back in the days of Vinyl companies like Argo were producing full cast readings of books like Dracula which were technically readings but felt like they were dramatisations... The His Dark Materials audiobook from the early 2000s is like that - and unabridged, too, which made it a very expensive buy on cassette at the time. But worth it.
I read "Tom Baker" & hit the LIKE.
I loved this movie when it came out but I must say I love this reading even more. Tom's voice makes the story more omnious, sinister and fun.

Hi. Thank you for uploading this. I haven’t heard this before or watched the film either. I’m really enjoying this audio book.

A unique story! Thanks
That was such a cute story. Better than the movie❤😊
Is it mere coincidence that Tom Baker is reading this when he has publicly admitted he hates water!!!??
Do NOT get a Tom Baker wet... EVER!! 😮
But that raises a more important question - what happens if you feed him after midnight? Or, has he already been fed after midnight, long ago?
Love Tom. Shame about the God awful music soundtrack. Composed by a child?
