I really wish sellers wouldn’t use stock photos. Green Escape has everything but they will send out some small plants with small root systems sometimes. I got two anthurium and they are comically tiny. I’ve never got an unhealthy plant from them before though. Hope they turn out great!
Thank you! I actually noticed they were using some instagram photos as well. Not very cool and sorta upset me. I'm so hearing you. Im so disappointed i receive the tiniest anthurium villenaorum. I hope I can grow this . I've never received anything this tiny. I ordered stratum for sure. Scary
I received a variegated polly from the same shop a few days ago and mine had great variegation. I’ve ordered before and the shop is great if you are unhappy and want a refund or replacement plant, though for a replacement you do have to place another order. I also ordered a maranta light veins, which was very reasonably priced and gorgeous. Wish you the best with your purchases.
@@cactoise2067 interesting!!! Maybe the shop knew Melissa does plant videos and ordered from them so they needed to hop on to counter the reviews?? Ugh.

i ordered the variegated polly from them back in october and i was also kind of disappointed with it upon arrival...and I'm still kind of disappointed with it 2 months later. maybe its still adjusting but it hasn't given me any new leaves whatsoever. i also got an anthurium which has given me a new leaf and sized up well. im hoping they both have a growth spurt in the spring!
aww hopefully it will give you a new leaf here soon and with lots of variegation! I thought the price was too good to pass up on it. Crossing fingers for us both!
I’m definitely interested in seeing your experience with TGE! I’ve had some mixed experiences, but I feel like my plugs come much better than the larger plants I buy from them. Currently have an el choco red and a lemon lime maranta on the way from them ❤
I knew they were tiny plugs but the first time I ordered I was a bit surprised. I think they'll do well as far as growing but definitely took a chance on the variegated polly. You're going to love both of those!! My el choco lovesss pon 😍
I've ordered twice (so far) from them & ordered starter plant plugs both times. Good experience on both orders. My only thing is they seem to really shrink wrap the plugs really tight to the point where you need to tear apart & possibly harm the tiny root plug. All plants doing fine though.
I have bought from The Green Escape before - Everything I've gotten (except I think a single full sized plant I bought) has been itty bitty. My alocasia dragon scale and alocasia silver dragon have both done well, but my poor sarian has been on the struggle bus for over a year, lol. And my florida ghost has not grown at all. Overall, my experience with them has been fairly mixed. I finally got the sarian into pon and it seems to be deciding it wants to live now, so we'll see how it goes! My preferred shop on Etsy is still Paper Crane - I live in PA and I know they ship from Oregon, but they still always come well wrapped and in fantastic shape, despite the long trip.
I think I will give paper crane ago next time, I almost ordered from them before. The only reason I ordered from TGE was for the variegated polly. I most likely won't order from them again :(
I have purchased a few plant from them but have been SUPER disappointed with my variegated plants from them. I also bought the V. Polly and a V. ZZ starter plug. The ZZ was totally green and with exception to one pink leaf, the Polly was all green too. There has been 0 variegation from either plant since. Definitely say something to them!
I'm excited for the Q&A! I was wondering when that video was going to come out. I'm not buying new plants right now. ALL my plants got root rot. I'm a new plant mom and an underwaterer so I think I rotted them all by underwatering them???😭😬😞 I figure I better figure out how to care for the plants I have before I get any more. Honestly, I don't truly know why they rotted, but that's my guess. Their all propagating in water right now. Well the one's that made it. Anyway, I have a big bag of Pon that I need to put to good use, but I've never used it before so I have some UA-cam homework to do to figure it out. 😊 Do I have to rinse the pon off before I use it? I have to figure this all out, and figure out what plants I have that have a chance in Pon... tfs Melissa❤️💚🖤
Oh no I’m so sorry! 😢 sending you love 💗 I hope they can back a comeback 🥹 Dry rot is definitely a thing. I’ve over and under watered lots of times especially starting out and I still do from time to time. It happens to all of us and it makes you learn so much. It happens more I think with the season change because watering needs are a little different and you’re trying to adjust everyone.
Thanks for doing The Green Escape unwrap in real time and sharing your timeline for rehabbing first in stratum before potting up in pon. I hate to add up what I've spent w/TGE in 2023 but can tell you I've had the same puzzled expression when I first set eyes on some of the plants they shipped: "I paid Whaaaat for this?!" I now much prefer to purchase plants in 4" pots or larger, esp. when it's Buyer's Choice. Looking forward to the followup on these 4 additions to your collection, Melissa!
Me again! I know you have long-range plans to offer props to the general public (Etsy?) but if there's any way you can broaden beyond Insta, that would be great ... for those of us who limit our socials. Thanx for considering!
Thank you! I'm working on a website - just slow to get it actually up and running. I haven't had much time to work on it lately and trying to do it all myself so hoping the next time I have plants ready it will be up and be easier for people to purchase from 😁
I have no doubt that your future will include plentiful variegation for that plant. It is a very lucky plant to live under your care. I will look forward to updates. Enjoyed sharing the debuts of your new plants. Thanks.
Wow, I can't believe that plant. I've ordered from them a lot, more than I would like to admit and have had more bad experiences than good. Their plugs a lot of times have no roots. Its like they just try to keep up with demand and have no standards on what they send out. Hopefully it grows and shows more color for you in the future!
If you are unsatisfied at all definitely contact them their customer service is amazing. A plug i got struggled its entire time and just slowly died , i messaged them only asking if theyd get any bigger sizes since mine died and they offered to replace it or refund me, it was about 2 months in my care. Yeah sometimes their plants are really small.
The sadness in your eyes, i feel u. Thats why youre my favorite to watch unboxing coz of your honesty. Hoping the variegation will show on the alocasia tho.
Sooooo cute! I have a few plants in my cart from them too. lol I can't wait to see how much variegation you end up getting on that baby. Ooooh the silver hoya krohniana is on my wishlist and in my cart too. ha! enjoy! Thanks for sharing Melissa. 💚
I feel like I’ve been a little disappointed by the size of the green escapes plugs, however, every one I have ever purchased has been a fast grower and a healthy plant in time. I’d say hang in there and give it a chance! So excited to watch it grow.
Hopefully the variegation surprises you! I bought a Thai con from green escape that looked like it has almost no variegation, now that it’s bigger it has the most beautiful variegation I’ve seen
Green Escape can be a wild card. I've received starters that are basically mature plants and some that shouldn't have been sold yet. I got a neon syngonium starter and a red heart philo in their black friday sale: the philo barely had roots while the syngonium was hulking out of its wrappings with mature leaves. They ARE great with customer service however and if you contact them with a problem they get back to you quickly and resolve is close behind. I think supply and demand is what they struggle with. If you want small and maybe a more "generic" (lets say classic, it sounds nicer!) less specialized plants they're great, but if you want more rare maybe not so much. Still, they do send healthy plants and I've never once had a pest issue. I'm sure you'll coax those babies into being gorgeous plants though. You always do!
The green escape and golden greenery escape I believe are the same company they use the same pictures, I’ve ordered when their plants were like 10-15$ but I always hesitate also when buying variegated
Love your choices!!! But thats quite a bit of yellow leaves on multiple plants and the variegation is soooo little on the Polly. And did they tell you the roots were barely there? I feel that it's a bit misleading if not. I hope the seller makes it right!
Yeah I definitely knew they would be small because of ordering from them before but the first time it was a surprise at actually how little they were. I’m not sure how long they actually sat being boxed up because my shipping label was printed for a while. Plus with the holiday sale they probably had more orders to fulfill. The yellowing does lead me to believe they were boxed up awhile. They do state they’re plugs but it does feel a little misleading as starter plants.
@@plantsbymelissa I’m really glad you did the unboxing on video!! I would totally reach out to them and ask for some replacements as it looks like you spent at least $100 even with the free cutting. Makes me sad for you that they all came in less than ideal conditions and that Polly 🤦♀️ I feel like there are too many sellers that know they can sell for profit off name alone and not condition. I’m sorry you had this experience!!
Thank you! I was going to see how the color came in on the polly but if it's reverted I'll reach out to them. I think my total was $96 which was a lot for these tiny plants!
@@plantsbymelissa agree! That it IS a lot for those tiny plants and the fact that you have to rehab them right away. I hope you get lots of variegation!!!
STRATUM TIP: Mix stratum with 20-25% perlite or pumice. It provides a little aeration around the roots and lots of humidity. It also stretches out the product making it last longer.
@@enchantedviolet Yeah, me, too--until I started seeing the same photos on other sellers/sites. I don't doubt that they mean well, but my experience with them has been hit or miss.
I hope your Variegated Alocasia does well! I just got mine from Seattle Plant Daddy for $50 as well. Arrived in fantastic condition. Recommend shopping there if you ever need a replacement.
Indeed, you did!! Lol I just finished watching the vid in its entirety. Makes me wanna place a new order 🤭 So sorry about the variegation, but hopefully that new leaf turns it around! ❤
@@vanessam.903 curious about exactly what made you want to buy more plants from the shop when these showed up with less than ideal roots/ yellowing leaves and a not-so-variegated Polly? Genuine question.
@@user-rd3gd7vm2l Hey there! That’s an excellent question! For me personally just watching Melissa unbox a plant delivery is enough to make me want to do the same. I’m getting excited just thinking about it! I am sad for her that the Hoyas roots weren’t that great and the Alocasia’s had a yellow leaf. However, to not buy my precious plants online based on this alone doesn’t make sense to me. It just happens sometimes. Hope this helps! ❤
If anyone can rehab them it is you!❤ Also..I absolutely love when you throw out a little profanity here and there when stuff happens..you should hear me at home!😳😂❤️
Heyyyy! I missed your videos. I honestly don't know whether its been that long or not😅. If i don't see your videos atleast twice a week i start noticing it😂. Im so sorry about V.polly hope it gives good variegation❤ Congrats on new plants
aw thank you so much! I don't like going more than 4 days without posting so I was starting to feel bad! I appreciate you for saying that and thank you for watching them long or short lol 🥰
I’ve had mixed reviews with TGE. My last order the plants were very dry and unhappy and the plugs had pests. I really think you should contact them sooner rather than later about your V Polly. That doesn’t look right. And they most likely won’t help you after a few days and I’m not sure what Etsy’s claim timeframe is, but I think it’s not long.
aw thank you! I was worried they would sell out so I had pull the trigger. I will definitely wait next time and order an exact plant for anything variegated :)
I had an inkling you were going to jump the gun and buy those last video! I saw that polly just a few minutes before you uploaded that wishlist video and almost bought it. But I fought against it with every fiber of my being until it got sold out... and I ended up buying a variegated bambino from a different shop instead! 💀 Etsy is a scary place. Sad to see you were underwhelmed with the specimen you got. I was so excited for you! Hope the next leaf is variegated! Can't wait for update videos.
im so glad you got some of your wishlist plants ❤ your last video convinced me to do the same!! i got a syngonium tri color that i am absolutely enamored with, and also a well-established philo micans trailing pot that i would like to prop and get on a moss pole like your micans pole! i dont have a ton of plants, but my collection is ever growing and im so excited to have some of my favs!
I got mealys from TGE. I saw them as soon as I opened the package. I reached out, and they said they would refund, but once I sent pictures, they backed out, said that none of their stock had pests, and wanted me to return everything. The plants are doing well enough, but the situation rubbed me the wrong way.
That's wild. I bought an alocasia watsonia about 3 weeks ago. I didn't see it anywhere except for the shop I was looking at. It just looks different. Unfortunately, buying from the Green Escape is a gamble. They are overpriced and they are really small or come with issues. I've gotten some good ones from them, but like I said, it's a gamble. I do love baby plants too!! 🪴❤ Super cute!
Yeah definitely rolling the dice for sure! I'm sorta on the fence ordering from them again. I wasn't too happy with the Polly. If it reverts I'll reach out!
Same here. I stopped buying from the Green Escape. The plants are so small, plugs and unstable. I now buy buyers' choices plants. The deals are not so many deals from these other companies offering "starter" plants.
How kind you are with your opinion on that alocasia with little to no variegation. I would be peeved (and I am for you). I am not sure I would be able to hold back some unlady-like comments. Especially after paying so much. I hope you are able to make the best of it and it becomes a stunner! 🤞🙃
Love unboxing video's! Not going to lie, i wouldn't be happy with that Polly, i love how you keep your cool though 😂 I can definitely learn from you 😊💖🪷
Thank you!! 😁 I was disappointed in it but I'll see how it goes with the variegation. I cut a clip out of me just sitting there in silence with a sad look on my face haha
$55 for that plant is crazy. Not even what you wanted. By what I read others say the same. Sad. what a disappointment. If anyone can turn it around you can.
Thank you! 🙏🏼 yeah I guess I’ll see how it does here. If it comes in with more variegation I think the price is good for that but I definitely knew the risk 🥲
yes their buy 3 get 1 free always gets me 😂 . I ordered a tc monstera mint from another etsy seller. my bday is 12.12 and it should be here next week ! I'm so nervous I had to go back and rewatch your deflasking vid lol
aww happy early bday!! Definitely a great present to yourself 🫶 TC is fun! I really enjoy the process and once you do it you'll realize how easy it is! Some plants can be risky with TC but you can get some more rare plants for cheaper costs!
They were hit or miss for me. Some of my plants were great, some were insanely small, rotten, not well rooted, or came with pests. The last and final thing I got from them was a seed grown clarinervium and a thai con. The tiniest thai con for $58. I found out about plantstory shortly after and imagine my surprise when I found that you could get established thais for that much.😅 I think I’m done with Green Escape for the foreseeable future. I did reach out about issues with my purchases and nothing was done, so I’d rather stick to a few other sellers who I know will always send a quality product.
I have completely mixed feelings about the Green Escape. I’ve found if I’m patient, I can find the same plant in a larger size for a better price - most of the time. For example, I bought a 1” pot of cerestis mirablis from them for $32.00. Two weeks later I found a fully mature one for $55. That said, I did but a maranta light veins from them today. It’s been on my wishlist since I saw yours! People are selling unrooted cuttings for $65 a pop so I’m happy to get it for a lot less than $40.
I love TGE!! I’ve ordered them a few times. I got a mint Polly from them last order and it was about the same size as yours with good variegation and I got my V. Frydek from them as well and after having it some time it has TOO much variegation lol she keeps putting out nearly all white leaves. So you really never know what you’ll get with variegation. Fingers crossed for you that you get some good color!!
My last order from them was a disappointment. I got 3 starters, (zebrina reticulata, a hoya and a homalomena) and one 4in orange marmalade. The box arrived damaged (to be expected), and when I opened it there was soil everywhere. The marm was only in a plastic sleeve with zero polyfill. Luckily it has made a comeback after melting its very damaged leaves. The hoya Heuschkeliana is doing well, but the homalomena didnt end up making it. And my reticulata isnt looking very reticulated 😥 I did end up getting a partial refund for the orange marm. I was not happy with the lack of care in packaging.
oh no that is the worst when there is soil everywhere! Glad they partially refunded you! I'm sorta on the not wanting to purchase from them again side right now after this order. If my polly isn't variegated I'll message them!
I ordered from them for the first time right after Black Friday and although I didn’t get any variegated plants, my staghorn was really tiny. Fingers crossed it does okay 😂
I like the baby plants. It's not so hard to acclimate them. I finally got a baby pink princess. And I'm kinda surprised that it looks like it might even have marbling.
I love stratum to propagate and rehab plants. They love it and usually come back for me! Amount of water doesn't matter too much - it will continue to wick up until the water is gone. I just try not to let it dry out all the way which can happen lol - so I water it to the top since it dries pretty quickly in my space!
I got that same plant from them. Zero variegation & it reverted right away. I think it was TC. I'd reach out to them. They refunded me after seeing my images of the plant. 50 is still a lot of money
Girl similar thing happened to me! I’ve always wanted a variegated Alocasia Frydeck so I ordered 2 from green escape two different times and they each had like no variegation they were about 70 bucks😩💔 so I have given up on my dream plant for now
This video was about more than just unboxing. I learned a lot. Quick Question Melissa. How often do i need to refil the fluval water. Could i add nutrients at some point? Would a very liquid fish/kelp solution work?
It has nutrients already! I keep mine pretty full with water because it tends to dry out quickly in my space - esp going in my cabinet. I have to top them off every 4-5ish days. It will look lighter in color when it goes all the way dry so I just continue to top mine off back to the top. I just use it for rooting and propagating - not for growing in long term!
If I got that variegated Polly I would be disappointed. You should contact them and ask to return it. I don’t think it will be very variegated even with high light, it doesn’t seem to have good genetics.
Hi Melissa. I love watching your plant videos, I find them so relaxing. I have a tiny philodendron micans that my sister picked up for me off Facebook. It is much smaller than I was expecting it to be and is currently potted in soil. Unfortunately it seemed to come with pests as well, I’m pretty sure they were thrips. I have checked all my other plants and they seem fine and I have treated this one and can’t see any more bugs on it. However it does have some leaf damage. Even the new leaf that hadn’t unfurled completely yet has some damage. I’m considering repotting into a different medium and wanted your thoughts on what’s best for a micans. Would pon be ok or is a new soil mix going to be better? Thank you for your time 😊
I was disappointed when opening my plant order today. My philodendron plowmanii came wet and soggy. I’m hoping it survives. It’s most likely due to the ground shipping and weather.
They just had it called a variegated alocasia polly starter. It's the only one I saw available when I ordered mine. I saw some photos that looked good from customers that sent them in on the reviews!
@@plantsbymelissamy review is on there lol I just posted it last week. I did get the mint one as well, I'm not so sure about that one tho, I'll have to wait until a new leaf comes out.
I just had my first order from the Green Escape and I was shocked and disappointed at how small the plants were. I actually ordered the same hoya lacunosa silver mint and philodendron tortum. I will not order from them again.
@plantsbymelissa Hello, Melissa, what is the material of the hoya plug,I am not familiar with it. Should I remove it and repot it? I've never seen this kind of plug. It's almost like rubber, I am concerned that I might damage whatever little roots there might be.
Thank you! All the leaves kept turning down away from the light. It was about 1000 fc so I'm thinking that it was too much. I actually spent about an hour and tied all the vines more upright to make them look better lol. I'll see how they do and adjust here :)
@@plantsbymelissa thanks for the info! I think my black velvet was getting too much light because the leaves were turning down away from the light too and I wondered if that’s what was going on.
You know I was wondering what kind of plug that was lol. Only one had it but never experienced that before! I had it running under water and gently pulled it apart. I think I may have pulled a root off but it should grow new ones pretty quickly in the stratum.
I was going to see how it goes with them. I don't mind rehabbing plants and I knew they would be small. Yellowing can happen in shipping but they probably had them boxed up for a while before they actually sent them out. I don't live that far from FL. My only real disappointment is the polly so hoping for some color. If it's reverted I'll message them. I keep the water high only because it tends to dry out fast for me in my space. If it's in my cabinet it can go all the way dry in 4-5 days.
Does the whole bag of fluval fit in that container or do you try to just pour part of the bag. I’m trying to figure out how to box it up for ease of use.
I have mixed feelings on the green escape. Most variety on Etsy for the cheapest prices, but those plugs are so small and fragile. Ive had 3 plants come in basically doa from them
Every. Single. Time. I've ordered from Green Escape, the plants are infested with mites. They've got to get a better system in place for pest management, sadly.

I most likely won't order from them again :(
I just ordered some plants from their shop! Thank you so much for the recommendation!
Hey melissa that plant you order from Green Escape was in my cart 😍😍😍😍🤣
😂🫶🏻
I haven't had much time to work on it lately and trying to do it all myself so hoping the next time I have plants ready it will be up and be easier for people to purchase from 😁
I love the four little babies you got...great choices! I hope they all do well for you🌿🍃🌱🌵😉
Thank you 🥹💗
I love the ‘shit’ comment😄 having plants requires making messes. I hope the poly grows some pink for you @plantsbymelissa xx
hehe thank you!!
I have no doubt that your future will include plentiful variegation for that plant. It is a very lucky plant to live under your care. I will look forward to updates. Enjoyed sharing the debuts of your new plants. Thanks.
Thank you! Hoping for some good color to come in! 🙏
Thank you! I filmed a little update so I’ll be sharing it soon! 😁
I hope the Poly has great color. I've had wonderful results with Green Escape.
Can’t wait for them to be pitted up. I love an unboxing.
If you are unsatisfied at all definitely contact them their customer service is amazing. A plug i got struggled its entire time and just slowly died , i messaged them only asking if theyd get any bigger sizes since mine died and they offered to replace it or refund me, it was about 2 months in my care. Yeah sometimes their plants are really small.
oh wow that's amazing especially being 2 months out, glad they did that for you!
Cute plants; hope they acclimate well. Look fwd to updates. Thanks for sharing Melissa!
Thank you!!
The sadness in your eyes, i feel u. Thats why youre my favorite to watch unboxing coz of your honesty. Hoping the variegation will show on the alocasia tho.
Thank you! 🙏
Sooooo cute! I have a few plants in my cart from them too. lol I can't wait to see how much variegation you end up getting on that baby. Ooooh the silver hoya krohniana is on my wishlist and in my cart too. ha! enjoy! Thanks for sharing Melissa. 💚
Thank you for watching!! Hoping for some color to grow in 💗
That Polly is looking . I would be mad getting this
🥲😅 Trying not to write it off just yet. It might surprise me!
I feel like I’ve been a little disappointed by the size of the green escapes plugs, however, every one I have ever purchased has been a fast grower and a healthy plant in time. I’d say hang in there and give it a chance! So excited to watch it grow.
Thank you! Hoping for some good growth to come in with it 🙏
Hopefully the variegation surprises you!
I’m sure you will work your magic and these plants will thrive! Hoping for the best for your new Polly 💚💚💚
Thank you so much Krista! Hoping for the best!!
STRATUM TIP:
Mix stratum with 20-25% perlite or pumice. It provides a little aeration around the roots and lots of humidity. It also stretches out the product making it last longer.
I tried mixing with perlite before and it kept molding on me, not sure why. I might have to try it again! 🙏
Their shop is so beautiful on Etsy. I have so many plants favorited. Love this content! 😊
Thank you! So many options! I might have to look again next time 😂
Their shop is beautiful, but be careful-I’ve noticed that they take photos from IG as well as other sellers.
@@emoo2342good to know. I thought they were using original photos!
So funny! I literally just received my Green Escape order delivered yesterday too 😌 love me some Hoyas!
Nice!! I might have gotten a hoya or two 🤪 Mine came yesterday but I waited to open it today so I could film it lol
Indeed, you did!! Lol I just finished watching the vid in its entirety. Makes me wanna place a new order 🤭
So sorry about the variegation, but hopefully that new leaf turns it around! ❤
@@vanessam.903 Thank you!! hehe the more the merrier! 😂
Haha same! When I’m by myself I do curse a lot 😂🤭 I don’t do it around others much though lol and thank you! 🙏🏼 it’ll be fun to watch them grow
@@plantsbymelissa they say that those who use profanity are a little smarter than those who do not! Sooo..😂❤️
haha 🫶
Yeah they do a buy three and get the fourth free. They do that all the time.
Ok so now to add that silver mint to my wishlist 😂 beautiful 😻 Hoya
I’ll bet you never thought you’d say you love pon.
Heyyyy! I missed your videos. I honestly don't know whether its been that long or not😅. If i don't see your videos atleast twice a week i start noticing it😂.
Im so sorry about V.polly hope it gives good variegation❤
Congrats on new plants
aw thank you so much!
I will tell them to send me anothe one
I love the green escape!
I love the green escape!!!!
I always order from green escape. I’ve had very good experiences with them.
Have been waiting for this video for a week since your other video!! 😂❤❤❤
absolutely love watching my planty ppl throw a curse word around every so often😂😂
hehe I let out a lot more off camera 😆🤭
You got the plant I wanted 😂😢 But happy for you and can’t wait for it to thrive for you
aw thank you!
Thank you so much! Congrats on your variegated bambino! Hoping I can get some color to come in on mine 🥲
im so glad you got some of your wishlist plants ❤ your last video convinced me to do the same!! i got a syngonium tri color that i am absolutely enamored with, and also a well-established philo micans trailing pot that i would like to prop and get on a moss pole like your micans pole! i dont have a ton of plants, but my collection is ever growing and im so excited to have some of my favs!
Yay! Thank you! Those are some good plants I love micans! Definitely one of my favs and it look pretty trailing and climbing and loves both!
😂😂😂😂😂❤🙂👏 I’m glad you bought them!
I got mealys from TGE. I saw them as soon as I opened the package. I reached out, and they said they would refund, but once I sent pictures, they backed out, said that none of their stock had pests, and wanted me to return everything. The plants are doing well enough, but the situation rubbed me the wrong way.
oh no what?! I would be so disappointed in that especially if they told you they would refund you! I'm sorry 😢
I have plants from green escape. They're good. Got some little deiffenbachias and they are doing fine so far
Wow, I bought 4 plants from the Green Escape. They really know what we like, and the plants are so tiny.
Same here. I stopped buying from the Green Escape. The plants are so small, plugs and unstable.
I now buy buyers' choices plants.
The deals are not so many deals from these other companies offering "starter" plants.
yeah after this shipment I will probably not order again. It's not really worth the cost/time if you have to rehab them from the beginning.
How kind you are with your opinion on that alocasia with little to no variegation. I would be peeved (and I am for you). I am not sure I would be able to hold back some unlady-like comments. Especially after paying so much. I hope you are able to make the best of it and it becomes a stunner! 🤞🙃
Thank you! I just posted an update on them and I ordered a couple more plants lol
I would definitely contact them about that var Polly. Noooo way.
@@plantsbymelissa Haha, yup, that would have been me too 😆
$55 for that plant is crazy.
1000x percent agree
How much did you pay for the rehabs!??
Hi Melissa,That’s too bad it doesn’t look the best…but you are really good at getting everything to grow back! Good luck. ❤
yes their buy 3 get 1 free always gets me 😂 .
It’s OK to be disappointed. I would be, too. ❤
They were hit or miss for me. Some of my plants were great, some were insanely small, rotten, not well rooted, or came with pests.
The last and final thing I got from them was a seed grown clarinervium and a thai con. The tiniest thai con for $58. I found out about plantstory shortly after and imagine my surprise when I found that you could get established thais for that much.😅
I think I’m done with Green Escape for the foreseeable future.
Thank you!! Yes exactly! 🤗 oooh now I need to look out for a mint 😂
What is the makeup of your stratum? It sounds like it’s quite coarse. And your plants behind you are amazing!!!
I just got my order from them too! Lol
I ordered from them for the first time right after Black Friday and although I didn’t get any variegated plants, my staghorn was really tiny. Fingers crossed it does okay 😂
Aw good luck with yours! 🫶🏻🪴
I like the baby plants. It's not so hard to acclimate them. I finally got a baby pink princess. And I'm kinda surprised that it looks like it might even have marbling.
oh that's nice!! Hoping you get some good color on yours to grow in!
Happy BIRTHDAY TO YOU AND MINE IS THE 20th OF JANUARY
Thats so cool of how you use stratum to help rehab them! In the cups of stratum, how much water do you pour in the cup so the stratum can stay wet?
I love stratum to propagate and rehab plants. They love it and usually come back for me! Amount of water doesn't matter too much - it will continue to wick up until the water is gone. I just try not to let it dry out all the way which can happen lol - so I water it to the top since it dries pretty quickly in my space!
Thank you!!!@@plantsbymelissa
I got that same plant from them. Zero variegation & it reverted right away. I think it was TC. I'd reach out to them. They refunded me after seeing my images of the plant. 50 is still a lot of money
oh no! Sorry it reverted! Glad they refunded you 🙏 I keep hearing their customer service is great so I'll reach out if it grows all green.
@@plantsbymelissa they are super helpful. I've never had a negative encounter with them. Ordered about 4 times.
Oh, I’d be SO disappointed with the state of the variegated Alocasia. Hopefully the next leaf shows you some progress.
Thank you! 🥲 Hoping so too!
Girl similar thing happened to me! I’ve always wanted a variegated Alocasia Frydeck so I ordered 2 from green escape two different times and they each had like no variegation they were about 70 bucks😩💔 so I have given up on my dream plant for now
oh no I'm so sorry that happened 🥺
I bought variegated Homalomena and mint twice from them. Both times they started variegated and matured reverted. Major mixed feelings
@@plantsbymelissa thanx a Mil
Thank you for your time 😊
55??? You should contact Green Scape and tell them you're not happy with polly. Tell them they got yellow leaves.
I was disappointed when opening my plant order today. My philodendron plowmanii came wet and soggy. I’m hoping it survives. It’s most likely due to the ground shipping and weather.
I'm so sorry! A lot of people in the comments say their customer service is amazing if you wanted to reach out to them 🙏
Which variegated polly did you get? Mine came petty variegated. It was pink and green.
That's good!! happy you got a nice replacement one!
I just had my first order from the Green Escape and I was shocked and disappointed at how small the plants were. I actually ordered the same hoya lacunosa silver mint and philodendron tortum. I will not order from them again.
That was my reaction the first time. Definitely small plugs! After this order I received I may not repurchase from them 😅
@plantsbymelissa Hello, Melissa, what is the material of the hoya plug,I am not familiar with it. Should I remove it and repot it? I've never seen this kind of plug. It's almost like rubber, I am concerned that I might damage whatever little roots there might be.
Not Melissa dropping S-bombs on camera XD
It got me too! 😂😂🤗
haha oops! I can definitely let some out but I try not to on camera lol
@@plantsbymelissa it was perfectly lovely! 🥰
Sonia I think
Your frydeks look wonderful! How could you tell the variegated ones were getting too much light?
So they usually do buy 3 plants get 1 $15 plant free with their code
How do you deal with the sponge plug? I always want to switch to another substate but getting the sponge off without damage seems impossible 😭
You know I was wondering what kind of plug that was lol. Only one had it but never experienced that before! I had it running under water and gently pulled it apart. I think I may have pulled a root off but it should grow new ones pretty quickly in the stratum.
Death plug removal is the worst
♥️🎄
I ordered from them before Black Friday and only 2 out of the 4 i got is still with me today and growing and barely😢
I hope you contacted them about the poly Hoya for money back. Do you keep the water high in the stratum when rooting?
I buy the bigger bag so I have more but I can only fit a small amount in this container at once. I need to buy bigger containers lol
I have mixed feelings on the green escape. Most variety on Etsy for the cheapest prices, but those plugs are so small and fragile. Ive had 3 plants come in basically doa from them
yeah I keep seeing mixed reviews :( 🥲
Every. Single. Time. I've ordered from Green Escape, the plants are infested with mites. They've got to get a better system in place for pest management, sadly.
Oh no 😟
I don’t buy anything variegated grower’s choice anymore because of the same reason. I need to know exactly what I’m getting
I didn’t listen to myself 😂 maybe it will surprise me but I won’t do it again 😬
