There he is! We're getting the word out little by little... I know it isn't your goal but I want Capcom to eventually pick this up as it has the best chance of becoming the new definitive version of SF2.
Hey man NL is amazing, I had a question though, what made you decide to base it off the SF2X/T instead of say, Hyper SF2? Wouldn't the latter give you even more freedom?
Imagine if modern fighting games let you pick specific patches for characters. That would be jank as hell, but it would be interesting seeing every character at their most powerful.
Ultra Street Fighter 4 has this and it's so ridiculously cool Especially with Omega mode where they just gave every character a separate version with crazy ass changes, like Ken's aimable kick Hadouken
"There's enough sequels to make a sequel collection" I get what you're saying, but that's essentially what Capcom does Every time there's a Street Fighter collection it's just two games and 18 versions of SF2
@@markula_4040 The World Warrior, Championship Edition, Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super: The New Challengers, Super Turbo, and the three mentioned in the video, HD Remix, Hyper and Ultra. There's also numerous ports that aren't actually ports, but the game remade to fit inferior hardware, like ports to old PCs, etc (There's also that famous "Neo Geo conversation", the PS1 version, famous for being Dark Syde Phil's highest placement in any tournament) "18 versions of SF2" is hyperbole for the sake of emphasis, but Capcom will always release collections with 3 or 4 versions of SF2, when most people only care about Super Turbo
@@apinkdslite1833 Indeed, you're right, big dyslexia moment (I don't have dyslexia). I read that comment 3 times and only noticed it when you pointed it out. And 9 people made the same mistake I did, apparently. There actually is a collection with _exactly_ 5 versions of SF2, which is the 30th Anniversary Collection. But it also has a bunch of other SF games, so my argument doesn't stand. Other collections are specifically designed to be Street Fighter 2 collections, and even then they have like, 3 versions at max, so there's a lot of nuance there that doesn't really help me either. So I concede, as to die on this hill I'd have to move the goalpost millions of times, from 18 to 5 to 3 or maybe 2. So I'd rather admit defeat.
Thank you! That's the goal I set out to accomplish when putting out a video. This genre has a lot more to appreciate than just the competitive side of things, and there is so much experimentation, weirdness, and just generally cool ideas that are overlooked.
Hearing about turbo revival reminded me, the GBA port of Alpha 3 is generally pretty faithful, except one thing I never see anyone say about it is that you can chain normals together
It's also easier to throw opponent in that version cause of the limited buttons, I remember having trouble trying to throw opponent in all the other version with the only version that I could pull it off being the PS1 port since that one had the buttons closer to each other so it makes it easier for me to use the same punch and kick from it in able to get a throw to work.
Ryu, Akuma, and Ken stages had that SFIII vibe, Guile and M. Bison stages are actually brand new whereas Zangief, Chun-Li, and Balrog stages all got demake of their Alpha versions. The rest are unchange though I kinda wish they gave Vega his CPS-1 stage as his CPS-2 stage doesn't allow him to climb the cage for some reason and that always rub me the wrong way as that makes Vega feels less like Vega. This is why I tend to prefer the CPS1 SFII games over the Super SFII games due to that.
I really wish HD Remix would get a rerelease for modern consoles. At least PC/Ps4/Xbox. But clearly it would work fine on the switch too. Do it!! Just because some people didn't like SIrlin's design decisions doesn't make it a bad game. And i think his website really documents why he made certain changes in a very transparent way.
This generation (PS3/X360) to this day remains the most exclusive-locked, with so many games never released outside of it, both digital only stuff and disc, though recently we got a bunch of unexpected ports from KOEI and re-releases of Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption... Like, PS4 games usually have at least either a PC port or PS5 release but PS3 is like a limbo with Tekken 6 and TTT2, unique versions of DR and TTT1, a bunch of arcade ports and updated that were only on X360 and a few exclusives like MGS4 otherwise limited to not very good emulation.
@@doritto4095 Yep I’m 100% serious, with the new Stun “balance” nerf they did to Akuma he and other evil shotos get stunned almost Immediately but since this is usf2 Akuma does not have his instant Stun recovery either, Violent Ken is the only character who genuinely has an answer to the air fireballs with his dash, his shoryuken beats practically everything. He’s also the only character you HAVE to block low when he’s doing super.
Dang, I didn't know about that GBA port, looks impressive! One thing about why the HD sprites look jank, other than the artstyle being kinda odd, the individual frames don't respect the position of the previous ones, like a leg positioned slightly to the right in one frame, then slightly to the left in the other, which is why it looks "jank", on top of that, it completely lacks any kind of follow through animation (like clothes or hair bouncing up and down). I've been meaning to make a video explaining exactly what I mean... maybe some day.
HYPER SF2 is not simply a sequel. The opportunity to look at how far the SF2 games truly came to balance the characters is amazing. Basically, I'm saying World Warrior Guile is the most OP character in the history of Street Fighter.
The weird stuff that was in the US version of Revival (Akuma freeze glitch and wrong quotes) wasn't in the JP version. I was around for all the HD Remix wtf-ery and one of the big things was that people were weirded out about Akuma being playable online since he was so broken in ST. I remember they made his stun value lower so he gets dizzy quicker, got rid of his "unblockable" hurricane kick (which became a dipswitch), and changed the trajectory of his air fireball. Another thing was that it was fairly widespread that HDR was based on the Dreamcast version of ST, which is still considered the best version today. Like you noted, the reactions for the game were all over the place. HDR can be played physically on 360; in fact, the collection it's in, Capcom Digital Collection, just celebrated its tenth anniversary. It also features Final Fight Double Impact, which is much better on 360 since it doesn't have DRM like the PS3 version. Ultra SF2 recently faced a huge price spike since it was delisted from the eShop last year. It went up to between $75-100. Capcom put it back up late last year with an instant 50% discount for about a week or so. Since then, the price on the physical version has come down. If I had to guess, Capcom either had to renew the license to use the Udon artwork, OR it may have had to do with the entire SF artbook (SF Supremacy) that was in there.
Someone just told me the European version of Revival is fixed too! Sirlin says starting with the Dreamcast port was the most optimal base, so I'll just take his word on it. Either way it was definitely a point used from detractors of HDR mostly. 😅 I had no idea Ultra was taken off the eShop at some point, super weird. There have been rumors lately that it showed up on a SteamDB page recently, so we'll see what the future holds...
@@GuileWinQuote the DC port of ST is arcade perfect if the correct dipswitches are set. Without those, it's wonky. A couple characters have reversal supers for example 😂 It'd be great to see USF be ported to stuff other than Switch
@@GuileWinQuote They used the Dreamcast port because it was an existing C (programming language) rewrite of ST, so vastly more practical to use for doing a version where you're going to make so many changes to the game. If you used the actual original game... well you would basically have to either rewrite it (which the Dreamcast version already was that), or romhack the original and run it on CPS2 emulation. And considering the "upgraded" graphics and music, doing it as a true romhack would be impossible (you could put some kind of interpreter layer on top of the original at best).
HD Remix gets so much unwarranted hate it's ridiculous. Most of the criticism stems from either the new art style or the balance changes without ever pointing out that you can still play the classic version of ST with all of the original stuff intact. HDR was awesome and had a godlike soundtrack and I wish they re- released it.
But the new graphics ARE ugly to some. So why would they buy a newer version of a game and then use the old graphics when you can just easily play the old games with those graphics and save some money? The hate isn't ridiculous although maybe your narrow mind for just dismissing the valid criticism is.
@@markula_4040 the graphics are skindeep what I cared about was the balance, maybe youre projecting your own superficiality because by every metric this game is better balanced than ST
Anniversary Edition is my favorite personally. I was pumped to see coming in the new Capcom FG Collection. Hopefully we can get a new version of the Anniversary Edition adding HD Remix and Ultra with their OSTs (especially HD REMIX's) and features. That'll be ultimate package of SFII, it'll be nutty as hell but I'm down to see it lol.
I love USF2 or any Super Turbo version out there. They show what a true masterpiece it is. If I'm not mistaken, USF2 was paid by Nintendo who wanted a SF2 game on the new platform. I'm guessing it's a nod to how SNES was the home of SF2 for a long while. Another tidbit is that in the Japanese version of USF2, you could get a DLC for song from the SF2 anime that would play on Buddy Battle if you had Ryu and Ken vs Dictator. Nice touch.
SF Anniversary WAS basically a sequel collection for both Alpha and SF 2. It's crazy (but absolutely NOT unheard of) to have so many variations of JUST Super Turbo itself. They didn't even have Super Turbo at my arcade.
I’d really like for you to cover one-off fighting game franchises someday. For example, Waku Waku 7. It was planned to get a sequel, but it never truly got past the early stages. All there was was concept art. So, it’s left as a (genuinely amazing, and is in my top 3 fighting games) one off fighting game that consists of the arcade version, then console port, and that’s all. I love little creative one-off oddities like this, so I’d love to see them covered in your style someday.
@@no64256 If I recall correctly yes, but it wasn’t a direct sequel, nor has the branding been used for anything ever than the arcade archives rereleases, so I consider it a one-off.
Thanks for at least touching on why HD Remix stopped being played that competitively. I was too young or out of the loop to understand why it died out and nobody ever talks about it anymore. I just thought it was a fun revision of SSF2T
Where did Violent Ken come from the 90s Anime SF2 Movie or the SNK vs Capcom Chaos ? Don't know if his supposed be Brain Washed Anime Ken or a Evil Ryu knock off in the games his just added in for fun ...?
cut my teeth on Hyper Fighting back in the day, with it being the first SF game I ever played it took me a long time to cotton on to the differences between the different versions of the characters you could select
I am glad the UA-cam algorithm suggested this video. As a life long player of street fighter 2 (since it's release) I really thoroughly enjoyed this video. You explained everything clearly and I learnt a few things I never knew before. Also, I never had a problem with the HD remix myself, I like it for what it is, but SSFT2 is the king 😁 Congrats by the way, you got a sub!
Hyper is the first version of SFII I ever played, which kinda makes the later remakes and rereleases look worse by comparison (kinda like how no one bought Darkstalkers Resurrection because Darkstalkers Chronicles: The Chaos Tower had more content).
The issue with Hyper SFII is that same issue that plague all 2D MK arcade games. It's fun if you play it with another human players cause if you play that game single player all the opponents will be in their Super Turbo style and unless you play that style too to balance things out you'll be at a disadvantage. Unless you're really good with the older versions of the character you might have a good time with it though.
Best thing about HDR was the netcode. Online battles were quite solid, and made SFIV online play feel janky, especially in the early months (or after SSFIV). I still fire up my PS3 and play from time to time
There's also a neat Easter egg that you missed in Ultra SFII: If you select Ryu and cancel on color 1, select Ken, cancel on colour 9, and then do same with Sagat on colour 8 and Dictator on colour 7, and then press L and R at the same time on Random Select, you'll be able to play as Shin Akuma/Gouki! (And after you do that once, he'll show up on the Colour Editor too)- And yes, he's super busted too, he straight up has combos that regular Gouki can't replicate due to the double fireballs and the differences in some variants of Go Shoryuken and Tatsumaki Zankukyaku.
@@GuileWinQuote should try *Fatal Fury* on the Game Gear... I try it on my emulator got to be 1 of the smoothest gameplay for a portable Fighter it definitely none Wonkey
Final Challengers is rough, of all the years playing various SF games this is the hardest to make raging demon to come out. But the evil Shodo do add a fun mix. At this point they should just make a “Legacy” sf2 type game, with every SF character ever made in a HD remix style. Why not?!?!?
My classmate in art class did ken, ryu, An akuma. He said he didn't know who they were. How the heck you not know who they Are and you drew them? That was beyond belief right there.
Subscribing to your channel was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Your videos are extremely in-depth, I love your knowledge on the games and how you graze upon some very important details that might be quite minor (or just unimportant) for casual players. Excellent video! I do have a tiny request. Is there any way you could talk about either of these games? A) Virtual Hiryū No Ken B) Vs. Both of them are PS1 fighting games and notoriously obscure, more so the former rather than the latter. I think they could use some of your love and expertise, and that you'd enjoy them (especially the first one).
Thank you for your kind words and support 🙇🏼♂️ I mentioned VS super briefly in my Slap Happy Rhythm Busters review but I totally need to take a deeper look into a lot of the nice 3D ps1 fighters cause there's tons of cool stuff. I'm not too familiar with Virtual Hiryu, I've only seen random combo clips on Twitter but this has definitely peeked my interest and I'll be trying it out soon!
as a filthy casual, i had no idea all these different versions existed or were actually different… i just assumed every version was just a port that scaled animations/sprites/inputs for hardware/controller interface limitations and playing any version was basically the same
Turbo Revival was my JAM back in the day with my tribal design SP. Glad it got a fair shake here. Even now I play it on an emulator when I should be paying attention to lectures. It keeps me distracted just enough to focus.
Ken's stage is awesome, M. Bison's stage REALLY fits the story and character, in my opinion. It would be even better if every one of the four kings had a stage set in the base, you could even give Vega a fence for his, and it's like every fight you walk deeper into the lair until....BISON!!!(DUN, DUN, DUN!) BUT MY MAN GUILE!!😂🤣 I guess it's more funny to me cuz my mom was in the Air Force and I grew up around these things, so I know, even to show off with a Harrier (which ostensibly this is), you NEVER EVER EVER get that close to rocks or people. Like, what are you doing with that 150 million dollar piece of equipment, son?! Yes let's fly it extremely close to a rocky bridge that our likely commander is fighting on. These are GOOD decisions. I like to think about a cheap, cheater alternate version of Guile telling his opponent, "What, oh the jet? Yeah, it's part of my super move."😂🤣
Hey my dude, nice vid as usual! Seriously I mean it, you’ve become one of my top 3 channels. If I may suggest a game/franchise that I’d love to see you cover. Would you kindly make a video about The Last Blade Duology?
Thank you!! It's definitely something I'd like to talk about. It's presentation and connection to Guilty Gear deserve to be explored regardless of how good the game play is!
SSF4 on the 3DS in 2011 was my first fighting game ever and I always hated fighting against its one button special moves that ignored charge times, but holy shit I didn’t know Turbo Revival had them too. The lore runs deep
I had Turbo Revival years ago and I sank some time into it. It was pretty damn cool to have a version of Street Fighter II that I could take with me that did not feel gimped outside of the smaller amount of buttons on the GBA.
Or just lose one match then Akuma will never appear ever again. The dude will only appear if you kept on winning before facing M. Bison, become a loser once and he'll never bother you. If you don't want to lose just get the Japanese version and you can fight him. Oddly enough you fight him at M. Bison's stage and not at his own stage, the memorable cutscene where he would appeared to kill M. Bison with the Shun Goku Satsu from the original Super Turbo was also cut even though Akuma in this game could fully perform the Shun Goku Satsu during a match.
Imagine a Hyper SF2 Re-release with the addition of stuff from the other 3 games. Obviosuly the new Character versions with there balance and mechanics but also The colour editor, modes, HD sprites and stages ect.
In the Japanese version of Super Turbo Revival, the Akuma Battle glitch is fix. Also the GBA version of Super Turbo is the first version of Super Turbo where you can finally play as Shin Akuma.
Violent Ken's first appearance in a game was Street Fighter Zero 3, well kinda I guess you could call him a prototype of violent Ken as he doesn't have the visual design we now associate with the character established with SVC Chaos from the movie.
Ah yes.... HD Remix. So many years of joy. My gateway into Tournaments. :) If I recall correctly, HDR was one of the first games to get Microsoft to increase the Size limit of the XBLA games. My memory is rusty, but I think the XBLA Size limit Cap before for XBLA games was like 150MB (Around 50MB when XBLA first started off!). HDR came in at about 367MB. So Microsoft gave Capcom some exceptions for HDR's download size. Sirlin wanted to add the Classic Backgrounds but Capcom said no. I can only guess it was due to HDR already blowing past the size limit Microsoft allowed. A nice little Guiness World Record sort of deal is HDR was the first fighting game on consoles to add easy one button mapping for the Punch and Kick buttons on Arcade Sticks/Controllers.
It sounds like Ono on USF2 did basically everything that the fan base was giving Sirlin shit for except he didn't even try to balance the game. But yeah Dave Sirlin is the one with no respect for old Super Turbo lol.
Sirlin's gained a collection of enemies in the FGC for not taking criticism of his design ideas very well. It's not a good look when he calls criticism "propaganda" and stuff. Though I don't think he's a bad person like a lot of people seem to believe. It does mean people like to rag on him though. From what I understand, Ono is a pretty divisive figure too, and a lot of people seem to consider his name synonymous with the negative parts of SFV and MVCI. So it's not like he's escaped criticism.
Super glad to've found this vid because I genuinely did not know about the huge balancing issues that plagued hd remix, I thought it was literally just sf2 st with different art. Now I sorta get why people still stick with super turbo.
I like the game boy advanced version of Street fighter 2 turbo because I think is actually a pretty good version actually heck the artwork for the game was done by the same guy who did the yard for the rival schools series so yeah.
Yeap the artworks are very nice, the only disappointment is that there are not post-match artworks where it show the defeated opponent like in the older games. Those were always hilarious to see and were heavily missing from Super Turbo Revival. Would be nice to see what Akuma look like in his defeated state.
Hey GWQ! I loved this video, especially talkin about USF2. The thing is, back then when the game was released, Capcom said they would release it on other platforms if it was received well. But since it wasn't in some parts, it just stayed a switch exclusive. It does suck, but maybe HD remix will come back in some kind of other Capcom Collection someday.
I would also like to add that the weird gba sf2 has a bunch of cut content that it promised on the back of it's box. As a kid I got this game and thought it sounded awesome because the box says it has a tag mode and team battle and shit but it just didn't. It's the only game I've ever bought that just blatantly lied about what content it has. I never see people mention this but it's always stuck with me because I beat everything in the game hoping I would unlock said modes and yeah there's just nothing there.
The actual game name Violent Ken appeared was called SVC Chaos: SNK vs Capcom and his character in Ultra is a mixture of that character plus adding the whole Bison brainwashing, though yeah that was clearly inspired by the movie. But yeah I found the information in this video to be very accurate. This June, Hyper would see a re-release as part of Capcom's Fighting Collection on all major platforms, but no HD Remix or Ultra, but maybe one day we might see those along with Revival on some kind of compilation in the future. It is an interesting idea to make a compilation of sequels to a sequel that was intended to be the ultimate version of that game. Knowing Capcom they 'may' see this as an opportunity to make more money from their beloved Street Fighter series, who knows?
HD Remix is the best version of SF2. My only criticism is, as a Chun main, I hate that she didn't get any real buffs, arguably just nerfs. USF2 was close to being good, but playing as Chun is even harder there.
Adding a neutral grab tech to USF2 actually screws up the balance a ton because zoners were generally already the strongest characters (huge chip, lack of tripguard and fast proj recovery), and now you don't even have a scary grab threat when you finally manage to get in. Makes a match-up like O. Honda or Cammy vs Ryu/Deejay even worse than before.
I love the mention of New Legacy! It is a hidden gem that is constantly being updated based on feedback, and provides subtle balance changes that the ST community approves of. It is also the ONLY version of SF2 that has a version of Akuma that is ACTUALLY balanced! I really feel with more exposure, Capcom picking it up, and it being placed on Arcade cabs in Japan this could easily become the definitive version of SF2. If you haven't checked it out it is worth your time.
Ultra street fighter 2 the new challengers was actually surprisingly enough what got me into fighting games. California was on fire and I had to go visit a friend to escape a fire in my area, and all I had was my switch. So I had a couple brews and spent all week playing arcade and online street fighter on my switch. And I pretty much fell in love with fighting games since then.
@@dnkakusei I’ve dabbled a little bit in everything. I’d like to get into mvc2 and cvs2 more but I don’t have much time to find a competitive scene. As far as fightcade goes tho, my mainstays are Third Strike and Kof98. Those are the ones I’m actually good at. Even if I want to branch out into everything (guilty gear xx accent core, usf4, Tekken 7), you can only really seriously play a couple games at a time or you start forgetting important matchup knowledge.
The real reasons why Capcom has so many editions to SFII other than the fact that they rushed through development: There are no extra options and hidden codes at the player select of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, such as "Unlock All Bosses" and "Select Game Speed".
The fact that there's enough ST sequels to make it its own collection is mind boggling but rather have an Alpha collection featuring the best home ports of the alpha games AND Hyper SF Alpha online with rollback
This video was really great! I think I learned a lot about the _Super Turbo_ "sequels." I'd love to see / hear an in-depth analysis of the console ports of _Super Turbo_ from you, as well as the console _Street Fighter: The Movie_ game - which was basically _Super Turbo_ with two new characters and photographic… uh… graphics.
Maybe one day I'll have to tackle the ports ... It's a daunting task 😅 SFtM:RBoF will definitely get a video some day. I love the arcade and home port!
Well, I specifically mention the home version because it's, as I said, just a fancy, "slightly different" version of _Super Turbo._ The arcade version, however… I feel like the designers _knew_ they couldn't top _Super Turbo_ or _Mortal Kombat,_ so they just made it as ridiculously fun and broken as possible. And I freaking *adore* it for that reason. ♥
I was actually at Texas Showdown when they first showed it off at a tournament! I felt like it didn't fit this video, because it's just adding something from New Challengers into Super Turbo, but it's super cool and definitely something I'd like to talk about one day. The CPS2 hacking scene is getting crazy!
Because Sony And Microsoft didn't want to pay for the budget of the large space of the game at the time so CAPCAM cheap on the art design I'm more disappointed they never drew the car crashing stage for HD Remix so today we can enjoy it in Ultra
Completely unrelated but have you guys seen High Score Girl? The show got tons of permission from Capcom, SNK, and many more to show off their games from the early 90s onward, I didn't expect to realize enjoy it

It feels like we’re do a new Street Fighter 2 sometime soon. Capcom released Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers like right before we started seeing these games like Octopath Traveler, The Last Night, and that Backbone game that were doing new interesting things with lighting sprites, and 2D background layers in 3D environments. It’d be cool to see a Street Fighter 2 that looked something like that The Last Night trailer. Would also be cool if they did something like get some Capcom artist like Daigo Ikeno, had him do all the art, and then animate it like Vanillaware does so you could have a Street Fighter 2 with 2D art that was of the fidelity of games like Dragon’s Crown and 13 Sentinels. It would be interesting to see some Street Fighter 2 remake do the head swap thing Art of Fighting does, so the battle damage portraits were actually something you saw during fights.
tbh, STRev and STHDRemix are kinda neat when played with their extra modes, not as good as it's original, but are close enough to ST but are a whole new thing when doing their unique things rather than just... More ST edit : btw, favorite video, so fun looking at these extra versions of the best cult classics :)
I think the reason why evil ryu and violent ken never got banned in ranked matches in USF2TFC is because since they are glass cannon, you can defeat them pretty easily if you know what to do.
As an Ultra SF2 owner, my main gripes are Violent Ken looking like an abomination compared to his SvC Chaos incarnation (I may have a bias towards that game), lacking not only his kickass voicelines and a bunch of animations, but his Rasetsukyaku teleport looking like a powerpoint transition and the once stunning Shinbu Messatsu literally becoming Hissho Buraiken (I wish I were kidding). That and the fact that 30th collection came out after with half the library being SF2 for another 50 bucks made me feel robbed

@@redskeleton8504 the balance ptches seem to be completely different, tho
@@VOAN Rebalance in the sense that it's ST mechanics with HDR graphics, but also they throw in throw breaks without any consideration for ST balance.
Hearing about turbo revival reminded me, the GBA port of Alpha 3 is generally pretty faithful, except one thing I never see anyone say about it is that you can chain normals together
It's also easier to throw opponent in that version cause of the limited buttons, I remember having trouble trying to throw opponent in all the other version with the only version that I could pull it off being the PS1 port since that one had the buttons closer to each other so it makes it easier for me to use the same punch and kick from it in able to get a throw to work.
babe, it's time to be a family man and watch the new GuileWinQuote video!
The GBA version feels like a fever dream. I vaguely remembered those new stages
@@VOAN To be fair it was kinda necessary for balance
I really wish HD Remix would get a rerelease for modern consoles. At least PC/Ps4/Xbox. But clearly it would work fine on the switch too. Do it!! Just because some people didn't like SIrlin's design decisions doesn't make it a bad game. And i think his website really documents why he made certain changes in a very transparent way.
I know!!! Idk why Puzzle Fighter HD Remix works for XBox Backwards Compatibility and not HD Remix 😭
Everybody gangsta till I pull out the pocket Akuma for those filthy violent ken players!!!!
Violent Ken beats Akuma in USF2 lol 😭
@@Had0k3n2X wait really?
@@doritto4095 Yep I’m 100% serious, with the new Stun “balance” nerf they did to Akuma he and other evil shotos get stunned almost Immediately but since this is usf2 Akuma does not have his instant Stun recovery either, Violent Ken is the only character who genuinely has an answer to the air fireballs with his dash, his shoryuken beats practically everything. He’s also the only character you HAVE to block low when he’s doing super.
@@Had0k3n2X ah ok ok well hope bout evil Ryu can Akuma beat him?
I think Evil Ryu might be a little bit stronger since he has newer command Normals.
I've been meaning to make a video explaining exactly what I mean... maybe some day.
wait, didn't they just rotoscope/redraw on top of the original frames?
The issue is it was done by Udon artists who most are... not great.
@@eduardoalvarez2497 they did do that, they just did a terrible job
HYPER SF2 is not simply a sequel. The opportunity to look at how far the SF2 games truly came to balance the characters is amazing. Basically, I'm saying World Warrior Guile is the most OP character in the history of Street Fighter.
HYPER SFII feels more like a dream-crossover game than a sequel.
Kinda like the MK Trilogy of Street Fighter II.
Champion Edition M.Bison comes close. That Psycho Crusher is total bullshit.
I had no idea Ultra was taken off the eShop at some point, super weird. There have been rumors lately that it showed up on a SteamDB page recently, so we'll see what the future holds...
@@GuileWinQuote the DC port of ST is arcade perfect if the correct dipswitches are set. Without those, it's wonky. A couple characters have reversal supers for example 😂
It'd be great to see USF be ported to stuff other than Switch
@@GuileWinQuote They used the Dreamcast port because it was an existing C (programming language) rewrite of ST, so vastly more practical to use for doing a version where you're going to make so many changes to the game. If you used the actual original game... well you would basically have to either rewrite it (which the Dreamcast version already was that), or romhack the original and run it on CPS2 emulation. And considering the "upgraded" graphics and music, doing it as a true romhack would be impossible (you could put some kind of interpreter layer on top of the original at best).
USF2 isn't delisted in the eShop. I recently checked it out and it's even on sale for $20 upon writing this :)
Genuinely one of my favorite UA-cam channels, every video is a banger
Thank you for watching 🙇🏼♂️🙇🏼♂️🙇🏼♂️
I hope to continue to entertain!!
They complain about balance yet low tier zangief won evo thanks to the player snakeyes. I don't get the hate either
But the new graphics ARE ugly to some. So why would they buy a newer version of a game and then use the old graphics when you can just easily play the old games with those graphics and save some money? The hate isn't ridiculous although maybe your narrow mind for just dismissing the valid criticism is.
@@markula_4040 Looks like we found the rose tinted nostalgia glasses guy, boys.
@@markula_4040 the graphics are skindeep what I cared about was the balance, maybe youre projecting your own superficiality because by every metric this game is better balanced than ST

HD Remix on Steam with the pallete editor and an easy to use rebalancing tool for tournament organizers to play with would live forever imo.
Wow I never even thought of that, Hyper with HDR and Ultra balancing... That would be the dream!
I hope that, at least, comes with the Xbox/PS2 audio options (CPS 1, 2 and arranged).
Wasn't that game a spiritual successor to another game? But I get your point
@@no64256 If I recall correctly yes, but it wasn’t a direct sequel, nor has the branding been used for anything ever than the arcade archives rereleases, so I consider it a one-off.
Waku Waku was gonna be real?
The short/long button press idea from Turbo Revival might work well for a mobile version. You'd only need 3 buttons.
that's how we played in genesis' three button controller, it was a clever solution.
Thanks for at least touching on why HD Remix stopped being played that competitively. I was too young or out of the loop to understand why it died out and nobody ever talks about it anymore. I just thought it was a fun revision of SSF2T
I was so happy Violent Ken made it to a Capcom game
Where did Violent Ken come from the 90s Anime SF2 Movie or the SNK vs Capcom Chaos ? Don't know if his supposed be Brain Washed Anime Ken or a Evil Ryu knock off in the games his just added in for fun ...?
@@joezar33 He came from both. SVC CHAOS got the Violent Ken inspiration from the Street Fighter 2 movie.
cut my teeth on Hyper Fighting back in the day, with it being the first SF game I ever played it took me a long time to cotton on to the differences between the different versions of the characters you could select
Edayan's art style feels so good. The GBA game is one of my favorite games, just for how much effort and love was put into it.
I am glad the UA-cam algorithm suggested this video. As a life long player of street fighter 2 (since it's release) I really thoroughly enjoyed this video. You explained everything clearly and I learnt a few things I never knew before. Also, I never had a problem with the HD remix myself, I like it for what it is, but SSFT2 is the king 😁
Congrats by the way, you got a sub!
Thank you for giving the video a chance 🙇🏼♂️
Hope you like what else I got in store
@@VOAN you can also just play the Japanese version with is more balanced.
It did at least get on the Capcom Fighting Collection.
Best thing about HDR was the netcode. Online battles were quite solid, and made SFIV online play feel janky, especially in the early months (or after SSFIV). I still fire up my PS3 and play from time to time
Agreed HDR was fantastic for online play
I actually wish that Ultra Street Fighter 2 was released also on other platforms, just spare me the way of the hado... Great vid as usual!
Betcha that one will be ported to PS5 and Xbox Series X once Street Fighter reach its 40th Anniversary.
Man, I have a lot of nostalgia for turbo revival, it was my first experience with sf2.
(And after you do that once, he'll show up on the Colour Editor too)-
And yes, he's super busted too, he straight up has combos that regular Gouki can't replicate due to the double fireballs and the differences in some variants of Go Shoryuken and Tatsumaki Zankukyaku.
What you said about Hyper SF2's version select is basically what they did when Ultra Street Fighter IV came out.

Final Challengers is rough, of all the years playing various SF games this is the hardest to make raging demon to come out. But the evil Shodo do add a fun mix.
At this point they should just make a “Legacy” sf2 type game, with every SF character ever made in a HD remix style. Why not?!?!?

I do have a tiny request. Is there any way you could talk about either of these games?
A) Virtual Hiryū No Ken
B) Vs.
Both of them are PS1 fighting games and notoriously obscure, more so the former rather than the latter. I think they could use some of your love and expertise, and that you'd enjoy them (especially the first one).
Thank you for your kind words and support 🙇🏼♂️
I mentioned VS super briefly in my Slap Happy Rhythm Busters review but I totally need to take a deeper look into a lot of the nice 3D ps1 fighters cause there's tons of cool stuff.
It would be even better if every one of the four kings had a stage set in the base, you could even give Vega a fence for his, and it's like every fight you walk deeper into the lair until....BISON!!!(DUN, DUN, DUN!)
BUT MY MAN GUILE!!😂🤣 I guess it's more funny to me cuz my mom was in the Air Force and I grew up around these things, so I know, even to show off with a Harrier (which ostensibly this is), you NEVER EVER EVER get that close to rocks or people.
Last Blade rules. Do it!
Turbo Revival was my first ever fighting game. I got it for my GBA and since then fighting games have been my favourite video game genre!
16:10 "Probably the most unexplored SF game"
yeah no, that wouuld be Hyper Street Fighter Alpha for PS2
You can circumvent the Turbo Revival Akuma fight bug by setting the Round count to anything else than the standard best-of-three. For whatever reason.
HDR is the best version of SF2 next to HF imo. Shame there isn't a modern port of it.
The advance version would soft lock for shin Akuma 🤬
One button sup moves mad up for it.
Nice one brother 🤟
Cool video ♥️
Revival has completely different hit effects, and even changes the burn animation to match Alpha-onwards.
Imagine a Hyper SF2 Re-release with the addition of stuff from the other 3 games. Obviosuly the new Character versions with there balance and mechanics but also The colour editor, modes, HD sprites and stages ect.
You never know Capcom may still had one more chance to make an Ultimate Street Fighter II: The Real Final Challengers.
In the Japanese version of Super Turbo Revival, the Akuma Battle glitch is fix. Also the GBA version of Super Turbo is the first version of Super Turbo where you can finally play as Shin Akuma.
Actually it's the dreamcast version is where shin akuma is playable 1st.
Violent Ken's first appearance in a game was Street Fighter Zero 3, well kinda I guess you could call him a prototype of violent Ken as he doesn't have the visual design we now associate with the character established with SVC Chaos from the movie.
Ultra SFII is his first official appearance in a Capcom fighting game, SVC Chaos is an SNK fighting game.
Great video.
I gotta be honest though.
I like HSF2 and USF2 more than ST.
Ah yes.... HD Remix. So many years of joy. My gateway into Tournaments. :)
If I recall correctly, HDR was one of the first games to get Microsoft to increase the Size limit of the XBLA games.
Also because it's one of my favorite versions of Street fighter 2 actually.

SSF2T Revival has some patches like color restortion, Cammy and DeeJay's voices restorations and bug fix for the Akuma battle
Super glad to've found this vid because I genuinely did not know about the huge balancing issues that plagued hd remix, I thought it was literally just sf2 st with different art. Now I sorta get why people still stick with super turbo.
In Hyper SF2 Champion Edition Ken is very broken and very OP and you can easily beat single player arcade mode in one setting.
Random fighting game player: How many versions of SFII were there?
Me: Too many!
Awesome video! Long live ST!
Also in HSF2 WW characters can mirror match iirc they use the old character color 2

The real reasons why Capcom has so many editions to SFII other than the fact that they rushed through development:
There are no extra options and hidden codes at the player select of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, such as "Unlock All Bosses" and "Select Game Speed".
Turbo revival was the base for modern controller or not too modern
The fact that there's enough ST sequels to make it its own collection is mind boggling but rather have an Alpha collection featuring the best home ports of the alpha games AND Hyper SF Alpha online with rollback
This video was really great! I think I learned a lot about the _Super Turbo_ "sequels."
I'd love to see / hear an in-depth analysis of the console ports of _Super Turbo_ from you, as well as the console _Street Fighter: The Movie_ game - which was basically _Super Turbo_ with two new characters and photographic… uh… graphics.
Maybe one day I'll have to tackle the ports ... It's a daunting task 😅
SFtM:RBoF will definitely get a video some day.
You forgot the 8-player Tournament Battle hack they made for Super Street Fighter 2X recently.
Seeing those Prototype SF2HD Sprites tho, it´s a shame Capcom said no to those
Because Sony And Microsoft didn't want to pay for the budget of the large space of the game at the time so CAPCAM cheap on the art design I'm more disappointed they never drew the car crashing stage for HD Remix so today we can enjoy it in Ultra
I don't care what anyone says I love the art in HD remix and Ultra.
I love turbo revival I learned how to play on that tiny ds lite of mine
I get the feeling they touched up on the HD remix sprites for Ultra SF 2. Now they don't look as bulky as they did in HD Remix.

More ST
edit : btw, favorite video, so fun looking at these extra versions of the best cult classics :)
I wonder what the most officially re-released game in history is. (Official so that Doom doesn't take the top 10 spots all by itself)
Gun to my head without looking it up I'd wanna say Sonic 1 or RE4...Tetris if it counts 😅
@@GuileWinQuote RE4's been ported around a bunch, but I doubt it's even in the top 10. Tetris and Sonic are good guesses tho lol.
I would say that Ys 1 got plenty of ports for a RPG of the 80's.
@@GuileWinQuote Sonic 1 got re-released quite a lot (along with Sonic 2) but does the Master System/Game Gear port count? It's a different game fundamentally.
Tetris isn't the same game either but rather many variations of the same game.
Capcom promised Ultra SFII would be ported if the Switch version sold well. It did and they went silent
Because people b!tch and complain about the $40 price so they get what they deserve good for CAPCOM
the gba Street fighter 2 turbo revival was my second street fighter game. Played a bunch with my friends back in secondary school
Street Fighter The Movie on home consoles is also based off of Super Turbo.
Man, you are absolutely right and I definitely should have talked about it in this video...
I didn't even think of it!!! 😭😭😭
It'll have to wait for a SFtM video... I love the arcade and home console port a lot!
The arcade version is so stupid, it's fun.
