@@FalculoCornuto It depends, technically it's not a necessity on a M62 to lower the compression, especially if you're running below 8-9 psi. Hell there are a ton of compatible kits to supercharge an S62 designed to work with stock internals 11.0:1 vs the M62's 10.0:1. Granted there are a lot of other factors to consider on the given topic.
@@ibanezGretschman101 s62 is completely different engine! from people i know who supercharged those engines (m62) they say 0,5bar is max, i dont know how many psi it is, but i know you need to do a lot to gain some serious power, it sucks to mount 7k supercharger for 0,5bar..
@@FalculoCornuto You are absolutely right that it sucks to spend 7k and get such measly results. But the S62 and the M62 are very similar structurally. The Dinan kit made 485 with 8 pounds of boost with a warranty. Granted that's only slightly more that .5 bar, it also brings up the the fact that on pump gas to push these motors to "high horsepower" as you noted before you have to lower the compression. My point was that both engines suffer from the same weakness. Both being aluminum blocks, having forged cranks and rods from the factory, and having higher compression better suited to be optimized as NA motors. Still that wasn't the conversation, My main point was that you could push the M62 further. I use the S62 as an example noting the biggest difference between the 2 are the heads and cams, the itb's, the bore and stroke... ect, but also saying structurally they share the same weak points. With psi and compression ratio going hand in hand with how strong the internals of the motor are, it would suck to compare the price of building a "old school" BMW V8 to a LS, or a N55,N54, or a N/S63. I guess my main point was the principles of building a boosted aluminum block motor isn't very different when compression and pump gas is a factor. Especially when it's gonna cost you the same amount of money to get past 700 horsepower.
Its an eaton charger, they whine like that. And do that math bro, n/a 540 is not doin 60mph-100mph (100-160kph) in just over 4 seconds like this one did. M5s arent that quick either.
9 sec. from 100 to 200 is very impressive. That is about the level of the newer M5's.
new m5s do 100-200 in around 7 seconds. the e60 m5 repetively does 8.8. ~10s for this kind of power is standard stuff

How’d you get the supercharger mounted? Custom fab or does someone make a kit? Definitely want to supercharge my 540i soon-ish lol this looks sick
Dinancars makes supercharger kits foe 540i
youtube partspy they have a custom kit

How much did this build run you for?
Did you need to remove the vanos? Or no?

400,000 miles?! that's impressive
Kilometers not miles but still really good
I have questions about Supercharger and if you have contact
intercooler ? E85 ?
weeeeeeee
SUPER 👍👍👍 Engine Stock ? Only put supercharger ? Or Engine Piston change ? I have 540 E39 2001. I was put turbo kit. Engine piston+block finis ☹
i think you need to lower compression on piston rings when you supercharge this engine

Where can I buy a supercharger?
Junkyard, refirbish it and ur the man. But probably it won’t last long :)

60-120 in 8.5 seconds is pretty quick. It takes a new scatpack about 10 seconds to do the same.
