Awesome episode!! Thanks for the "diet" tips I'm struggling with my off the bike nutrition and looking to make some immediate changes.

thanks for watching. Its so personalized you just have to keep throwing spagetti at the wall until something sticks.

Every thing I’ve learned, I’ve borrowed from folks like Kurt Refsnider, Dave Harris (my current coach), and Jesse Reeves (my current spirit animal). During my latest go of Verde Valley Randonnee, I consumed 90 grams of carbs (360 calories) per hour for 19 hours. This increased amount of carbs has been pretty revolutionary for me. I set a timer on my Garmin to go off every 20 minutes to make sure if I’m maintaining a consistent flow. I also add Elmnt to water.

thanks for sharing. you crushed it. Could a plan like this work with longer efforts where the only resupply is gas stations and grocery stores? I know you had gels but what was the ratio of gels to real food?

@@TheEnduranceStudio for VVR, I consumed gels, liquid, and a few Maurten bars. But it would be a stretch to say the bars are solid food. I would not employ the same strategy for an event over 24 hours. Instead I’d definitely incorporate more real food. Pizza and burritos!

Great show love listening to it. I was supposed to be riding Pinyons in Pines but had to cancel last minute and missed you there… Too bad.
Shooting for the grand loop this Friday it looks like quite the epic first self-support mountain bike race for me to say the least.
Regarding nutrition, and everything talked about in the show, I wonder if you’ve done any research into pemican? It’s quite the incredible food that is considered nutritionally complete.
Filled with protein, calories, and depending what you add to it, also carbohydrates. I made up some pumpkin with grass, fed beef, and added nuts, blueberries, cranberries, sea salt for flavor and electrolytes, maple syrup for flavor and more carbohydrates and calories, and of course the base is tall or fat. This is a perfect food for endurance sports as it has almost an unlimited shelf life and will not spoil needs not be cooked.
    Love to hear your thoughts.

thanks for watching 🙏🏻 and too bad I missed ya at P&P - it was a good one this year. Did you end up doing the Grand Loop? that one is def on my radar for next season. The Pemican sounds like a great solution to get calories when a resupply option may not be readily available. It would probably satisfy my protein desire but def not my sugar needs. I'd probably have to supplement with something else higher in sugar. Got any recipes you would be willing to share?
