thats usually the case. more blades, less noise. in this case it might as well but it seems the resonating body of the drone is the origin of the noise.
@@quadmovr It also sounds like the motors are spinning faster, which would reduce flight time. im trying to find the propellers that would allow it to fly the longest.
It sounds like this on video but in real life i find the 5 bladed prop to sound "smoother" even if it is a little bit higher pitched than stock. Also the 5-bladed propeller is much more stable.
I agree, even in the video I found the 5's to be more pleasing despite being higher pitch. I've ordered a set of coloured ones more as a cosmetic than performance, here's hoping it goes well
I tried 3, 4, 5 and 6 blades. The sound level is similar with all props but the 5 blade is the least annoying and 4 blade is half way between the 3 and 5 blades on the annoying scale. I did not notice a reduction in flight time but I did not measure it. I suspect the 3 blade props offer a slightly higher flying time, but I don't really care about that, only the noise is a concern for me.
I just did a test of 2 inch props from 2 to 5 blade on a Flylens 85. I found more blades made less noise until going to the 5 blade. Lower pitch made for higher RPM, making the perceived noise higher. Seems like slower RPM needed is why more blades seem quieter and sound nicer. The data I posted on a Flylens 85 video: I tested a variety of Gemfan Hurricane props in a hover well out of ground effect using GNB 2x850mAh. Sound level measured 3 feet away, quad weighs 61gr no batt, draws 1.6A with motors not armed: 1. GF Hur 2015 2 blades: 69dBA, 6.5A, 26000 RPM 2. GF Hur 2009 3 blades: 72dBA, 7.3A, 30000 RPM 3. GF Hur 2023 3 blades: 69dBA, 7.0A, 20000 RPM 4. GF Hur 2020 4 blades: 67dBA, 6.8A, 18000 RPM 5. GF Hur 2020 5 blades: 68dBA, 7.5A, 17500 RPM Surprised how little difference there was in dBA sound levels, but the RPM needed to hover seems to make the most difference in perceived sound, the 2009 3 blades are the only ones I really didn’t like, they are low pitch and really scream. The 5 blades sounded worse than the 4 blades, and efficiency suffered.
Nice comparison.. Less blades OR larger props = deeper sound. Much much more comfortable to listen to than high pitch. I wonder if someone makes 2 blade props for the Avata 2... Also though, less blades = less "grip" in the air. You will drift more..
A few years ago (!) we used to use an anti vibration gel that drummers use to tune their drums and reduce unwanted vibrations, it was called "MoonGell". It comes in small patches you would stick it on the camera gimbal to reduce vibration, I wonder.......
Hmm. To my ear the 6-blade props doubled the screeh frequency without much reduction of overall level. The 5-blade props sounded a little quieter, at least. However, a 135g 2-inch with excess material in the way of the prop thrust is always going to sound like a stuck pig. Physics is physics. Snip off those hoops on the bottom and you'll hear a bigger difference, I'll bet. It'll fly better, too.
the perceived volume of the 6 blade is higher because of the higher frequency but actually the measured volume (dB) is quite a bit lower compared to the 3 blade. you are right, with more structures in the way of the air stream, there are more turbulences which increases the noise.
@betelgeusealphao Taking that logic to a reasonable conclusion, zero blades would be tge quietest, since negative numbers of propulsion devices is not achievable, though power would also be zeroed out.
I kinda wanna see a fixed two blade propeller, it would definitely reduce the responsiveness but might be great for indoor shooting where noise is more of a concern
its due to the increased number of blades. if you use way more blades, this frequency can be brought outside the human hearing. theres experiments studying this.
Can you tell me the thread size and length of the screws to mount the HQ props? I don’t want to trash my motors and the stock screws are too short? ..🤔🤔🤔🤔
For nuisance to people, what matters is the perception of noise rather than any objective measure of sound energy. Now, that perception is actually going to have large individual variation. One physical (rather than personal) factor is age-related hearing loss. These high frequencies will have different audibility to grandparents and grandchildren. And among UA-cam viewers, the sound they get will vary greatly - think of the difference between a phone’s internal speaker and some high end headphones! We have to assume quite a lot about the recording conditions and the microphone’s frequency response. So, thanks for an interesting and thought-provoking, if not definitive, video

@@325amt It seems a quite inconsistent. More thrust = higher speed ? Or this is not case here ? I understand, that it is harder to spin, so acceleration of props would be smaller, but moving speed of drone seems a little bit higher, as it is shown in a video. Also efficiency is dependent on supported thrust for given energy. For example with a Gemfan D51-5 props, NEO is able to hover 15 minutes, which is a little bit less than a hover time for standard props. A completely different story is the real flight. Based on my testing, NEO is able to flight with standard props and 30km/h speed around 10 minutes. With a Gemfan props, the flight time with the same speed exceeds 11 minutes.

there not much difference. the perceived volume of the 6 blade is higher because of the higher frequency but actually the measured volume (dB) is quite a bit lower compared to the 3 and 5 blade. what makes the neo loud is not the props itself but the shell which seems to resonate and is acting as a sound body.

some say the 4 blade props are quieter than the 5 blade props. great video, nice way to show the comparison.
Thank you for taking the time and aggro of changing the blades to make a direct comparison 👌 I too will be keeping my stock blades!🤣😎

I dont mind the sound tbh. Its just make me aware of where my drone when follow mode. No sound = stuck or crash somewhere.
3 blade 👍👍👍
The difference in pitch is interesting. Is there an arrangement that would shift the pitch outside the range of human hearing?
its due to the increased number of blades. if you use way more blades, this frequency can be brought outside the human hearing. theres experiments studying this.
You really want dogs chasing your drone 😂
No, dogs will be super annoyed by high pitch sound... they will run away from it 😂
Generally less blades would be the better idea for less noise. Would be interested to see if you can get it flying with some beefy 2 blade props
He's basically proven the opposite in other videos.
the unreleased dji Flip has 2 blade props. it's about the size of a mini 4 pro
I can installed the 6 blade prop wjthout an adapter, just a few small tweaks on the prop.
what did you tweaked there?
