  • After making 760+hp on the hub dyno and running an 8 second pass at over 160mph (260km/h) on the quarter mile, we thought it was a good time to pull some components of the car down and make sure everything is operating as it should. This video will focus on the 13B engine teardown, how its done, and whats inside.

    The engine from our rx7 is out. If you are new here, thanks for watching. This is an engine that has been built for drag racing and big power, hence why it has semi PP housings, machined rotors, an extra dowel and 1/2” studs instead of the regular tension bolts.

    Great to know that she's looking good and healthy on the inside, its impressive what these little engine are able to handle when built right. Won't be long till you'll be craving that 7 second slip. 👍

      I wish I bought a spray gun earlier. The results you can get with a rattle can and then decent 2k gun gloss are fantastic and very durable.

      Hahaha, well I'll be buggered, gold! I watch all this stuff on an android box on the TV and you don't really get the option to see the credits. It's hard enough to get to the like clicks.
      I hope you can get it down to the low eights once she's all back together!

    I saw a "pro street" Commodore back in the 90s before "pro street" was really a thing that had the engine bay powdercoated a very light grey. Looked fucken mint, reflected plenty of light so you could see what you were doing in there, and it was nice and tough and scratch resistant.

    Love me a good ol rotor 👌 Sadly I can't afford them 🤣 I actually contemplated dropping a 20b into my vn as I absolutely love the sound of 20bs and then saw the price tag and was like wow I could drop a blown big block chev in it for that price 😳🤣
    Looked at the Pac billet 13b on their website as it's all they had a price on and it was 60k 😬 I figured a 20b is probably around 75k easily, yikes! 🤣
    Anyway It'd be mad if u could do a step by step vid on the reassembly of the little engine that could, I know it'd be a long one but unfortunately there aren't any in depth builds online, most people just breeze past the apex seal n side seal parts.
    Anyway keep up the mad work and ah 7s here we come 👌🤣

      @@BroomysGarage awesome thanks mate I'll go give it watch.
      Would love one but I feel the only I'd afford is to buy a rebuilder and build it myself, can already put a piston engine together so a rotor should be pretty straight forward 👌
      But in saying that cheapest stock rebuilder 20b I've seen is 5500 and 4 for a 13b 😳🙄

    Hi Broomy,
    Can you go in to more details about the turbo400 conversion to 13b, the bell housing, adaptor plate, converter ect. Looking to do a turbo400 behind my 13b and there not much out there on how to do this. Thanks heaps keep up the good work. 👍🏻

    • @BroomysGarage
      @BroomysGarage  2 роки тому

      There is 3 options on the market today to put a th400 behind a rotary. First is you have to have an auto FD rear plate, cosmo engine or billet rear plate. You use the mr enforcer adapter plate on a milled down th400 case and a cosmo/fd auto bellhousing. I have this setup, however I custom modified the setup to run a rear mount starter as well. Second option is to run a cast bellhousing that mounts to any 12a/13b engine type and used a rear mount starter. These are quite large and I believe Als Race Glides sell them. Third option is to use an adapter plate that almost acts as a mid plate. You then bolt a normal chev type th400 to the adapter plate. Run a chev starter and chev flex plate and converter. I really like this option as the chev parts are cheaper, easier to get, and also the bigger chev bellhousing will give more converter choices. I am looking into a fourth option of having QuickTime make a steel SFI bellhousing as well.

      @@BroomysGarage Hi Boomy,
      I have a C4 auto it keep cooking the trans oil and burning clutch packs, engine is good for 800hp and the C4 just isn't up to it, do you know who supplies the adaptor plate, flex plate and any thing else I will need to do this conversion to the turbo 400 ??. Also the chev flex plate, I guess its just drilled to match the counter weight bolt holes on the 13B, with the input spigot into the crank from the converter, I guess its just machined down or an adaptor fitted. I like the idea of using chev parts as you say their cheaper and lot more options, like bolt together converter. Any help with this is appreciated.

    • @BroomysGarage
      @BroomysGarage  Рік тому

      racingautomatic.com/newsite/ the setup runs a ‘mid plate’ and an adapter ring for the counterweight. So the chev bellhousing bolts to the mid plate and the chev flex plate bolts to the adapter ring.

    won't you need to match the ports on the mid and rear plate that your keeping ??

    • @BroomysGarage
      @BroomysGarage  2 роки тому +1

      The manifold is already based on cosmo porting. The billet plate is also based on cosmo porting. The engine is already match ported to suit the manifold so nothing to do.

      @@BroomysGarage but isn’t your rear and mid plate bridge ported, you were saying you wont bridge port the new front plate, I thought this would cause problems with even air / fuel delivery ?? Or is it not that crucial, by the way I have a semi pp, bridge ported 13b billet boss. Thanks

    • @BroomysGarage
      @BroomysGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Will make little to no difference considering the overall size of the cosmo port in the plate is bigger than the FD port anyway. It only has a tiny bridge in the end plates only. The centre plates don’t have one.
