    This is new to me. Wonderful song! Beautifully sung. Joan's standards were so high, she always gave the best performance she could, 100% always. There is no one who so enjoyed singing to us, who loved us as much as we loved her.

    At least she sings in Russian (btw, do you speak Russian to know if she speaks it correctly or not?), while the vast majority of non-Slavic singers record this song in other languages, like French. Besides, come on, at least half of this song is pure vocalise, there are no words in it. ;-)

    Although Joan is a superb singer this is just too far away from her forte, the diction is ok for a non-Russian speaker, but is clearly a struggle that is pulling things down, the tempo and phrasing is strange and off, probably due to Mr.Bonynge's interpretation/direction. Probably should not have been done, so many other options to showcase Mdm.Sutherland's gifts.

    Typical Joan Sutherland...I was beginning to nod off halfway through. Mechanical, wooden. Much prefer the rendition of Albina Shagimuratova. This gal puts some Life and Joy into it. Sounds like a different piece altogether. And what language is Joan singing in? I can never tell, Sounds a bit French to me, a mushy French at that.

    • @Dadacomero
      @Dadacomero 9 років тому +6

      Albana has a small ugly voice and less than acceptable technique, that's why she has to scream high Fs ,make weird faces and hand movements while singing. Dame Joan expressess everything with one single note

    • @Homoclassicus
      @Homoclassicus 9 років тому +7

      You clearly don't like Sutherland, so of course you won't like her interpretation. I don't know why some opera fans are so masochist. However, your perception on this is very controversial. I much prefer this slower, more lyrical and fierce approach to the song than the feisty canary-like singing of most interpreters of this song, especially the "tin-pot" coloraturas that often sing it. And there is a good reason for that: if you read the translation of the complete Russian lyrics of "Solovey", it's clearly a poetic and melancholy song, not a song to be sung as a happy peasantress cheerfully mimicking the birds, not even with a lot of "joy".

    too many lows in her voice, her timbre is somewhat thick and dark for this, so the voice should be thinner, higher-pitched, lighter to sing it better. Nightingale (Solovey) is for coloratura soprano, but she is just a common soprano
