Pho Tan Vietnamese on 41st in Kerrisdale and MamaLee's Maylasian in Kits are both great!! If you want a fun date night restaurant check out Baru in Kits as well. sybersue.com/2017/09/01/a-whole-lot-of-mojitolatino-date-night-fun-at-baru-restaurant-in-vancouver/ It's not super cheap but it's worth a visit. Bau Chau 2717 E Hastings St, Vancouver, BC V5K 1Z8 The fact that you left this place off the list makes me question your expertise. Best spring rolls in Vancouver best pho in Western hemisphere. No debt cash only.
You guys obviously have done your homework on the well priced ethnic restos in Vancouver. Good job. I will mention that Phnom Penh should have been highlighted instead of just an honourable mention. They have long lineups for good reason. Also, Ba Le (beside Sal y Limon) or Petit Cafe on Main St. for the viet sandwiches.
I bet New Town is a Filipino-Chinese Restaurant. Their bola-bola looks delicious. Sign written in Chinese on the center and "Tuloy po kayo" on the right (means "Please come in" in English). Also, bola-bola (a type of Siopao) is the filipino version of steamed buns which is from Chinese origin. In the Philippines, it comes with a sweet sauce to balance the savory flavor of the meat.
Thanks for your input. I believe their owner was originally from Hong Kong but the buns taste quite similar to what you describe the sauce from Philippines. Besides that, we know there are so many Filipinos live in Hong Kong.
I find this interesting, because my parents (them originally from the Philippines, I was born here) have been buying those buns from New Town ever since we were kids. They've only ever called it siopao. Besides going to New Town they don't usually go to downtown/Chinatown that often. My mom used to work in Hong Kong before she moved here. My dad likes the pork buns especially.
@@FlowerEmblem Hope you and your parents are doing great out there. Siopao is really good. I am curious if they ever made you try it. If yes, how did you find it? Try mentioning "Ma Mon Luk" to your parents and let me know their reaction. It is one of those old places in the Philippines that serves tasty Siopao.
Didn't know Vancouver has that much of convenient food stuff herd so much about its natural beauty and climate but food not much thanks for the info l must visit Vancouver cause the trio has complete
Not sure if you know this but the origin of the name bola bola for the pork bun you ate came from the Philippines. The Philippines has two major types of these steamed buns (which of course originated from its Chinatown - supposedly the oldest in the world) the first is Asado (which in Tagalog/Spanish means Roast or Barbecue) which is the barbecued pork filling that is the same as Char Siu Bao and the second is the bola bola. Bola is Ball in Tagalog / Spanish and bola bola is a term for meat ball. Just thought you might find that interesting.
I realize there are many places to go,and you gave good choices. But how you can not have Hawker’s on Main Street on this list is amazing. Vancouver’s perennial cheap eats for many years.
Good call with most of these! Agreed that Phnom Penh should get its full review if there's anymore food reviews, and also try Banh Mi Saigon on Victoria Drive
Will be checking them out, can you please make more videos like these. More restaurants and dessert places and coffee shops that are cheap and affordable. Places you can hang out or chill and not paying much within the lower mainland. Please and thank you
One practical question: in these kind of restaurants where you pay directly at the moment you order to you also tip? As European I’m not used to “tipping system” as it exists in Canada (and also in US) so I thought I better ask.....I’m having my first trip to Canada / Vancouver next September and for sure I will visit these places you show in the video, thanks!
I'll usually tip of they bring the food to me and take the dishes away when I'm done (they do this at Sal y limon) The card machine will ask whether you want to tip a percent of your total or a dollar amount. If you're paying cash there is usually a tip jar on the counter. If the place doesn't have table service (like most coffee shops) I don't usually tip.
We have a near identical Indian place as the one in this video out in Port Coquitlam, except it's called Bombay Sweets. Same in-store set up and pricing. Sooo good!

@@AheadofThymeRecipes prolly yeah. Not sure if bola means anything in Chinese but it's a Spanish word for ball. I think Chinese shared this and Filips started called it with their own name for some reason (easier to pronounce I guess)

Finally someone that pronounces quesadilla correctly, good job! Many people wrongly say Kay-sa-dee-ya. It should be keh-sa-dee-ya like you say it 0:54

明家的烤鸭大温第一!
Cheapest food
My mind: Richmond public market
Too many ads
That's what my wife says
What 2 fools gave thumbs down?
Thanks I know right? Haha😀
Do not buy anything cheap, the sellers are not dump.
Has anyone else had a stomachache after eating bola bola ?
Sorry to hear that. Highly unlikely
Cheap and Vancouver don't go together ... BC SUCKS ...Bring Cash stands for BC ..
You sound like a bitter Albertan.
Disappointed with the plastic cutlery at Sal y Limon. And disappointed that you didn’t take your own reusable cutlery.
Went to sal y limon once. That’s not traditional Mexican food and damn it was bad food
but cheap
Richmond isn't Vancouver, you cheated!!
Hahaha 🙈
This is the most boring tour ive even seen.
i don't mean to disrespect, but i am sorry to say that the Vietnamese food and Chinese looked way to poor in front of Indian cuisine.
