  • Howdy everyone, thank you for joining us again for another episode of Witty’s Garage.
    Today’s episode were going to be performing an oil change on this awesome vehicle that is apart of a great collaboration between Automotive UA-camrs across the USA.
    The vehicle is a 1962 Dodge Lancer named #stonesoup. It was given to ‪@DiecastDreamCustoms‬ by ‪@heavensmopars‬ as a project rig to eventually take to #nonamenationals in September later this year. I very much look forward to seeing all the future videos and what happens to this awesome old car.
    Thank you all for watching. God Bless, and have a cold brewski responsibly.

    That drain plug is a repair plug to retap new threads in the pan. The gas is probably from a bad carb.

      @@NathansMoparGarage oh gotcha. That’s really cool and good to know. I have changed many vehicles oil over the years and that was my first time seeing that style plug. 😎🤘🏻
      Would not disagree with ya on the carb. 😅

    Gas in the oil is ost likely a bad diafram in the fuel pump. The oil plug is a self taping plug.

    • @DarkFlamage
      @DarkFlamage 2 місяці тому +1

      Yes, Likely the diaphram in fuel pump has a split in it and is now allowing fuel into the crankcase. Replacing it is cheap insurance against this happening again.

    Did they change the formulas of synthetic oils? Synthetic in older cars always made things a leak factory with older weaker seals for me.

    • @wittysgarage
      @wittysgarage  2 місяці тому +1

      @@6percentrecycled could definitely be a problem at some point with leaks. I think someone is going to do the seals/gaskets down the road though. Something for everyone to keep in mind when taking hold of the rig. 😎
      It has certainly started leaking on my dads ‘86 and will be doing the gaskets on the 300 at some point.

      Generally it's a bad idea. 5w-30 synth is going to wash out the rope seal on the rear of the engine most likely. The detergency and light weight oil does great things for new engines, but experience does not speak well of switching the diet from good old fashion dino juice. Still better than running gas instead of oil, so keep up the good effort!

    • @wittysgarage
      @wittysgarage  2 місяці тому +1

      @@KimPassable I do expect to see some leaking issues down the road but I’m hoping someone to get into this engine a lot deeper and possibly replace the rope seal and others. 😎
      Most definitely better than running fuel as lubricant. 😅

    Putting 5w-30 syn. Oil in a 60 year old car is asking for trouble. The car was designed to run 30 w or 20w depending on time of year. A syn oil in an old car will encourage leaks every where. I would drain the oil and put in a straight 30w. This is from experience.

    • @wittysgarage
      @wittysgarage  2 місяці тому

      @@terrylandburg6038 leaks are bound to happen with anything we do with this car at this point sadly. 😅 At least it got some fresh golden goodness for now. 😎
      I’m sure someone will switch it to a thicker weight down the road. 😁
      I did read on 4 different forums about the 225ci of other people using 5w-30 with good results so that’s why I initially went with that, and figured it might help clean out more deposits by getting into every crevice. 💪🏻🤘🏻
      Appreciate you watching. Hope you enjoyed. 😊

    I think you are the first person to change the oil on this car in years. The car has never started very well and the carb was changed when DDG had the car. And there you go with Mobil 1 and filter. The engine will be like new!

  • @Raycr

    Flooding the engine will cause fuel in the oil. Also, a bad mechanical fuel pump will dump gas in the oil. Is the mechanical pump still connected?

    • @wittysgarage
      @wittysgarage  3 місяці тому +1

      @@Raycr it’s still connected but not in use. Guys before me switched it over to a electric pump. That would make sense though with the flooding. 👍🏻

    I had a 225 that had so much blow by that it’d push oil out the dipstick tube and the oil pan gasket I pulled the head and it had ridges the thickness of a business card but it still ran for years like that. These engines never say die

    I've had a few of those engines, all of them 225's. The problem with Syth oil is that it not only leaks past old seals but it doesn't contain Zinc which is essential for the cam and lifters to get lubed properly. An old old trick was to run a 1/2 pinto f ATF in the oil before changing it. It will clean the guts of the engine without harming anything,especially if it's been sitting around for a while. regular #30 oil is all they need but should be changed at 5000 miles maximum.

    Alcohol fuels are eating up old mechanical fuel pumps now. Fuel leaks past the alcohol-made-brittle broken rubber diaphragm in the pump and fuel dumps into the crankcase.
