  • The lift or corkscrew is a popular and very useful hoop trick for beginners and beyond. With this step-by-step tutorial from Mad Moonrise Hoop Dance, anyone can learn it. Don't skip any of the steps, they are equally important! It's a good idea to use a large hoop for this trick.

    I just started hooping like three days ago and I went from never having hula hopped and not being able to keep the hoop around my waist for more than two passes to moving while hooping and being able to do a few tricks. I just wanted to say I haven’t tried to corkscrew yet but your tutorial is excellent at breaking it down and I really appreciate it!

    I watched your video over and over and paused it as I practiced. I couldn't figure out how your hand was changing position at the top and you just make it look so easy. I finally got it! Thanks! (I did hit my head quite a bit at first!)

    I feel like this is best tutorial ever because no one ever talks about the grip change! I couldn’t figure this trick out until I watched this video and I was like YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO CHANGE YOUR GRIP THIS IS INCREDIBLE I mean I wondered why really good hoopers seem to “pluck” the hoop into a vortex

    Cute choice of music😊
    I've been trying to get this, your fee added steps that others don't help have really helped me out.
    Now to get the timing down on the actual grip will hooping.

      I have a weighted hula hoop. Can I try this trick with that or is there a specific type of hula hoop I would need to teach myself tricks with it?

    • @crystaldawn4510
      @crystaldawn4510 7 років тому

      Robbin Sandlin , I am new to hooping and started with a weighted hoop as well. I personally (because of the bruises I obtained from just waist hooping)would not recommend it. I use a lighter hoop that I made. Works great and hurts a lot less!😊

    • @theredrobbin
      @theredrobbin 7 років тому

      Hi Crystal Haggerty, thank you so much for your response. I ended up ordering a Polypro 3/4" 34 inches hoop, per my further research, guess it's a lot lighter. I have tried doing the corkscrew, but in practicing with this weighted one, I'm lucky I didn't break my iPhone when it slammed onto the desk. LOL. How the heck did you make one. Good for you

    • @nikhera
      @nikhera 6 років тому

      You can order polypro tubing from websites that specialize in hooping supplies, or you can buy irrigation tubing from the hardware store. Hooping supply store sell decorative tape (sparkly, reflective, colour changing, patterned etc.) to decorate your hoop as well. And then you just need to cut the tubing to proper size you like and assemble the hoop. It's kinda fun, but when I ordered tubing the smallest package I could find was 100', so I made one hoop and I still have 90' of tubing sitting around YIKES

      If you haven’t already gotten the answer to this question or if some one else is wondering: get a big/heavy dance hoop. What’s good for me, may not be good for you, but I got the biggest/ thickest size available. Once I got the hang of it I downsized.
      Also try decorating your hoop with the sticky vet tape/wraps. It’s what they use to wrap the arm after they draw blood or to cover injuries. It was vital to me learning to chest hoop! It’s sticky, but trust me, it really helps! You’ll want a sticky hoop & a regular hoop for practice b/c the sticky one wasn’t great for learning ISOs, for me anyway. The heavy ones are hard to learn how to do ISOs as well, but to get basic body hooping & transitions down, start with a heavy & large hoop. Go the cheaper route till you figure out what works for you, then you can get fancy, decorative hoops, & even an LED hoop. Don’t spend a lot of money on that stuff just starting out though. Everyone’s different, & what worked well for one person, may not be right for you.

    Isn't cork screw the name of a water slide at west Edmonton mall

    • @SimmingGirl
      @SimmingGirl 7 років тому +2

      marsss Panda and more um maybe?? You realize corkscrew is an actual word that's had many things named after it, your mall slide isn't the only corkscrew.

    • @nikhera
      @nikhera 6 років тому

      A corkscrew is a tool used to open wine bottles, shaped like a spiral. Therefore, it would make sense that a slide (presumably) with a spiral shape, and a hooping move that requires the hoop to move in a spiral, would have the same names.

      Been a year. I bet you rock it now! Happy Hoppin’! Keep going! I got into it in 2012. I learned so many tricks & for some reason I stopped. I wonder where I’d be with it if I had just kept on? I won’t be making that mistake again. I had to learn corkscrews again, it had been so long. I had it down pat before. I had chest hooping down pat too. I mean I wasn’t a pro, but I was doing it. I’m slow too. We will speed up, & I bet you already have by now. Stay strong & happy my dear! ✌🏼😄

      Don’t give up! It will come, I promise. Work on it a little each day. Not to the point where you get frustrated, but work on it some. It really helps me to work on a few new tricks during practice each day, that way I can switch it up when I find myself getting frustrated with one trick. I do that, plus work on stuff I already know well to keep my moral up. Also try some yoga with your hoop. Deep breathing, & relaxing stretches before practice does wonders for me.
      ✌🏼😄

      As the video shows, start with a stationary hoop, learn the steps to the corkscrew. Once you get the stros down then work on learning to grip.
      I agree it will not come overnight
