Thx, no it'll depend on the starting edge. If I have doubts about the bevel quality I would start with low grit (diamond stone) if I believe the bevel is correct I would start with a 1k stone.
I commented on your first video that I had the same issue that you did about the Amboina. I just got a replacement for mine (8/8") and I am starting to suspect that perhaps what is "wrong" with the edge might not be the steel but the method that Boker is using to hone the razor. Could it be that they are using convex hones (nothing wrong with that if you have convex hones too) and we are using flat ones? The edge completely folded on mine when I ran it against soft wood to kill the edge because the factory edge was not to my liking.
Thru use an abrasive wheel. So it's slightly convex bit they also confirmed that there was an issue with the "steel heating" process. Most people using straight razor, almost all use flat stones. In my (very personal) opinion, convex stones are not a.viable method to hone razors.
@@FroggyShave I wonder if I should send back the replacement too. I can get it to hold the edge now but it is not like the other Bokers (5 years older or more) that I have. I hone with Jnats and the edges that I shave with look pretty straight with no micro-chips. The 8/8's edge looks more like a coticule edge than a Jnat but that is the best that I can get from that razor. At least it holds the edge and it does not chip anymore
@@ramonmurillo167 I'd say if it holds the edge and if it shave smoothly and comfortably I would keep it as... You don't know what you gonna get instead 😂 So far I shave once with mine so can't say if it holds the edge
I had a big issue with boker! The handle was lose and very poor quality. The loosnes was not removed at all neither with a new one handle and the blade remained not centered neither the next time . The cost arrived to be about the double! So I had to stop because unpinning the handle would have damaged the handle and I must have paid for another shipping and handle and reparation . They have proved not to be able to center handle neither a second time! Material hand are very poor and bad mounted!😢 Happy Boker??😖 Boker is not good for me! They cancelled my negative review!😝😖
Glad it was solved eventually.
I have never experienced this issue and I have 8 modern Boker razors, all which are great shavers.
Cheers!
I'm glad to hear! It was the 1st time I experienced such issue but heard it happened to others
Nice work done again. Learned a lot looking at your videos. Keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot for your support Franck! 🙏😊
Very nice Good job
Thanks a lot Bruno!
Hi. Nice 👍 quick question. When you hone up a razor do you always start with the 600?

I'm sorry to hear about this negative experience 😔
So far, it was the only issue I had with them and was happy with their support.
I had exactly the same issue with my 8/8. Look at my post above.
