  • In today's video we find the crew from Seattle Tree Care cleaning up an unbelievable sight. Three towering oak trees somehow fell at the same time, in three different directions and didn't hit a thing. You'll discover some of the heavy machinery employed to take care of such a large project.
The arborists would have their hands full with just one of these trees but to see all three of them on the is a daunting sight. As the team dispatches a couple Ditch Witch's and a remote control stump grinder, Peter works on the Seattle Tree Care boat. His intention is to haul the logs back to the yard by waterway. Did he bring a big enough boat or are you about to witness the final voyage of the SS Seattle Arborist? We know wood floats, right? What about Arborists? Do they sink or swim?

In the crew's defense, this was the last day of the project. I think it was the fourth day they were out here for it. Part of the reason it took so long, and what you see in the video, we had to be extremely careful with the surroundings. They honestly worked their butts off and everyone was ready for this one to end. That said, Peter only knows one speed...GOGOGO. It was rather entertaining to see the guys take a break and Peter still at it. I wish I had thought to film that part but I was pretty tired too.

Floating out a trunk of a large heavy. Usually helps to have a lift bag or some other air fillable container attached to the trunk. Help out that buoyancy a good bit. But at the same time, it's not like you're going to be using them all the time so it's understandable to not have them ready at hand.
None the less, that looked like quite a job to take on. Tight access going in from land side. While water access was nearly unlimited. Just wasn't anything to carry the equipment to the water side and be able to deal with shallow access. Thinking to that end, a Higgins style boat might be an investment. But again it's not something that would be used daily. Same with getting an amtrac 'alligator'.

From your comments I can trace your route through the videos. Have you watched them all yet?
This was definitely a memorable project. What was quite amazing was the fact the trees didnt hit a single thing when they fell. And they fell in a perfect triangle.

@SeattleTreeCare I haven't been through them yet. I like to pace out watchable for down time periods. That being said, I'm for sure going to be whittling my way through all the videos you have here, it might take me a while but I'll get them.
And that tree fall, if It wasn't one that had no other appearance of having been placed, would have been sworn to have been staged. I'm pretty sure more than a few have accused or implied that, but I know such things can happen. Especially with three or more trees growing in that close proxy to each other. all the limbs basically grow on on side. Enough that all it would take was a bit of weakening of the root mass at the center. Then one starts leaning and pulling the root bundles of the other two. In short order, all three are laying on their heavy sides.
I'm sure that when they were standing it wold have been one of those neat oddball sights to behold But o anyone that's been around trees, especially an arborist, would know that such a cluster was a fall just waiting to happen.

There was quite a bit of wood that didnt see the inside of the chipper. Could only show so much of that before the video got redundant tho. With so much happening during a job, its sometimes a challenge to figure out what to show and what not to show.
