Yeah, it works on several layers. There is the societal critic, where the enforcers chooses to not breathe the same air as the trenchers, and the class level, like the trenchers can't and probably don't really know, that even their air is poisonous, where the upper class lives in a safe air.
@@beethewizard They know what's going on. They just chose not to look at it directly because it's more convenient to ignore it. Every time things got worse, their first priority was to protect their own immediate interest, and they failed to see the long term consequences down the line until it was too late.
I love her analytical pov, but sometimes she let's how she feels about a character stop her from seeing their pov. I'm scared they'll be on the blind hate train but still look forward to their analysis
"It's based on League of Legends" "Oh, yeah, Zelda!" God, i ahven't laughed this hard ina long time. This man is rethinking _all_ his lifechoices in one moment 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The show has a lot of storylines and characters it dedicates its time to, but the heart and soul of the show is definitely Vi and Powder's relationship.
I am so incredibly excited for both of you to watch the show, but I'm even more excited Kenny has stopped before episode 3. The first two episodes, while still being really good, are mostly setup for everything we need to know. All of the episodes from episode 3 until the very end are absolutely incredible and seeing both of you react to them for the first time is going to be great.
Fyi: the thugs in the beginning never intended on capturing anyone, they just wanted some of the loot. Why steal from innocents when you can steal from thieves, am I right. Powder dumping the bag only provided a momentary distraction for her to keep running. It would've been a better outcome to just give up half at the beginning, or just give up the bag when cornered. That way you can plan to take it back. Of course no one wants to get punked though so peace wasnt on the table. Powder wasnt rationally thinking about her self worth but thinking the bag was worth more than her, so she tossed it thinking she isnt valuable enough for him to focus on. Quite sad if you think about it
Hard to believe Powder`s story was born out of a few short paragraphs of lore, a music video, years of fan theories of Jinx and Vi being sisters Rior finally decided to confirm officially and two voicelines, huh?
This show proves just how good it is in the first scene. With absolutely no dialogue it conveys everything it wants to and more: It sets up the class divide between Piltover and the Undercity while also showing us exactly why the characters from the Undercity, especially Vi and Powder, absolutely hate the Enforcers which is a huge motivation for both of them, shows their bond and also sets Vander up as a parental figure for both of them. But not only is the scene excellently written and sets everything up pretty much flawlessly, it is also amazingly animated and has incredible music.
Yeah, there's no dialog, but there's the lullaby that Powder is singing that fills in the world as well to help explain what's kinda going on. I thought that was pretty clever. "Dear friend across the river My hands are cold and bare Dear friend across the river I'll take what you can spare I ask of you a penny My fortune it will be I ask you without envy We raise no mighty towers Our home are built of stone So come across the river And find the world below"
Powder's abandonment issues are heartbreaking. You can see it from the opening montage. The acting is phenomenal. Vi is voiced by the same actress who played Kate Bishop in Hawkeye, and Spider-Gwen in Spider-Verse. More amazing: Silco is voiced by the same actor who played goofy Wally in Young Justice. This show is very good at "show, don't tell." Instead of exposition dumps, you learn about the world by seeing characters interact with it. There's one little detail they leave out. Sometime in the past, Piltover and Zaun were one big city spanning an isthmus. The city leaders had an idea to dig a canal right through the city. This would save shipping a long journey around a continent, so they could make a lot of money charging a toll to go through the canal. Digging the canal flooded part of the city and released a lot of pollution. This part is what we now call the Undercity. Residents who want independence call their future nation Zaun. Piltover made lots of money for centuries and never once used those profits to clean up the flooding or the pollution in the Undercity. The opening sequence depicts a failed uprising by the citizens of the Undercity. Piltover and Zaun have a classic colonialist/imperialist relationship. Look up the lyrics of the song Powder was singing in the opening sequence. It further explains the relationship between Piltover and Zaun. The cupcakes in the opening parkour sequence is a great reference to a character you'll meet later. 8:03 "Are they related?" All four of those kids were adopted by Vander on the day of the failed rebellion depicted in the opening sequence. They were all made orphans on that day, and they are the reason Vander is now reticent to start anymore violence with Piltover. Those little crystals are how a sentient species transfers memories to the next generation. It's basically crystalized genocide used to power magic. Blame the mages for figuring out that those things could be used for magical power. Vander's lecture to Vi was really about the guilt he still carries for the failed uprising (which he led) and the fact that so many died under his command. When you pay attention to the animation, notice the micro-expressions on people's faces. There will be one expression that quickly gets replaced with another expression, revealing things about their thoughts and emotions. I know this show is chock full of amazing characters, but wait until you see what becomes of Little Man/Ekko after the time skip. They don't think the air is toxic, it actually is. The Enforcers need masks while the residents don't because the residents are used to it. They grew up in it. Remember: Powder lost her parents at a very young age, so she has abandonment issues. She is utterly desperate to prove her worth to the group for fear of being abandoned again.
The look of the show is very much base on what concept artist did for games and it's really a unique look to have the world and characters match it. Every frame is pretty much a desktop wallpaper. Vander is trying to instill that sense of responsibility as he's probably grooming her to be his protege. My favorite bit of animation in this episode is the look she give Milo to shut up as well. Happy to see new people getting into it. It really deserves ALL the awards.
I don't think Vander was trying to make out that the explosion was Vi's responsibility; it's the fact that she took a job topside at all. To him, no job up there is worth the risk, especially not when it's their first job. It wasn't the results that made him take Vi to task, but the initial intent. I think that's totally on her, and needed to be called out, because she definitely didn't fully realise that.
The issue is Vi is a child. Vander looked a child in the face and told her whatever happens to her younger siblings essentially is her responsibility and that's wack. A child is not responsible for other children. Yes she did something dumb, but Vander is there because she's a child and she cannot be expected to even be responsible for HERSELF fully, that's why minors have guardians. Vander had good intentions but his word choice screwed with Vi's head cause she was a child. You don't say those things to children, an adult might be able to pick out your intentions but a teenager? Especially when she was already upset? And then look how Vi turned out, quite literally blaming herself for everything that happens to the people she loves, why? Because her father told her whatever happens to them is on her.
@@LangkeeLongkeeI mean respectfully he said that not only to a young girl but a young girl that is actively leading her siblings on “jobs” and is quite literally responsible for them. She is team captain which she chooses. Not saying she should be or that I agree with vander bc I actually think he was real abusive and definitely set a bad example for vi
@@pennalopievalentine6604 yes. A young girl who is raised in poverty and surrounded by that sort of thing. What she did was the equivalent of trying to sell substances because the adults around her do. Vander had no issue with the concept of doing "jobs" clearly that in and of itself wasn't the issue. They weren't "ready" and weren't supposed to go to Piltover. And if you don't think Vander is a good example why are you defending him for again, putting the responsibility of her younger siblings on her. Again, Vander did not tell her "if something had happened to them it would have been on you" he said "anything happens to them it's on you" that is continuous. He was not referring to, this bad thing in isolation was your idea so face the consequences he literally told her the thing all older siblings hate but times 2, anything that happens with your younger siblings is your fault cause you're older even if it's not.

So hard to wait, you guys are the best, this show is the best, I don't know how it could be better, I've been waiting for this for months !!! love you guys !
Vander was the leader of the revolt that formed in the Lanes against the Upperside of Piltover. He feels the guilt of guiding others to their deaths and therefor has this deep feel of responsability to take care of the children that became orphans from that fight. When he saw the cost of revolution, he decided to give it up for peace. This is why he gives VI that advice. He's speaking from experience. For him, the path of violence was not worth the cost. VI is just as impulsive as he probably was in his youth and people follow her with the same ease. Hes worried she will make the same mistakes he did and that the other children will get caught in the process. So his intent is to try to talk some sense into her, to make her think about the posible consequences before acting. I dont think he's trying to put guilt in her with his wording. To me its more like he just cant help tying guilt with the idea of responsability because those are the feelings he has. (My first language isnt english, I hope I did a good job explaining what I think about this!)
Literally no one thinks Vander is bad or had bad intentions with that conversation, the point is however his word choice was bad. He shouldn't have said what he said how he said it. No one thinks he's a bad guy but when you're a parent you have to take accountability for certain things. There are parents out there who literally just hate their children, but the majority of people traumatised by their parents didn't have mean or awful parents, their parents had good intentions but intentions aren't enough when you are the basis of another human's formative years.
ultimately, i think what that talk with vander did was put more pressure on vi. she already felt responsible for the others, but after that she started to blame herself for whatever happened to them

Caltrops are spikes you litter on the ground to injure an enemy's feet. Think very sharp jacks. What the enforcers were using to try to catch Vi and company are called bolas. Fancy, steampunk bolas, but still bolas.

it's gonna be weird not seeing she-ra on tuesday but so excited for arcane! honestly you're inspiring me to rewatch this - cannot WAIT for montana's reactions to some parts tho👀
I feel like Vander’s speech could be interpreted as less about the responsibility that Vi should take on when she’s going out on a mission and more about the blame she would put on herself if that were to happen. For instance Montana mentions what happens if they were to go on a mission and somebody blew up the building, I feel like he was saying no matter what would happen even if it was completely out of her control, she would still blame herself for that and needs to think about that when she takes people out, as this will affect her and the long-term
I’m SO happy to see you revisiting this, even better with you and Montana watching it! This is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I hated League of Legends before watching. I hope you both enjoy!
Omg so I started watching you guys in 2020 when you did avater and I watch all of sao then I forgot to check on you guys for a long time I’m so happy your doing this show

Caltrops are spikes you litter on the ground to injure an enemy's feet. Think very sharp jacks. What the enforcers were using to try to catch Vi and company are called bolas. Fancy, steampunk bolas, but still bolas.
This series is just amazing. So excited for you to react to it!!
i will definitely miss your shera reaction vids, but still very happy you guys are starting this show this show is amazing
saaame
That fact Kenny twice stopped watching the show and very excited to see next tge most painful episodes JUST KILL ME
(in aot he watched until episode with sasha and now till episode 3...)
Poor man
10:51 Nope. Caltrops are little spikes that you throw on the ground.
I’m so glad you are reacting to Arcane. Let’s go!
Wait I'm so here for this. You will have a new top 5 shows of all time after this, if not number one. Good luck, I'm here for the journey
Montana: I am so excited this is about sisters. I am an older sister, and I have a younger sister...
Literally everyone:
oof
Oh, I'm so excited for this!
16:46 the face you make when you just want her to listen to the music but she wont stop talking XD
the fact that Episode 3 is on Patreon is going to make me subscribe to your patreon, and Im sorry, its because I already know you will be devastated.
Also every fourth wall break made me crack up laughing. Great video! Can’t wait for more episodes.
18:27
Hey! Vander's VA is Alfred from Beware the Batman.
So happy to see Montana's reaction!
thanks for not making such big cuts in the video. many channels do this and it's so annoying, not everyone can pay for patreon... Loved the reaction
Kenny, your usually so good at predicting the plot but I guarantee you won't be able to on this series as easily, it's pretty unpredictable, Soo excited!
Episode 3 SHOCKED me
Lol wasn’t planning on becoming a patreon member but right when I saw the title i joined before even watching I refuse to wait love you guys 😂
As someone who's watched through the series 4 times and has been trying to get others to as well, the little looks when you're trying not to say anything while she just looks amazed are perfect.
I love this show so glad it’s getting the attention it deserves so many great Netflix shows are underrated and the bad Netflix shows are getting noticed like squid game it’s really annoying that masterpieces go unnoticed while garbage is getting attention
it's been 10 months since the release of arcane season 1 and I've watched so many reactions to it I must have seen the show at least 50 times do you think I'll watch another?
the answer is yes let's go
it's gonna be weird not seeing she-ra on tuesday but so excited for arcane! honestly you're inspiring me to rewatch this - cannot WAIT for montana's reactions to some parts tho👀
LMAOOOO EP 5 🤭🤪🤪
@@hazelcallahanlover i think EVERY scene we see a certain jinx is gonna be funny to see reactions to
Oh my god, I am so excited for yall to be watching Arcane. I love League and I love you guys, this is a bonkers crossover for me lmao.
SHERA AND ARCANE ARE MY TOP TWO SHOWS SO WHEN I FOUND OUT U WERE ALSO WATCHING ARCANE I WAS LITERALLY SCREAMING
4th wall break counter. I love it. Eager to see you guys get further into the season!
Niceee, can't wait to see your reaction to this one
You don’t know how excited I was for you guys to react to this series!!!
I’m SO happy to see you revisiting this, even better with you and Montana watching it! This is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I hated League of Legends before watching. I hope you both enjoy!
Omg yes, I've been waiting for 8 months to see the episode 3 reaction, so stoked it's almost here.
AHH yes can't wait to experience the pain of epesode 3 again 😂
This is gonna be so good!! Almost a year later and I'm still not over this show! Hope you like it, guys!
Same, can't believe it's been a year almost
Ikr!
As a league player, arcane fan and Letts react OG fan, i can tell you guys will love this show!
Omg so I started watching you guys in 2020 when you did avater and I watch all of sao then I forgot to check on you guys for a long time I’m so happy your doing this show
While you guys were admiring the animtion, I had a realization. It would be really cool if y'all reacted to the Arcane 5 part behind the scenes documentary series on the League of Legends UA-cam channel!
when she said zelda i thought she was making a joke lol
Yayyyy, I can’t wait. One of my fav series of all time. And the weapon the enforcer threw in real life would be a Bola. Caltrops is like a field of little spikes
Il always watch an arcane reaction I'm excited to see your guys reaction
this reaction series is gonna be gooood
I am so excited you're watching this! I have been waiting since it came out!
The moment I've been waiting for
Still can't wait for y'all to see "the" scene that reminded me why animation is the true best silent storyteller=]
Does 'the' scene happen to include a bridge and two certain childhood best friends?
@@Marta-uv4id possibly accompanied by a banger, you are correct.
Finallly you guys are reacting to this! Montana will have a blast
Bravo, parfait and worthy of the Chef's 💋, this series animation styles are worth as describing. I love the styles used, CGI, Traditional Animation and Illustration are the three styles used brilliantly.
I am excited for the series!! Can't wait to watch your journey through Arcane :D
Lmao Montana thinking Zelda is same as lol made me roll. Love you guys!
I felt Kenny's pain on another level when she said "Legend of Zelda?" 🤦🏾♀️😅
Soo excited for you guys to react to this show
Watching this for this reaction for the first time and Montana's arson example is just...oh boy...
Finish the opening credits and already at "this is gonna hurt counter:4". Yeah, I remember why I love this show.
You can tell the guy is VERY excited to tell the girl about Arcane, lol. Good commentary
The conversation between Vi and Vandor wasn't about responsibility as much as it was making her realize she was being selfish taking risks
