I really hope Eugene and his dad found peace with each other. I really do. They seemed they broke a lot of boundaries and it really came through this experience.
you should watch the vid of eugene and his dad going to a gay bar together!!! their relationship has progressed really well and it makes me super happy to see it
Ghabrielle Almeida tbh Eugene’s dad wasn’t a bad dad, he just came from Korea in a time where the country was really poor so he had to work much harder to support his family than native born Americans since they had more generational wealth built up, it’s the unfortunate part about moving countries especially to from a poorer one to a rich one. I feel like he would’ve been able to spend more time with his kids when they were young if not for the struggles immigrants face
@imyourdadandim9 whoaaa dude you got a stick in the mud. I dont want to speak against your family because each one are varied in life but i believe people can change

Ngl I started sobbing when Eugene said, "Even though you didn't have a dad, I have a good dad". Especially after hearing how Eugene used to hate his dad, and finally he's able to rekindle their relationship a bit.
Anyone else love how Eugene's dad and mom are divorced but his dad still says nice things about his mom
sometimes you just find that youre better seperate from someone than together, doesnt mean ya have to have bad blood
He seems like a respectful man
That's.... healthy? Like talking bad about someone after a breaup/divorce if they didn't do much bad, then that's just unhealthy.
Edit: just for anyone who sees this, my dad and mom do **not** have this relationship. They are divorced. I know what it’s like to have parents like that.
@@djdog120 it is healthy but its not always the case in divorce. I think the commenter was just appreciating it
@@djdog120 nearly every divorced couple I know talks smack about their exes to their kids. It’s not okay but it happens so often. Of course not everyone does this but it’s so prevalent. It’s something sweet to be pointed out as something to emulate.

I think it was also more how he could relate, as well. I'm glad they did this video too.
"i was an idiot" "i needed to date other people" i wish ned learned that before getting married
I wonder if having two kids did stress their relationship like he feared, but cheating is never ever ever the answer Ned, he really should’ve known better and learned to communicate stronger
That’s 100%!! What I was thinking as well
more like he was a failure as a father and partner since the beginning
If he feared it than that was on him, not the relationship itself. Those are his own insecurities being a husband and dad. If he wasn't ready and scared of having a family then he shouldn't have had one.
@@lilymae7516 Until intense therapy, yeah don't do relationships
Cheating usually has nothing to do with the person being cheated on. It is usually a repeated, pathologized behavior and based on a podcast episode where Ariel basically implied that SHE was the one that Ned cheated with, at one point. The ex who was cheated on somehow got invited to their wedding (!!!) and Ariel had to set a hard boundary about it. Obviously she didn't say all that but it could be easily extrapolated from what she DID say.
Remember this: if your relationship with someone is the result of cheating, just know that they rarely ever stop.
Eugene: I love you dad
Father: Eugene I love you more
Eugene: I love you most
Father: Well, i do more than you
Eugene: It's not a contest, dad
#Classic, my mom and i do that every time we talk. See she had a stroke a year ago and she lost her memory temporarily and it was tough to watch her stare at me and not know who i was. Four months past and i would tell her i love you and she would say "but i don't know you" but now her memory is fully back and she constantly tells me.

Eugene needs to go somewhere with his dad and just talk. The love is there but they don't seem to know each other
I see so much of my relationship with my dad (even if I'm a woman) in theirs... it's insane... and makes it even more emotional...
phatcami I am glad he and his dad are working on their relationship
I dont know why but yeah I think this is an asian thing because I also have a hard time knowing my mom (i was raised by a single mom and she was just recently married)
Well. I was in the same situation when I was like 11. Then there is puberty, in wich I am still, that was just an horrible time for our relationship expecially before I came out as gay.
Then I came out like three days ago and I feel like our bond is getting stronger. I love him much more now.
It's just an Asian thing, both India and china and those places. Kids and parents simply don't talk the same way as in Europe and the west. Sometimes I experience the same thing, even if I am an American born Indian. It's just a way of life. Not great but that's how it is.
Eugene and his dad made me tear up, but I think the part when my tears really kicked into gear was when Zach was thanking his dad and mom for supporting him through his depression.
I'm so happy for him and jealous at the same time because my mom died before she could help me with my depression, and my dad refuses to acknowledge it at all.
I'm sorry about that. Sometimes people don't know how to love. And some family is better to be away from. Please know the horrible times you're experiencing will one day pass and give way to contentment and peacefulness. I hope you have access to therapy and find suitable help. Big hugs or the sign of support you prefer.

It's interesting how Eugene and his dad's life kind of mirror each other as far as being/feeling abandoned. It made me sad that Eugene's dad seemed to feel shame that his parents weren't there, as if it was his fault. I think they both needed this talk. I hope they continue it. It makes me think about reaching out to my dad. We're not close either.
I really think that you should reach out to your dad, because it could be a significant "what if" if you never do it. But do it only when and if you're ready to do so. I'm rooting for you. :)
Shara It's better to try than to have never tried at all. It'll be ok. I'm rooting for you too!
My dad died when I was 6. I will never get the chance to have a relationship with him. You should reach out to your father before you're in the same boat as me.
Shara It's so interesting how these family cycles play out, so obvious from the outside and yet they so often go unnoticed. Their mothers both left at these critical times. It's tragic, but it's also a great place for them to start to build a bond based on empathy. I hope they do.
I'm just so proud of Eugene for really talking with his father.
And can we just take a moment to see how similar are Ned's and Keith's dads to their sons...
It was seeing the red flags Ned may have learned from his dad, and Keith having a better example and being the superior husband.
I mean, "We broke up and dated other people... It wasn't the same."
Eugene's dad backstory:

Fandom Girl i know x) it was really touching
I understand about the "Korean culture" that Eugene was talking about. Even his dad said he want proud about it so he didn't talk but as an Asian, I know that's our culture. Dad in Asian has a big strong imagine. They don't want to show the sad moment or the failure. They are the biggest one in the family. They are in charge of providing for the whole family (no government fund). They need to be strong like steel. They don't say sorry, or love you or hug much. You can see it in Eugene sence with his dad.
We dont know much about our dads or have fun with our dads like people in the West so you guys should feel happy if you has a deep happy relationship with your dad.
Yup.. asian dad's don't show much of their emotion... Sometimes I think that my dad doesn't even love me. But I know that one day I'd fully understand what he's going through.

Eugene’s dad made me cry I feel for him ya know. He didn’t have a father so he didn’t know how to be there for his children but he is still trying to be the best man for them even while going through so much alone
I can relate to him becoz my dad passed away when I was a year old 😞
Eugene took this deep... he was basically the only one not having much fun with his dad, like they..didn’t know each other...
I think they both grew with this experience. They learned, especially Eugene, about each other and the history between them. It's not the same with the other Try Guys and their relationship with their dads. I feel like we got to go to go through this experience with Eugene and learn something really personal.
Most Korean parents as well as Hispanic
Are very old school
They don’t open up much
Or when they do it’s rare ... it’s the way they are raised.
My father was taught that crying and opening up is weakness and pathetic
My mom as well 🤷🏻♀️
Now as a mother I show my daughter so much love and kiss her and squeeze her cheeks and give her so many bear hugs
Something that if my parents do to me it feels uncomfortable even if we give each other hugs now
@@mokiiaanramirez1006 Same as brown parents but my dad and mom were never taught that crying and opening up is pathetic. They just.. dont open up lol
@@mokiiaanramirez1006 A lot of older generation white parents are the same way. I'm 24 , but my father is 61, so he is from a much different time than most of my peers' fathers. It was always different for me growing up, hearing friends and schoolmates recall things there dads had done or said that seemed very foreign to me. Crying was the biggest thing for me growing up, because I remember him always treating it like a bad thing, even with my mother. I remember he would tell her to leave the room any time she got too upset because he didn't want to be around it, so I just learned to preemtively hide it any time I did. He was even more rough on my brother, ten years my senior, when he was growing up, borderline abusive, but I got the older, more mellowed version of my dad. He was always a bit cold with me, emotionally, but I did always know he loved me, because he worked so hard to provide for us. My biggest fear was always being a disappointment to him, so much so that I hid the fact that I started smoking cigarettes at 14 all the way up til a year ago, lmfao. I was 23 years old, frantically giving my fiance my lit cigarettes any time my dad came around, or tossing them so he wouldn't see me with one. 😆😆
I have a daughter of my own now, though, and I love seeing him interact with her. It's the most wholesome and beautiful thing I've ever witnessed. She really opens him up, in a way I don't remember very well. I know he acted similar with me when I was a baby/toddler/small child, always doting on me, but by the time I gained cognitive, long term memory, his behavior had hardened.
But anyway, I've ranted far too long, lol. Sorry about that!
Actually their relationship is quite sweet towards the end of the series. You can see that they actually said i love you to each other and they meant it not just for the video.

It’s funny how that happens but so true!
As someone with an Asian grandfather, every story I can squeeze out is very precious. My grandfather grew up the first few years of his life in the Japanese internment camps during WW2. So naturally, it isn't something he's very keen on sharing or re-living. I've only heard "I love you" two times from him, and I treasure those close. Neither of his kids ( my mom and her brother) EVER heard that from him, he rarely said it to my grandma either. I loved seeing Eugene and his father connect.

I know, lots of people do that when uncomfortable in hugs, and some just do it because they're accustomed to if but I think that's what it is
Isa The Gacha girl gravity falls?
This is a cultural thing. Oftentimes, those who are older than you who give you hugs pat you on the back as a gesture of adoration. It's a nonverbal way of saying "I adore you" or "I love you". Koreans rarely ever say the words "I love you" even to your own child or parents so oftentimes we find other ways to express it without actually saying it directly. It's that passive aggressive nature that we're just born with 🤣🤣🤣
I am now almost 30, my mother said she love me for the first time a couple years ago. The first time she actually embraced a hug that wasn’t responded with Pat Pat Pat was just a couple years ago. It’s very much a cultural thing.
That sir, is the Asian pat
Hearing Eugene’s father say, “It’s my mistake” hit me like a truck. I think about how much I wanted my own father to admit once in his life that he did wrong by me.
I’ll never get that now, and watching this is weird because I feel so disconnected from watching the relationship these four have with their fathers, yet I’m so happy that there are people who do have good relationships with their folks out there.
I just need to say HOW GENTLE the fellas are when shaving their fathers is just incredible. Especially around difficult questions.
"Even though you didn't have a dad..I have a pretty good dad"
mm
I'm cryin now anyone else
Me😭
I'm Not crying, you are!
Me..... 🙋😭😭😭
I almost cried.
I'm still crying :"c
Jae:"are you crying?"
Eugene: "No, are you crying?"
Me: Yes...
Literally me. I'm in floods right now 😭😭
This episode made me cry the entire way. The parts with Eugene and his dad speaking hit home for me and was so relatable it was probably the hardest to watch. Asking if it was OK to hug is exactly what it's like with my own father.
Ned's dad thinks he was an idiot when he was younger, well it turns out he wasn't as much of an idot as his son. He at least didn't cheat on his wife with whom he shared two kids with. He was just young and broke up with his gf, that doesn't necessarily mean he was an idiot.
he was a n idiot, he meant that he was in a long relationship with his gf at the moment, but he broke up with her cuz he was bored (and yeah, instead of cheatying, he was interested in other girls so to prevent to be disrespectful he broke up since he thought he didn't love her anymore, while she was still in love with him).
But yeah Ned elevated the idiotness and added to imbecile levels into high ups, not only to a wife with TWO KIDS, PLUS being into a position of power and putting in risk his friends an ENTIRE COMPANY
Eugene: are you going to fall asleep?
Eugene’s dad: I’m trying....
The savagery is just to much for me
JuJu Bee same lol
JuJu Bee yess
Ok
There was a lot of healing in this video for Eugene and his dad.
@@trinalu7346 No, you're saying it because you want to be in the middle of attention
Jazz Taylor y’all are mean for some reason like chill
@@trinalu7346 please don't waste your time by responding to people like that ever again lol
DigitalEdwin it’s a UA-cam comment why would she try and get attention from that
I thought he didn’t cut him when he shaved him
"Don't feel sorry, that's life." A precious nugget of life lesson from Papa Yang! ❤️
It's gonna resonate with me for a long while ❤️
watching this now 5 years later is so interesting. I worked with Eugene's oldest aunt for a while and she had nothing nice to say about his dad which is so upsetting bc he seems like such a gentle soul under unfortunate circumstances
"i love you dad."
"i love you more."
m y h e a r t i s b r o k e n
jazmien ! *fixed
Is no one gonna talk about how Ned and his dads voice is exactly the same
Writers Block Nah, we talked about that last episode.
we talked about that in EVERY episode
i was looking for this comment
Yes just deeper but the SAME
Writers Block omgggg yesss I waiting for someone to point this out lol
I wish I could talk to my dad the way Eugene talked to his. Maybe when I'm an adult I'll be able to
Good luck to you Andy
Its so scary how Ned, his father and his sister all look so similar-
"I love you dad"
"Eugene I love you more"
"I love you most"
"I love you more than you”
“This is not a contest Dad."
So that's where he secretly gets it from. 😂
Tangled
Dani Setsuko bruh right when i scrolled to this comment that part of the video cam
When? I can't find it.

Ur mom is not so local Thx!
let's face it, eugene and his dad are the stars of this fatherhood series.
Jenny Liu I don't understand
Jenny Liu Eugene is the star of everything
This is more insight into eugene's character than we've seen in the past 3 years. It was really touching and well done.
Ps- everyone should take note- this is what we want from sponsored videos.
Jenny Liu they should start their own drama XD
Jenny Liu true
My mom left when I was 7. I held on to this idea that she actually loved me until I was older and realized she just never should've have kids. Especially now that I have my own. How could any parent leave their child?!?
Mine left when I was 8 a few days before my birthday. It’s a feeling that as a child literally makes no sense and you think mom is gonna come home. I’m 19 now and I fear being like her if I ever have kids.
@@badhabit3830 I’m sure you’ll be a wonderful parents since you experienced what u experienced and know it was wrong and very hurtful, and the fact that you are afraid shows you already care. I hope you are well and not too stressed about that. ☺️
@@crochetbytaylor6865 I would agree with that only I share many characteristics negative with my mother. I share her bad habits without really knowing that I do it, I share her attitude without knowing I did there’s a lot of things that line up with her that is only realized later in life … that scares me
Edit: Reading it back it sounds weird to say that I don’t know that I’m doing it but I truly didn’t until near weeks ago when family members told me that I’m a lot like her and that I also share the same illnesses she has from genetic. A lot of who I am is literally a photo copy of her and I hate that.
eugene's birth dad is fine, his stepfather passed away
Is this his father of his stepfather
Gacha_Hat_ Club his birth dad is in the video
@@kabazinga wow dude that was fast! Thanks
Yeah I still see comments in the golf video where people are saying "RIP APPA UWU 😢😢😢"
Jesus, he's addressing his bio father in that video. This is his bio dad.
Eugene's dad has the most heart breaking life I had ever heard. Sorry, there is a ghost cutting some onions next to my face
Some ghostly onions
I sadly understand Eugene like my dads parents died when he was 8 and 10 and though he had rough times I could not ask for a better dad
Its namjoon cutting onions again
It's really not the saddest, but it is sad
@@lilystic9623 agreed
Besides this series having interesting things to say about fatherhood, I'd also like it to result in a better relationship between Eugene and his father moving forward.
TheMovieMyLife what happened between the two?
TheMovieMyLife that's what I was thinking, since him and his father are so distant and this is making them closer
it's just korean culture and also in most asian cultures that the father works and because of that sometimes misses out of their children's lives. most are closer to their moms instead. also, saying "i love you" isn't really a thing because it's seen as a sign of weakness.
wtf i see u in every byzzfeed comments video
TheMovieMyLife I completely agree I want Eugene and his father to get even closer.
Keith’s dad saying nice things about Becky, just too adorable. 🥹🥹🥹
I'm crying all the tears Eugene didn't cry in this video. And the tender moments between the other guys and their dads just made me even more emotional. They're all such sweethearts ;-;
