Great tips here for painting lights and spray painting anything for that matter. Prep work is critical and if you’re painting inside ensure to have ventilation. Bare feet would be a bit covered in paint, learned that from experience with black spray paint .

Do you know how to tint clear glass shades? I’d like to give mine a warm smokey look, but can’t find any videos on it.
You could use the mod podge method. Try out a couple of color combinations on some empty jelly jars first to get the smokey color your looking for. You combine food coloring with the mod podge and pour it inside the glass and let it coat the entire inside by rotating the mixture inside. Pour the excess out and alow the glue to dry. It creates a transparent tinted film on the glass and looks lovely. I'm sure you could look up some food coloring recipes to find out how many drops of certain colors will create greys or brown-ish grey tones and you can simply add those recipes to the mod podge for testing on the jars before deciding which to use on your shades. That way you are also able to properly measure and recreate the mixture so you can replicate it should you need to make several batches. Hope that's helpful! Sorry for the novel 😅
