    So many singers fabricate a stylized voice to be distinctive. Regina sings with her unaffected authentic distinctive voice and she is all the more compelling for her honesty.

    I'm so glad Regina doesn't involve politics in her music. Yet I find it interesting that when the host tried to bait her she proceeded to talk about her family and childhood in Soviet Russia and how oppressive things are in Communist/Socialist countries, but at the same time says she was depressed after the US elections of 2016 after we elected a man who is the antithesis of Marxism and communist ideology. But I love how she expresses the need for individualism within the culture instead of the identity politics of grouping individuals together, as the Democrat party and communist regimes advocate for, based on various criteria such as race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. to divide people within a society to better control them in every aspect of their lives. Maybe one day she will put 2 and 2 together as she gives more thought to the political realm and world affairs and understand what really makes America the shining city on the hill where her parents left behind a world of fear and oppression and starvation of the once powerful, communist/socialist, and deadly soviet empire. Until then, I will continue to enjoy listening to my most favorite music artist in the world, Regina Spektor.

    Wow. That was about 20 minutes of music and a 30-minute interview.
    I cared about every second of it. She has so much soul not only in her music, but in her words. Kudos to KEXP for showing both sides of artists who put so much into not only their work, but everything they do.

    I used to think she was just a hipster's wet dream that would disappear right along with the Zoey Deschanel fetish, but recently gave her another listen and learned some fucking manners. She's got to be one of the most talented artists of all time. Her musicianship is well above average and her lyrics are so unique, penetrating, nuanced, and diverse in subject matter. I so often find myself wondering what she's been through, what her childhood and teenage years were like, and how much must be going on in her mind at all times. Grand Hotel & The Trapper and the Furrier are so dark in a peculiar way and I'm so glad she played them. Goddamn.

    I keep seeing, "This isn't the Old Regina I fell in love with. She's so commercial now. I miss her old anti-folk stuff." I think people are forgetting that Regina is on a Warner Bros label now, and while she still has creative control, things are gonna be a little different. I don't attribute this album's more straightforward songwriting style to her "selling out". Regina just got married, had a baby, and returned to the mothercountry she hadn't seen since she was young. Cut her some slack, don't judge so much, and just listen to what Regina is telling you. She still has some beautiful songs here, and really intriguing melodic and rhythmic moments within them. In 'Older and Taller' when she sings "Enjoy your youth/sounds like a threat" and claps like Old Regina did, really reminds me why I keep coming back. And "Trapper and the Furrier"? Pssh. What Old Regina? This IS Regina. "Remember Us to Life" is her most revealing, autobiographical album yet. Don't like it? Go listen to Pavlov's Daughter on a loop and shut up.

      Remember Us To LIfe is actually my favorite album of hers. It`s melancholic and hopeful. It`s sad and happy. It`s incredibly personal, displaying some her best songwriting, and the beautiful production suck me in to the "universe" of this album every time I play it. I could talk about Remember Us To Life all day haha.

    • @manuelrecondo5525
      @manuelrecondo5525 6 років тому +6

      In my opinion, Remember us to life is the most personal album that she has. It represents her career as an artist, and i think she is getting to the point. Unfortunately, not everyone like it, but is probably because she is not doing pop songs as she did in the last albums (a lot of people dislikes 11:11 too, and its so genuine). Far is an album of and inspired artist, this album is herself, as she is, u can disagree, but that is how she feels and its in the songs, she is not trying to show us the image of a popstar, she is a human being, thats why i love it and its probably my favourite. Obsolete is the key to understand this album, she was probably not being comfortable with the consequence of her songs and tried to do something different. And she made it.

      The grand hotel and trapper and the furrier are very "controversial" lyricly speaking. In her songs it is always that: her beautiful voice kind of innocent in contrast with well written deep and sometimes pretty dark lyrics.
      Like Dance anthem of the 80's which is a good example

      Everything that came before Live in London is pretty much perfect, but with WWSFTCS came what I call Regina Superband and, just like that, I couldn't enjoy it any longer. For me, Regina was always about her, the piano, and a good story being told. Somehow I didn't fell this with the new albums. This KEXP audition is what the new albums would sound like if done like the first ones, and I couldn't help but find it infinitely better.

      It's easy to play piano with your eyes closed. Your fingers are moving according to the spaces between the notes, after a while you just "feel" how to move your finger to where the next note has to be without looking. Pretty much the same as playing guitar with your eyes closed, I don't have any trouble doing that unless I've recently switched between a short scale and full scale guitar and my fingers have to re-learn the new fret spacing.

    "I think when something like this happens you can't just throw your hands up and just you know...give up. You have to start to start doing the things that like my piano teacher did. We have to start reaching out to people in our community and you could say ok, I couldn't get this person elected that reflects my beliefs and my principles and what I want in the world but I can reflect them myself. Oh you want to be so giving and so help with equality and help well...help mentor a young girl. Help her feel not like she won't stand a chance, help her not feel the glass ceiling. Don't just sit there retweeting things or clicking or talking in this vacuum and saying the same thing or complaining. Don't give the airspace and say "oh did you hear what the crazy man said today?'. We could spend four years like that just being like 'could you believe it?'. I mean, every day its: 'could you believe it?'. I can't, but its happening so like ok now and so its just we have to start doing the good stuff like um, reaching out, changing somebodies life. Whats going to comfort them in ten, twenty years, thirty years? So you know doing the slow build. So thats my hope."

    Did any of the commenters here actually listen to the interview? What she said? The choice of words? How informed? How thoughtful? How articulate (in a second language too)? How profound, funny, generous and humble?
    The interview alone is worth the time, several times over.

      pvandck The entire thing just blew me away. She's so kind and humble besides amazingly talented. I think she reflects what those important people in her life gave her.

    Sounds much better here than the album. The album is over produced. Regina just needs a piano and a mic.
