Summer of 1958, we travelled from Newcastle Central to Kings Cross hauled by that locomotive. Fantastic!

I love the A4’s truly the best steam locos (in theory, the 800’s could be the A7’s and 8’s?

Why'd they put that bit on the back of the coal cart it kinda ruins it.

Do you mean the corridor connection on the tender?

@@class50thrasher it's a corridor tender. It connects to the coaches to allow crew changes on the move etc. There's a narrow corridor inside the tender on the right hand side, where the round window is.

@@class50thrasher Do you even know why corridor tenders were invented in the first place? Gresley came up with the idea so crew changes could occur without the need to stop the train. It was proven successful and basically all of Gresley's A1s (later A3s) and A4s had gained a corridor tender by the time The War had begun. Corrider tenders were in use for up to 40 years before being withdrawn with steam in 60s..

Why is it impossible to get a platform ticket and you have to grovel to a member of staff to get on the station...privatised GWR shite... Great day down there i would say tho
