I recently bought a cartwheel penny. Even though it’s in poor condition, I am proud to own one.
same!!
I just love this coin and consider mine one of my collection favorites. It is indeed a good coin to draw people to numismatics
It really is a beauty! Really makes non-numismatic people interested that’s for sure 😊👍🏼
I’ve been wanting one of these for ages! Love the design and the sheer size of it reminds me of the Russian 5 kopeks from the 1700’s
Do it! 😁
Thanks Luke. I really enjoyed that video. I have lower grade Cartwheel penny but a very nice Twopence that I bought a few years ago in Gloucester. It really is a heavy coin.
Thanks Winston! Even better you found it in Gloucestershire as it’s very local to me 😊
Love the cartwheel 2d I have a couple of these myself
Lovely big chunks aren’t they ☺️
@@TheHammeredCorner it’s why I want one, really.
This video actually made me think, 'I really need one of these coins' and I went out searching on Ebay, until I found one listed as a one pence, but it showed photos of the thick edge and I immediately knew it was a twopence, so I bid on it and won, so now I'm expecting to get a "hockey puck or dinner plate" in my mail.
If you don't mind my asking, how much did you buy it for?
Oh it was an auction by the way
@Chuck and Lucy Oh cool! I thought it was an auction seeing as you said you bid on it, but it's good to get confirmation.
Excellent Chuck, what did you think of it when it arrived? 😁
@@TheHammeredCorner Oh gosh! Sorry I'm responding so late!!! It was magnificent, very nice example, and it cost only £15 (shipping was about £5) so overall VERY cheap. I wish I could send a photo of it, but I don't think I'll need to, considering it was similar to yours. Mine just had a slightly lighter colour, less edge knocks, but several more scratches, deep ones too!
I love these coins i have one in similar condition which i bought for £42 last year
Very nice Ethan, reasonable price too!
I do have one. I love it. They are so chunky.
I've seen gilded versions of these coins and they are quite impressive. Just as it was w/ this coin, the Morgan silver dollar had the same problem, and many of those either rested in bank vaults for generations, or were melted for bullion value. Although I can't imagine carrying such a large copper coin of low denomination in my pocket... imagine making change w/ these coins in circulation!
The guilted ones are beautiful! What I would do to hold one 😁
Seems more like a small blunt weapon than a coin! Very impressive!
HUGE! 😝😂
I love this coin. Super cool design. Subscribed !!!
what an absolute beast! made to prevent counterfeits I think as the value was the same as the value of the metal. Also there is a cartwheel half penny but you would be lucky to find one of those! I am glad we don't have coins like that these days 😂
People would defo he walking slower that’s for sure 😂
I have a nice penny version one that my dad gave me for Christmas. Very nice two pence!
Thanks mate! Lovely of your dad to get you one and what a great gift that is 😁
Awesome video (and channel, just recently discovered it)! These are amongst some of my favourite coins, they're just bizarre and unique. I like them that much I own 9 cartwheel pennies myself, some aren't in the best condition but most are as good as the one pictured here :). There's also an isle of man version! It has the three legs symbol on the back, I can imagine it is very rare as I've only ever seen one for sale before and it was like 300 quid.
Thank you matey! Owning 9 is pretty awesome, bet you wouldn’t be able to walk keeping them all in one pocket 😂 and I learned about the Isle of Man one after I made the video, they’re a great looking coin!
@@TheHammeredCorner Yeah! Can you imagine trying to count out even £1 in them...would need a horse and cart to bring them along lol. I don't know how they stored them in banks and such either, seems a massive hassle.
thanks for the Information
nice, I am also looking for one, but it is hard to get one without big edge nicks
Very true! Top grade examples fetch a hefty sum
It looks very good for a more than 200 year old copper coin
It really does!
I've wanted one of these for a long time. I might buy one in poor condition just to say I have it.
That’s what I did.
They’re incredible, get one!
@The Hammered Corner I'll sure try!
Now achieved 😁
I`ve got a very nice 1 and 2 penny cartwheel
How much did you get that for?
Whats the best way of cleaning one of these, i have one from 1799 but its quite faded, or dirty
How dirty is it? If it has loose dirt, then take it off, but if it's just patina then don't artificially clean it. I'll try and find a good video for you.

This video is for silver coins, so be careful and don't overdo it.
Thanks, its just very dark, not sure whether thats dirt or not
You're welcome. The darkness is probably just because it's oxidised which is extremely common on copper coins. I wouldn't worry, because I'd say approximately 85% of coins that age are that dark. If there's no loose dirt, I'd say that you don't need to do anything to that coin. Glad to help. If you've got any more questions, ask away. I can't promise I'll have the answers, but I'll do my best.
That’s not a hammered coin 😂😂😂
As the narrator said, it was produced by a steam-powered press.
😆👍🏼
