Carbon Fiber Filament - IS IT REALLY THAT USEFUL?!

  • Carbon fiber filament is formed of carbon fibers, which are mixed with a thermoplastic referred to as the base material. There are plenty of various filaments that can be bought with carbon fiber parts including PETG, PLA, ABS, and Nylon filament.
These fibers alone are extremely strong, and after we mix them with the base material we cause the filament to increase in stiffness and strength, and also reduce its overall weight.

Absolute stunning stuff, I also use it for demanding tasks on my 3D printer 👍

Ofcourse, just make sure your nozzle is abrasion resistant and hardened. :)

0:29 is there a recommended temperature for printing inside the enclosure? (PA CF)

You used carbon fiber PETG for the motorcycle exhaust cap? Or nylon?

  • @3DNordic

printed end cap for exhaust from PETG-CF? it will melt quite fast. Usually for PETG or PETG-CF filaments the max heat rezistance its between 70⁰C-90⁰C. Definitely wont work as a exhaust end cap. Not even PA-CF whould withstand for this purpose. There is a reason why the original parts or OEM are made from Titanium or Carbon Fiber.

      This isn't cf-PETG. It's cf-PET

How large are the chopped carbon fiber particles? Really interested in this material, but concerned about the hazard of inhalation of carbon fiber particles

Shouldn’t the fibers remain suspended in the filament? Maybe wear a mask if you are planning on breaking anything for testing. This is a good question and one I have not yet considered.

Carbon fiber is VERY dangerous when cut or sanded so please don’t take any risks with it, print outside
