  • "The Doctors" is a medical show on ABC focusing on unusual medical marvels as well as the most up-to-date medical advancements and technology.
Lisa Shook from Ringgold first wrote in about her daughter Layla in December. Layla was born with Apert's Syndrome and a Cloverleaf skull. Her condition is extremely rare. Doctors say there are only 130 reported cases in the United States.
She has had 50 procedures, three of which were major skull surgeries performed by Dr. Larry Sargent at Children's Hospital at Erlanger. He essentially had to break her skull to open it, which relieves pressure on her brain. Dr. Sargent also reconstructed her entire forehead and brow.
He uses 3-d printing and the procedure is the latest advancement in craniofacial surgery
"Dr. Sargent is a miracle. We would not have Layla without Dr. Sargent

WAY TO GO DOCTOR SARGENT! I'm so thankful for you! You did my son's Sagittal Craniosynostosis surgery in 2005! My son is now going to be 20 in October! I thank you and Dr. Strait for saving his life! I owe you both everything!❤
