NATO's tiny but mighty frontline economies | Business Beyond

- Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania collectively share a more-than 1000-kilometre-long border with Russia and Belarus. Having regained their independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union some three decades ago, these three small countries have developed innovative and business-friendly economies. But as the war in Ukraine drags on, their position - right on NATO`s frontline with Russia - once again leaves them facing an existential challenge. In this edition of Business Beyond, we zoom in on three industries: cybersecurity, energy and defense, and assess how the Baltics have responded to and adapted their economies in the face of Russian aggression. From cyber attacks on critical infrastructure to eliminating dependence on Russian gas and preparing for a possible invasion, this is the story of how three nations are fighting for their future on several fronts.

I have visited Lithuania 7 times, and have been to Riga and Tallinn...Fantastic places, fantastic people! Respect and peace to the Baltic states! 🇮🇪🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹👍🍻
Thanks Kate for this informative presentation. Best Regards to my Latvian and Estonian brothers from Lithuania!
It's refreshing seeing the Baltics represented as the sober realists they have been all along, as opposed to the alarmists they were accused of being for so many years.
Me too. I'm ashamed to have barely even known they existed before the war. Now they are the only people talking sense about the war... ( or rather always have, I just wasn't paying attention)
I would say that any country that supports NATO troops fighting in Ukraine, supports NATO troops defending any non-NATO countries simply asks for trouble (including my very own Poland). The only countries that they should keep defending should be NATO countries and ONLY those. I would be ashamed of Poland's interference in Ukraine if the direct war with Russia will ever break out. What's the point of risking it all and trying to save a non-nato country with billions of dollars of our aid if that very same country keeps calling you "Moscow's friend". There is no point!
@@kacperzimowski4626 Nobody is talking about sending nato troops to Ukraine. Its about not showing your hand to the damn enemy. Why would you tell Putin you aren't going to do something when you can keep him guessing, the way he always keeps us guessing? Thats why he drives the war and we can only respond. All we do is talk about what we wont do. If we started talking about what we might do.... he might have to double think things before pressing go.
@@kacperzimowski4626 `You just dont see the point. If NATO would not defend Ukraine from the start, Russia would have +50million population , which they would probbably could be used for war against NATO. You are very short view men, put the glasses on!

@@samsungqled1167 pool Baltic countries they forgot who and which country saved them from The USSR.
When USSR tanks and soldiers were sent to crush the pro-independence movements in the Baltic countries in January 1991, Boris Yeltsin, then the Chairman of the Russian SFSR (RSFSR), flew to Tallinn, Estonia, to save these small countries from being overrun by the Soviet army.
Despite the apparent danger, Yeltsin arrived in Tallinn and signed a joint declaration with his Estonian counterpart affirming the inalienable right to national self-determination.
While still in the country, Yeltsin met with Soviet troops stationed there and urged them to disobey the Soviet leadership if ordered to move against peaceful demonstrators.
Moreover, when hardline Communist Party leaders attempted a coup against Gorbachev in August 1991, it was the Russian population who flocked to the streets of Moscow and protected the White House, Yeltsin's office, from being attacked by Soviet tanks to prevent the military from arresting Yeltsin.

Where is Russia geographically compared to the United States? Much further away than European nations. And yet who has contributed more than $75 billion? The United States.
