  • Breaking down the fifth episode, titled "Transport", of the new Don't Hug Me I'm Scared TV Show, the show exclusively airing on Channel 4 based on the hit web series brought to us by Becky Joan and Joe Pelling.
Don't Hug Me I'm Scared is a British surreal horror series created by Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling. The original web series consists of six episodes, released from 29 July 2011 to 19 June 2016 through the artists' website, UA-cam, and Vimeo. The series combines segments in live action, puppetry, traditional animation, flash animation, clay animation, and computer animation.
Each episode starts like a typical children's series, consisting of anthropomorphic puppets akin to those featured in Sesame Street and other popular children's television programmes. The series parodies and satirizes these TV programmes by contrasting this childlike, colourful environment and its inhabitants against disturbing themes; each episode features a surreal plot twist in the climax, including psychedelic content and imagery involving graphic violence, dark humour and existential and psychological horror. The six episodes explore and discuss the subjects of creativity, time, love, technology, diet, and dreams.
In 2020, it was announced that Don't Hug Me I'm Scared will be airing on Channel 4 as a television series on 23 September 2022.

Has anyone noticed that the teachers methods are different from the UA-cam series?
In the UA-cam series the teachers give contradictory and blatantly wrong advice.
Meanwhile the tv series teachers give the right advice but they either don't follow their own advice ( Twins, warren the eagle) or are unable to ( coffin, the train, the robot)

Film theory's theory on season 1 (web show) included that it was funded by Roy and that also meant they did advertisements.
Like how the Flintstones advertised cigarettes, dhmis's first season advertised things that weren't good. I can remember the food episode off the top of my head, where healthy food was suddenly bad for you but the specific brand of food was healthy and good for you. Wouldn't make your teeth go grey.
This season felt more like an actual kids' show, but that nothing was going right. Like they started learning the lesson of the episode but then got sidetracked by the reality of the lesson and couldn't accept it.
Episode 1 for instance, has the briefcase say they can have all sorts of jobs, but then they get stuck in a dead end job they never wanted to begin with for the rest of their "life".
Episode 2, they started to learn the concept of death but then backtracked and neither really accepted it, yellow guy literally bringing duck back while red forced someone else to fill the role for them.
Episode transport, they were all able to get excited about traveling, but ended up in a not great place because they didn't prep for it and kept ignoring the literal signs telling them to stop. If they had just sat through the lesson, they could have been satisfied, but they didn't and tried to apply their half knowledge to the "real" and later real world

@@catelynh1020 Now that you mention it, it does feel like a kid's show gone wrong, namely how reality isn't as clean as we presented them to children. Yeah, there's a whole world of potential jobs out there, but we don't exactly tell kids about actual work life aside from "I turn bits into parts". Family's nice and all, but, at least when I was growing up, we don't really talk about family outside of those by blood. There are less obvious ways in which someone can disrespect us, even if they are a friend. Death is a constant factor of life and we need to learn how to cope with it. Transportation is cool and all, but where are we going and why? Are we even prepared? So much gets left out when these concepts are explored in children's media, at least in my experience.

And the last episode, yellow guy's personality seems far too mature and learned. Did he learn all that through the endless repetition of the teachers here? Or was he mature in life? Perhaps maybe a little mentally r(censored), but otherwise a full grown adult who winds up getting bald. Still perhaps simple enough to chase a bird into the street and get run over, but not a child.

I like to think Time Child really was a random event out of Lesley's control considering the 3 never learn of him even existing so he doesn't really work as a punishment for staying home, also he mentions a 6th dimension that I believe would be above Lesley even farther up then the stairs leading to the 5th floor. So if they just stayed Time Child would have taken them all to a plain higher than her's.

My theory about the rooms of episode 6, and the episodes true “lesson”. Spoilers bellow & copied from my Reddit post.
Episode 6 in my opinion, while being titled “Electricity”, has very little to do with it. So if that’s the case, what could it be about? Well, in my opinion, the story of episode 6 is about Knowledge. Let me explain through the rooms.
The Ground Level - The ground level with our main trio is very basic. It represents the blind ignorance of learning that we are accustomed to. The trio are told what is and isn’t true and are forced to accept it as fact as they are “not as knowledgable” as their supposed “teachers”. I think that’s the most basic to explain since we are used to the concept of how the ground level trio learns.
The Big Boys Room - This is where we start to go into higher levels of “learning”, although they are extremely flawed. The Big Boys room is the Honors level class approach to learning, where they still learn the same information, they learn more at a quicker place. They are more knowledgeable by the nature of them learning more, but it doesn’t change how factually wrong their information is.
The Bigger Boys Room - The final level with another trio has the idea of study. Instead of being spoon fed information, they test it out themselves to learn. That is all it is though, learning. They spend the day testing trying to KNOW more, but they don’t UNDERSTAND any more than the levels bellow.
Lesley’s Room - The final room represents true understanding. Lesley contains all the information we wish to know, but just how yellow guy loses his batteries and shreds it, we are ignorant to true understanding, and ignorant to our own ignorance. He represents how we can never know if we don’t truly understand something.
I hope that all makes sense, I’m kind of just throwing this all together after thinking about the finale.

There is so much social criticism in this episode as well. It is about how we treat the nature. The Train is extremely dirty and spills oil. Also the train is sick, because of the damaging oil. This little TV series about the man and the dog tells about global warming and the uneven distribution of water in the world.

He even proceeds the scream about how he’s not coming back to that house. As if it was a toxic place. My small theory is that Roy ended up taking custody of David and at their new home David got hit by a car which is why Leslie resents him so much. my personal theory on this series, spoilers ahead
it's actually the continuation that was shown at the end of episode 6 from the original youtube series, except they made a few changes to the reboot to better represent the original show, Lesley isn't the creator or mastermind of the series, but rather a new director put in charge of the reboot, as she grew up with the original series
that's why she says that yellow guy was "always" her favorite, cause she grew up watching him, it may also be why red guy seems more aware of the story he's in, cause he did get out in the original and lived in the outside world for a bit, it would also explain why he adapted so well into the "business management" role in the first episode

  • @Sansdancelmao
    @Sansdancelmao 2 роки тому +21

Each character plays a significant role in the plot, the red guy is the one who is logical, always pointing out the obvious and trying to get away until he gets reset in episode 6, the duck, is the one who stops all of the lessons from happening, (apart from episode 5 since that was mostly a red guy episode) He stopped the mess in episode by opening the suitcase, he killed the original duck in episode 2, putting it back to normal, he's the first one to get kicked out and realized what was wrong in the 3rd episode, He took the worm out of yellow guy's head in 4, killing it, he attempted to stop red guy from leaving in episode 5, (he failed tho), and he took out the batteries of yellow guy, causing him to shred all the answers he had, Yellow guy, is obviously as stated, leslies son in puppet form, when he puts his batteries in he switches with other him, going up into the rooms see the "other ones, and tiny little one" getting the book and then having his batteries taken out by the duck, causing him to shred it. Red guy doesn't do anything since as another commenter said, leslie can only bring yellow guy back, so he left the og red guy and the "og" duck, in the dump, which is why red guy just watches.

My personal theory for this episode is that Leslie saw that red guy was considering leaving so she quickly threw together a lesson about transport to show that they couldn’t leave, which is why it’s incredibly disorganized and just rambling about transport, and when the car died she expected red guy to just give up and move on with the intended lesson which was the time child, but due to red guy actually escaping they all escaped her grasp until she eventually caught up with them in the end and brought them back home

My god this is refreshing, you just casually drop the connection that yellow remembers how David is dead in a four minute analysis comparing information through citation instead of pausing for five minutes yelling about the truth finally being revealed and then regressing into recapping everything we already know up to this point step by step. Like yeah, David is dead, let me think about that for a sec…
    Ok I thought about it.

This is just my interpretation, but I don’t think Leslie took them home, I think she just replaced them with backups.

It all makes sense now Roy represents Davids dad and basically he left David and Leslie for TV commercials or branding because Leslie was struggling to provide for her kid when they were playing outside she wasn’t paying attention and David got hit by a car causing Leslie to go into a downward spiral and make dhmis as a way to cope with her insanity but some of that insanity leaks out into the show
