From the start this feels like a traditional folk song, which I guess every folkie has to have in their repertoire. It reminds me of people like Richard Thompson. It even replaces the 80s production with 70s Hammond organ and piano. It might have been another one from her high school songbook.
It's a metaphor, rather than a story, I think, and I loved the song, but then, I'm a writer, poetry translator, and avid reader, so I can imagine this would not be your thing at all. May I say, though, that I love the honest reactions. So much more interesting than the channels where the reactor pretends to like everything as a way to get more engagement.
Oh man, I absolutely love this song but I knew we were in trouble here before even watching, this is probably her most lyrical track. 😂 I would mention it’s not a fantasy thing though, the king/queen thing is metaphorical. But yeah anyone not into lyrics is gonna be turned off by this one.
Well! This being a lyric driven song, we knew how you’d react, and yet, all our lives are stories. Maybe snippets, maybe chapters. It’s just what stories are. Beethoven String Quartet op. 135. Mozart Don Giovanni opera. Dvorak Cello Concerto. Carpenters Goodbye to Love lyrics and music-especially the guitar solos. They’re all stories. So is yours.
A very honest reaction and what it should be. I like the lyrics painting a picture, story, or meaning. That's me I was raised on Rush lyrics what can you say. If your Neil then you love lyrics, but I think most drummers and bass players care for the music and rhythm first. But then I might be talking crap😂 after all I'm a guitarist 😂😂😂🤘👍
Yep, that was not unexpected. 😂 It's my daughter's favourite, but she literally writes fantasy novels, so you know. Not in my top three from the album, but I do still like it. It's basically a fairytale vignette being used as a metaphor you can take in a few different ways, most clearly about a failed relationship with a dodgy power imbalance. But yeah, no song (or other work of art) is for everybody - I'm a scifi geek who doesn't like Star Wars, for instance.
I don't like lyrics, I don't like fiction. I don't watch movies. How the hell did you make it this far with Vega then? I mean, that is a serious question. It's her lyrics and delivery of such that is almost the only thing. (And no, don't read that as a thumbs down. Thumbs down is for comments that are not relevant to the topic nor continue the conversation. I don't want to be either of those and I of course assume you don't either if you're posting something so forthright. People really need to get their ethics clear regarding upvoting and downvoting things, even on UA-cam).
@@JustinPanariello Wonder how I came up with that reply then? But I will take a deeper look of course. I quote you and you just say I'm not listening to you. Odd. Like I said I will take another look as your musical insights are great. I just don't understand why Vega? It's literally her strength, the things you don't relate to.
@ sorry. Youre right. I did say all the things in that first sentence. I guess my question is have you only seen my Vega video for The Queen And The Soldier? Have you seen Institution Green? Or others off this album?
@@JustinPanariello Okay I finished your reaction to Queen and the Soldier and I'm actually in your camp for the most part in terms of this particular song. There was a time when I was maybe 14 or 15 when I found the lyrics to this really deep but now it's just a waltz with a bit of a hamhanded lyrics. The kind of thing, if I were talented enough, I'd make up to sing kids I was babysitting to sleep. It isn't really that great lyrically and overall doesn't really compare to 1/2 the other songs on the album. So, well, whew, glad I agree with you. Your revulsion to the genre is amusing however. I feel like we need to keep pushing you into reviewing more and more metaphor-heavy singer-songwriter things until you assplode. How about Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush?
Yeah, that's this album's weakest song also in _my_ opinion. Gives me 'Romeo Save Me' - Taylor Swift vibes. And I too dislike it mostly for the lyrics combined with their delivery; There are others who do it better, like Joni Mitchell. But hey, I can't really complain about there being only 1 not-so-great song on the whole album! 😄

Thanks !
Yeah its just not generally my thing, especially on first listen.

Yep. I knew this was going to be thumbs down- but I’m glad to see 3 or 4 commenters praising your honest reaction 😁

Interesting! I'd never been into 'Star Wars' either and have always liked 'Star Trek' and also 'Battlestar Galactica' way better 😀
Bullshit. You must b dead inside if you dont't like this song

@ ive done Kate Bush albums. And Wuthering Heights. Thats what im saying… i dont have an aversion to the style/genre of music at all.
Finally, a honest reactor. These kind of lyrics are more like about human nature, than about actual story - i guess.
This one has always been a pass for me.
