    Thank you for explaining things in steps...gradually guiding us to our essential nature. I imagine being taught like Jesus the Christ would have guided us...sometimes even answering a question with a question..and then relating a parable or an example to guide us back to I Am.

    But if we remove all thoughts, feelings and sensations, all the contents of awareness, what is left? With nothing to be aware of, is there still awareness?
    It seems to me that the mind is a kind of mirror, usually dirtied by its ability to mirror itself but when clean, a mirror that allows the universe to 'see' itself. Like the mirror (or any artwork), the image is an ilusion, but a necessary one for this knowing to take place. The essential I is neither the reflection, nor that which is being reflected, but the circular flow of infinite information engendered between them.

    As long as you BELIEVE that matter gives rise to Awareness, you will not understand Rupert. Please read:
    We KNOW that matter is made of atoms, which are made of quarks and electrons, these are in turn made of... ? It keeps getting tinier and tinier until we get to what we may call "inmaterial" or what ultimately gives rise to everything. So this "inmaterial" does not need to be IN MATTER to exist. It already exists and may or may not give rise to matter. It is matter which depends on it to exist since it is FORMED FROM IT. Awareness, Love, Will are all aspects of such "inmaterial world". They indeed exist, but in our modern science, they wud be considered as "inmaterial." Maybe we cud say that they possess a different and more subtle kind of materiality b/c really, in order to exist they must have some sort of substance or being. They cannot be "nothing." Hope this helps.

    How does one (body/mind) recognize or realize without having a mind???? The "I" is the precursor to body/mind, of course. I would guess that the "I" is the KNOWING. The thing that is hard for us body/mind/ego selves is the attempting to phantom how in the world can there be knowing without a mind involved (which is our processing center) ... that is the stump I find myself tripping on in attempting to comprehend. Subtle like a huge boulder flying.

    • @josephoutward
      @josephoutward 2 роки тому

      Minahh, were you ever able to remove or sidestep the "stump" you spoke of 6 years ago?

    • @bam2385
      @bam2385 Рік тому +1

      @@josephoutward "how can there be knowing without a mind involved"
      The stump is the mind trying to figure out how can there be knowing outside itself (mind). It's like a cloud asking how can there be a sky without a cloud. It's not possible to know this with the mind.
      For example is it your experience that you cease to exist when a thought disappears in your mind?
      So if there was no knowing without a mind you would have to admit that you aren't aware when a thought disappears. Don't think about this it's needs to be seen clearly.
      Even nature gives us a hint of this experience every night in deep sleep. In deep sleep there is no mind, no thoughts no senstions no objects. Yet do you admit you don't exist in deep sleep?
      That can't be the case as you wouldn't be able to say "I slept well" when someone asks you.
      So you were knowing in deep sleep without the mind although this was still in ignorance. It needs to be seen in the waking state.
      You are looking for what you are looking from. Ponder this

    • @josephoutward
      @josephoutward Рік тому

      @@bam2385 hello, the old line about "how you know if you slept well" is easily explained. So are the other "questions" you asked. I have practiced for three years with little to no results except lower blood pressure. Any and all meditation practices are good for stress relief. To suggest anything else is just fantasy, or as I like to call it mental masterbation.

    Sounds like the body is just a puppet whose master is called Awareness and this puppet has no real life or anything w/o being activated by---used by-- Awareness for its own purposes. As you have said the Awareness needs the puppet to enjoy--experience the world. Which is what?
    A terrible view of the magnificent body and mind of the human being. So it is temporal--finite. Just adds to the drama.

    I can absolutely grasp that a state prior to the arrival of the ego/separate self is just awareness. I am still confused on how this awareness exists beyond the body.
    Like, even if scientific evidences actually supports nondualism - everything is interdependent and interconnected, and all acts of division start specifically from thought - the evidence supporting awareness beyond death is a strong claim.
    Awareness before identification with thought and emotion, creating the me? Correct.
    Awareness existing beyond the five senses? I cannot wrap my head around this, but if someone like Sam Harris says this, I am inclined to believe it.
    Awareness beyond death? That is the mystery. Not even people like Alan Watts, who talked about the world being nondual and there being no ego, made no such claims.

    • @gswhipkey1
      @gswhipkey1 7 років тому +2

      Hello! "Awareness beyond death is a strong claim" - that part seems easy to me; you and I witness things die throughout our lives; pets die, relatives die, friends die, and yet we continue living (awareness continues); we take it as a common fact that, when one thing dies, the rest of the world continues living, right? We can then assume that after our bodies pass away, awareness will continue, but it will be aware of itself through other life forms than this current body. As far as trying to wrap your MIND around this - I don't think that's possible, because the mind by definition is a finite thing, and the reason you can't get your mind around it is because the mind by its nature CANNOT understand it, because infinity (awareness) is true infinity, and the mind wants to get it into an understandable, logical, neatly wrapped little "box." Further, the mind can witness others passing away, and can understand that awareness continues, but it cannot understand the experience of awareness continuing AFTER the mind itself passes away, because that is the mind trying to imagine its own nonexistence, which is impossible.
      And actually, I believe Alan Watts does point to this phenomenon when he says things such as, "you wake up and you realize you never die" or "you realize you are God." Eckhart Tolle also often says "death is an illusion." Awareness is the eternal "it" or "source" - the bodies which express awareness pass away and are born again, over and over.
      This is only my understanding, and I have no idea if it's misguided, but I hope it's helpful.

    I’m not buying Rupert’s insistence that Awareness can’t experience itself as the body. He’s perceiving limitations and making distinctions that his point of perception iz the absolute truth. He has A truth and all truths comprise the ultimate truth. He doesn’t seem to re-cognize he iz using thoughts to describe what iz actually indescribable and cannot be contained with just any one concept. All perspectives are valid including his. They are just different aspects of the One Infinite Singularity.
    What Rupert can perceive as a misconception does not make it an untrue conception for all points of perception which all belong the Infinite One. All truths comprise the Ultimate Truth. If we could actually take any of truth away then it would only be the Almost Ultimate Truth, incomplete and finite. His having the capacity to perceive any concept as a misconception and it appear truly as a misconception to him doesn’t negate what Awareness knows to be true from other points of perception. We are awareness and have never been separated from ourselves as awareness. He assumes awareness iz the subject and appearances are objects and that since objects come and go that they are not eternally present and therefore don’t exist eternally, when he has one point of perception, not all perceptions. So none of our perceptions which are all of the One are invalid and nonexistent.
    These are still concepts he’s presenting and drawing his conclusions from. He’s claiming the thoughts he has are absolute truth but that iz ignoring that Awareness iz infinite, it iz limitless. He doesn’t have exclusive dominion over anything, including awareness, to determine what all it iz and what all it isn’t. That’s identifying with a thought and why he can’t see any other perspective as having the potential of equally being true and his conception equally being perceived as untrue as he perceives other perspectives to be. He’s using thoughts to devalue other thoughts and ignoring that HE iz idolizing particular thoughts as being the only possibilities, and iz negating aspects of the infinite which iz delusional.
    Rupert has A truth, not the ultimate truth. In all the negating he does and he doesn’t see his folly? He iz ignoring that he doesn’t have the capacity to undo the truth of any other point of perception. He can’t make anyone stop perceiving truths that would have an appearance to be in contradiction to what he teaches iz true. Making such comparisons iz leads to even a greater distortions of ignorance. This stems from a belief that lack can exist but lack iz just another concept pointing to nonexistence. What iz nonexistent can never exist, it cancels itself out and the concept itself ends there as it doesn’t exist in any form. Everything within consciousness including the unconscious eternally exists within.
    Just because a perception known as true doesn’t align with his perception of he knows iz true doesn’t mean they are not experiencing Awareness exactly as they say they are. His insisting they as Awareness don’t experience themselves as the body iz to ignore Awareness. Awareness from other aspects iz telling him it does indeed. Who does he think iz telling him that? He’s separating them from the Awareness they are because their perceptions are not his perception. And likewise they don’t have the capacity to stop him from saying their truth iz invalid and believing he’s right. We can’t undo anything, what exists iz eternal having no beginning and no ending. Time iz an illusion that only exists as a social construct. All forms are illusions, existing within reality, and are inseparable of reality.
    Does he think Awareness iz limited to not having the ability of experiencing itSelf and knowing itSelf as a body? Why does he assume the body has limitations? Which body iz he talking about? Does he think he has been experiencing just one body in continuity??
    He’s speaking from one point of perception of the infinite that he keeps separating in terms of what iz included in existence and saying what doesn’t align with his perception of Awareness iz nonexistent. That’s a bullshit thought he keeps telling himself so of course he’s going to try to bullshit everyone else. It’s bullshit because he can’t undo what exists no matter what form it appears in, he’s identifying with thoughts and that’s why he can’t see the infinite through the distorted thoughts of thinking Awareness can’t see itself differently than the one point he sees as Awareness. He will see when he stops identifying with his thoughts he’s attached to and limiting himself, he’s not limiting thought or being limited by thought, he’s limiting himself.

    Yes, but so long as the body is alive, can we truly say awareness is not limited to the body/mind, even a function of the body? It seems a little far stretched and sort of an assumption while the body is alive and the dead aren't exactly reporting in. I'm open to discussion though which is why I brought this up.

    • @xPhreaky
      @xPhreaky 9 років тому +2

      Reverend Eslam If you wish to break that down for me in an experiential discussion it would make more sense to discuss as I don't know enough about liquids, solids, gases, heat and ether from an experiential standpoint (test of reality) to conclude. From my experience these fingers can type and of course all I know from it is the perception and sensation of doing so, only because I am aware of them. That's the awareness, but I still seem to think it's a little far stretched to make any conclusions about it not limited to being "alive" or "on".
      Rupert enjoys saying things like it's the one constant that has run through our whole life and experience, but isn't saying that even too far stretched in an experiential viewpoint?
      I'm willing to jump over this hurdle, but I'm also wiling to put my foot down and not be spoon fed anything I don't understand regarding a teaching.

    • @onoesmurlocs
      @onoesmurlocs 9 років тому

      Anthony F when Rupert speaks about these things he knows them to be true if you don't know its good that you don't just accept them as true that would be pointless and give you the illusion that you know when in reality you don't it's good to take them as a hypothesis to investigate to see if they are true or not use his inquires and meditations to discover the truth for your self by yourself , with maybe a little help from kind wise soul like Rupert to point you in the right direction ,obviously I can not speak for Rupert just my opinion on the matter.

    • @xPhreaky
      @xPhreaky 9 років тому

      Reverend Eslam It's far stretched to say "throughout all of life", because all of life is right here and now, so in that sense it's already saying too much.
      Don't mistaken me, I absolutely love Spira's teaching for years now, but I do believe even he said in a couple of his videos that he cannot actually fully disprove if it is not limited to the body, but he goes on to say it makes more sense than the conventional societal understanding (saying this however still doesn't disprove it lol).
