1964 MCI or C Ration with Winston Cigarettes
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- Ok so today I'm looking at a 1964 C Ration. So as it turns out the stuff that I thought would be good were bad and the things that should have been bad were good. Kinda crazy I know but, I just love the history of these things and, the cigs that are in them very cool.

it's okay!
haha shout out to Steve with a 'Nice' and the hiss & fast forward.
Good review man. Heard those cigs are a class act. Shame you didn't get to em in this video.
+Gannon Gannon
I'll have them posted soon they accually turned out ok not great but ok. Hey thanks for watching I appreciate it.
oldsmokey For sure man, loving the vids.
Be careful with smoking older filtered cigs some of them have asbestos in the filters
The only old cigs that I know had the asbestos filter was the old Kent brand cigs. They only made them for a number of months.
Kents contained crocidolite, a form of asbestos, from mid-952 to mid-1956, when Kent's own research showed some crocidolite could break off and get injected into the smoke stream, especially for smokers who's draw was higher than average. They then switched over to cellulose to the complaints of then current smokers. They knew the draw had become more difficult and the taste had changed. It appears from research that you would have had to smoke Kent's from that entire period and be one of those smokers that really drew deep puffs within the first two drags to substantially increase your chance of mesothelioma. Assuming a smoker started when they were 16, the youngest smoker of Kents from 1952 would be 80 years old today. Very few people with mesothelioma make it to 80. Every other filter cigarette used some form of cellulose rather than crocidolite. I have no idea why Lorillard, the markers of Kent, thought using a form of asbestos in filters was a good idea.
You should put all beverage mix in clear cups so people can see it better. This is not a steve video, but i think steve would be proud.
7 years too late mate😂
Subscribe coz stive take long time to uplood new video. And this channel the best review channels
Thank you so much nama.
Wow! for a 53 year old ration it held up very nice, well... except for the pork steak. I would guess the ration was stored in a very cold and dry place all these years. Really enjoyed it, thanks for the review!
Hey thank you for watching. I appreciate every viewer. This ration accually did surprise me. Stay tuned for the cigs I accually got them loose and smoked them. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day
The same thing happened to my pack of Winston cigarettes from a accessory pack , the coffee was still good though . But I'd much rather have had the cigarettes .....
I've caught so much crap over that pack of smokes over the years. I did finally get one out and smoke it like 2 vids later.
I was able to get one out of the Winston pack the other day, but I wish I left the pack alone and sealed.
the pall malls from the Accessory second pack I also bought were shot the whole accy. pack was spoiled . :(
@@Oldsmokey1 I've been searching for camels for a while now. I don't smoke anymore but like drinking 30yr old scotch exceptions will be made. Perhaps a trade could be arranged
Hey Smokey! I was rooting for you to get those smokes out of the pack..those old accessory packs are truly a man's accessory pack! Sundry pack?!? What's that mean lol?! And those cans are premo too! Okay man, excellent job..I'm making my way thru your vids slow but sure! Catch ya on the flip man!
+Tom Byron
Thanks bro I'm trying to get the video with those cigs edited right now. Hopefully I'll post that up here soon.
Hope that sound issue worked itself out for ya.
You are a FAR CRY from steve....you are NOT a close second...but you are the second best, nonetheless...here is a like and subscribe brother😉
Steve1989 MREinfo sent me. Awesome channel man. Looking forward to the backlog I have to watch of your videos
+Sheldon Gunby
I started out a little rough but I'm getting better at this. I love doing this and, all of the support the community shows. I appreciate your support and watching. Thanks again.
oldsmokey if I may suggest anything from some of the videos I watched. It's strictly my opinion and what I like from what I've seen from other reviewers. But I really do enjoy maybe a short history brief on the ration or food, maybe a small short story of a take you've heard or read about soldiers who've tried it. I really love that about these videos besides the reactions and the rations themselves. It's kinda cool to hear what you have to say about others who have experienced it or what they've done with the rations. Kinda like when how they used to call Ham and Lima(Ham and MotherF***ers) or that they would melt the cheese spread into the ham and Lima beans. Idk. I think stuff like that really adds flavor and really gives me more reason to dig my head into the videos. But again. Just my opinion! Love the videos regardless and you've definitely deserve every sub you get
+Sheldon Gunby
I will definitely take that advise for sure. Next vintage review I do I'll include some more stories about that particular ration or mre. Thanks for the advice I'm definitely open to it. As I stated I'm kinda just getting started I think I'll get better with time that's my goal anyways. Check out my review of the 83-84 from Stickyfingaz745 I tried to add some stuff about what was going on those years. But yea I'll definitely be doing that in the future. Thanks again!!
Just finished all your videos man lol. You're gonna be going places, your videos are pretty awesome
Thank you I sure hope I can just keep improving. I seriously appreciate the kind words and you have a great weekend.
I bet the GI's had strong hands and wrists from using those can openers! I tried one and they get tough after a bit.
This is the first video that I ever saw from U...
Thank U... ☯TAKE CARE🍀
Greetings from Nürnberg, Germany✌
+Miriam Boufaied
Hey thanks for watching from Germany that's awesome. I'm glad to have ya.
hey man, loved the video! was wondering where i could get myself an old military ration like this?
Is there anywhere decent to find affordable pre 72 accessory packets or intact mci's? I've been checking ebay for months and everything is overpriced or looks horrible
great review.... what happened to the cigarettes?
stick to the bottom?

It took me 3 days to get those smokes out. Idk if they were exposed to moisture or what. Oh and I will check out your reviews.
dude you don't need to pack them that much. i don't even pack my cigarettes any more. really they're suppose to come from the factory ready to smoke.
Let's get this out on to a traaay haha nice review mate.. 7 years late but yeah nice. 👏Shame about the cigarettes😢
Sorry guys for not being able to get those smokes out. I worked on those things for days just to get one out of there. As for the jam I was so excited I forgot about or didn't think of putting it on the bread at the time. I wish I had thought to do that. I sure had fun opening it up though. Thanks for checking it out. Later.
The cigarettes were not helped by your violent and repeated packing of them.
Those cookies , Steve made a review with those as well.....They are Vanilla Cream Filled Cookies.....don't know why yours are so dark in the middle . I think the filling turned dark, cause I doubt that it was chocolate filling.....the ones Steve had were in perfect shape & the cream part was nice & white / light.
+Alexandra P.
Yeah mine were actually chocolate cream cookies. Made by the same company that made and still makes girl scout cookies. I did some research after this video into the cookies. Mine were perfect as well just chocolate cream. There was chocolate cream, lemon cream, and vanilla of course. The chocolate and vanilla were most common the lemon was pretty rare I guess.
steve sent me.. shame about those cigs tho.
+CaptainTruth
Check out the later review. I will have another 64 mci out tonight. It's going to be with Lucky Strikes. This thing was all kinds of fun. It should be up tonight.
+CaptainTruth
Hey glad to have ya btw. Hope ya hang around a while. Thanks for watching and commenting. Later.
Those factory workers should have found a way to put an additional accessory pack now n then
My favorite cigarettes are marlboro southern cut
no offence to Steve but I like your videos allot more, your normal. Lol. not a square, goofy, shaking weirdo. but something he does that I see you won't Is actually eat more then just a nibble and drink the stuff you paid hundreds of dollars for.
+Ericdawg420
Oh no I eat it. I just don't want to make you guys set through me eating a whole sit down type meal. I think I should just give the flavor profile and move on. I try to knock it out so it's still hot when I get done. If not I've got to heat it back up. But as for Steve you couldn't ask for a more normal dude really. I happen to know him really well and he's as laid back add they come. As for him being shaky. If I were opening up a ration like the stuff he has I'd be shaking to. Not only the historical value but the monetary value as well. That's enough to make the best profesional nervous. I mean he only gets one shot to get those rations on video. It's not like he has an extra if he messes up. I'll say this even with a simple ration you still get nervous before starting the video. Also check out the end of some of my videos I sometimes show the tray after I've finished the meal.
To bad those ear plugs don't work people get tinnitus
Why not cut the packaging and free the cigs?
I love the 1960s
cheaper version of Steve 1989 ....
I clicked on this cuz I’m smoking a Winston rn lol
Don't eat the cheese unless you want to be constipated
Steve1989 sent me to you :)
+swan bylander
Hey I appreciate you coming over. Hopefully I won't disappoint. I've got some pretty cool reviews coming up soon. Thanks for watching.
steve1989 is the king of MRE reviews. not trying to be rude I am not a fan of this guy
+Sean Paul
I don't blame you dude. I bombed this review in a few different ways. Check out my chicken and noodles review from 64 it's alot better in my opnion.
Packed the shit out of those smokes, really takes away the integrity of the flavor
I disagree. I don't like an unpacked smoke.
Shame about the cigs.
if you can't open cigarettes pack what can you do ?? annoying
shut up pussy
He forgot to try the toilet paper.
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Why smoke?, your choice but I don't want to have the chance to get cancer and shave years off of my life.
Well, I've know people that never smoked get lung cancer and die, then there's the opposite side of that where my great, great grandpa lived to be over 100 years old and he drank and smoked every day.
Oldsmokey Well people get lung cancer from other smokers even though they never smoked as your great great grandpa he probably smoked cigars where you blow out the smoke, but live your life the way you want.
Oy səni winstonnn nə günlərim olub səniynən
Winston tastes good ... like a ... cigarette should
lol ... the power of advertising! ... BTW ... you gave up way too easy on those cigs bruh!
@oldsmokey Hi i have such a little question how much $ mre this mre package came out for.
thank you for answer
I'm so glad I found your channel!! Steve sent me!
and bummer about those cigarettes!
+LynnMarie Rozwalka
Roger that!!! But I accually got them loose for an upcoming review. Stay tuned I'll be smoking the oldest cigarette ever smoked on camera hopefully here soon. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it.
oldsmokey Yessssss!!
They will be included in my next post. They turned out to be ok not great but ok. I'll try to get that up within the next few days. The next one I shoot I think I'm going to try smoking the oldest cigarette ever smoked on camera they are a 1938 Marvell cigarette. So stay tuned for that I'm excited to check them out!!!
Any surface mold on harder foods like cheese and meats should be fine to you may just have to trim it a little like you would a dry aged steak or cheese, mold is fine in most cases, required in quite alot dairy products

As Steve would say "Nice!"...lol
Weston's is a Canadian company. Been around a long time and they still are. Interesting to see they supplied the cookies
+FlyingfinnRC
From what I understand they produce the girlscouts cookies here in the United States. I think there are factories here in the US .
Dude if it is powder it is fine
Enjoyed the review brother
you deserve more subs
Thank you hopefully one of these days. Thanks for watching I appreciate every viewer and subscriber!!
+Vietnam_ History
Thank you I appreciate that.
Cool my friend.
Weston's is a bakery company that was originally founded in Toronto. It opened a bakery in Virginia after WWI and prospered making packaged cookies for the expanding world of self-serve groceries. Cookies (or biscuits in Canada) were usually sold in big barrels to grocers. You decided how many you wanted and the grocer put them in a bag. That obviously wouldn't work for self service so Weston's started putting cookies in consumer size boxes. Their real success came in 1949 when the Girl Scout cookie program started and Weston's became the exclusive supplier. This success impelled them to open four branch bakeries in different parts of the country to meet the demand for Girl Scout cookies. They still bake Girl Scout cookies today. Because of their success in high volume quality production, they were also chosen to be the cookie supplier for C rations. If that cookie tastes familiar, it's because it's the same recipe used for Girl Scout Sandwich Creams.
+Sar Jim
That is some awesome information right there. Next time I get these in a video I will mention this. I will add that the info was passed along to me by you. That's so cool thanks for sharing. Thanks for watching also. Later.
You're welcome. I used to get roped into helping my nieces with their Girl Scout cookie sales and dealt with Weston's several times. They sent me a history of the company which I still have around here somewhere. It was good trading material when guys got the Weston's cream sandwiches in their B-3 unit. There were only three out of the twelve menus that had cookies, and they always came with the cocoa beverage powder. The rest had crackers and usually cheese spread in a can. The jam in yours was usually used on the bread or saved for crackers. There were several makers of C ration cookies. Jim Dandee is one that comes to mind, and none of them were as good as the Weston's cream sandwich. It came in several flavors, including vanilla, chocolate, and coconut. Since there was only a 25% chance of getting cookies, and a much lesser chance of getting Weston's cream sandwiches, smokers could almost always find non-smokers with a sweet tooth willing to trade off their smokes for cookies. I don't think a C ration ever got eaten as it was packed.
+Sar Jim
Wow again awesome information. That's what's awesome about doing this. Hearing the history from folks like you. I appreciate you taking the time to tell me this cool stuff.
Nice review. Came here from gschultzs recent video

Awesome, glad ya like them.
Awesome review man like the ww2 tray
+Jason Adair
Thank ya I appreciate that. Thanks for watching and Happy Holidays.
I enjoy watching these for the history of it. That is my Birth year and i remember as a child Winstons is what my dad smoked.
+sharon maurer
That's cool. To bad the Winstons were not exactly fresh.
Yea to bad they didnt turn out to be fresh but that cookie and bread looked good. I dont know if i remember weston cookies unless its something they just made for the service.
+sharon maurer
I was actually taught on here that they were and still are the manufacturer of girl scout cookies. They used like 3 or 4 different brands but this Wesson was supposed to be the best.
Yes i googled it to see if the cookies were still around and saw that ;) Girl Scout cookies are the best;)
No, the smokes... :(
+Evelyn Merchant
I know I worked on those things for days after that and finally got 1 out of there in tact. Thanks for watching and commenting. Later.
Wow Winstons
+Vietnam_ History
Winstons are pretty rare actually.
I always wondered why they never had cigars in these rations. I know there were cigar smokers in the military at the time.
That's a good question but my guess would be maybe because of the size of cigars and the packaging they came in. But idk honestly. I'd say they were available to most guys somehow.
Good review!
+Harrison Blackwood
Cool if you liked this one you'll love the one I'm uploading tonight. Stay til the end for a laugh maybe. But hey glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Later.
Looking forward to it. It seems in a lot of reviews that the entree is the first thing to go in the MCI's. A guy I know recently lucked onto a large supply which had been stored in a basement and so far they have all been good according to him. Thanks for the quick response and have a great one.
+Harrison Blackwood
You mean still edible??? You've got to hook me up with a few of those from this basement. The one I just done still had the fruit and the entree in it. Seriously though I'd like e to get some good entrées. Those usually go because of the fruit going takes them out usually.
If they were mine I'd seriously hook both you and Steve up with a few. Yes, edible. He's eaten a few and his kids eat them. He say's theyre fine. I've told him he should sell them on Ebay, that theyd go quick. I didn't know it was the fruit unit that caused the problem.
+Harrison Blackwood
Tell him to get ahold of me. I'll buy some for me and Steve. I'd love to actually try an entrée. Yea the acid in the fruit is usually what does it to Tomato sauce stuff.
did you smack those cigarettes enough? lol
+greatjob9999
I don't guess so they were still stuck in the package. It took me like 3 days of messing with them to get them out.
Steve would be proud
15:13 he talks about the cigs.
