@@SquallNoctisGUX REV 1 was part of a deal. It was also not meant to compete with the mainline title that released in the same year, RE6. Given that RE6 flopped hard, and people demanded an HD console port of Rev 1, it was a given. It also didn't help that Rev1 was made to be played in short bursts, with longer play being up to the player(side objectives, optional backtracking, etc) making it perfect for a handheld. REV2's episodic thing was part of Capcom's attempt at releasing content early and giving them more time to polish each section on top of making a quick buck. Rev1's chapters being called "episodes" didn't help at all.
@Donlad222 how did resident evil 6 flop? It was straight up the best selling resident evil game outside of 5 getting almost 11 million units sold. I get it if you think it was critically panned and disliked by fans but it paid its due and then some.
I hate it when people say RE6 flopped. Even back in the day when it came out and it was cool to bash it, I kept telling people it failed because it had a ridiculous budget and failed to meet Capcom's even more ridiculous expectations. Not because nobody bought it. But people kept acting like it flopped and didn't sell well when at the time, it was the 2nd best Capcom selling game. EVER.
@@miguelb5661Yeah, RE6 sold well, because it was the the sixth entry of the mainline Resident Evil series. They could’ve marketed it as watching paint dry and it would have sold well off the name alone. The problem is that everyone wanted to play 6, until they played 6, and realised it was a dumpster fire. Very good on the business side, very bad on the fanbase side.
Funnily enough, I started playing Revelations 2 during a psn sale on RE games. When I played it I kept thinking, “why do I feel like I’m playing RE6 and RE4?” The sprinting, backstabbing, crouching, and lack of lasers made me feel like I was playing a modern RE game. Glad I wasn’t imagining things 😂
Revelations 1 and 2 were so much fun I've always wondered why they haven't brought back raid mode and the single player campaigns in them were also pretty tense to me back when I played them.
His offhand comment about plundering Rev 2's features in future mainline games makes sense from a business sense. If raid mode's level of quality and features had been added to the RE4 remake people would have greatly increased expectations from future games and this would translate into more work and effort from Capcom. Bad for us customers, great for them. They may not be Activision/EA/Ubisoft but they still want to make money for as little effort as they feel they can get away or live with.
Shouldn't we mention Umbrella Corps here as a cautionary tale? It feels like they WANTED to make a standalone Raid Mode game, and screwed it up so royally it scared them off the idea forever.
@@AtaeHone In my opinion, it shouldn't be full feature game, it should just be extra mode like it was in REV1-2. I honestly like Raid mode in both of these games, especially REV2 because you could customize your character. Also, I absolutely hated RE6, but it had really cool Mercenary mode.
I always felt revelations 2 was based of code veronica. You start in a prision, in an island. Against some entity that talks to you remotely, setting traps to get you killed. Claire's campain ends by facing a mutant who was betrayed by the main antagonist. Later on another person comes and follows similar footsteps from where you have been. Chris on code veronica, Barry revelations 2.
Story wise, Revelations 2 is a direct spinoff of Spencer's personal office in the Lost in Nightmares DLC of Resident Evil 5. There isn't one but rather 4 notes mentioning the Overseer of that DLC spotted in the same room :).
how similar moira and steve are? i'm convinced that the people behind code veronica thought they were doing a remake....but then changed their mind the last minute.
@@ElliFong its still the same, dont see ur point Code veronica:In the aftermath of the fall, Claire's foot became trapped under the rubble. As Steve got onto his feet, he encountered his father, now infected with the t-Virus. Unable to shoot him, Steve was unable to act. Just when it seemed that he would reach Steve, Claire unintentionally attracted his father's attention. Steve shot his infected father down just as he was about to bite Claire. However, in shooting his father, Steve completely depleted the ammunition loaded into his Sub Machine Guns. Rev2:Claire saved her, attacking Neil with her knife and sending the three of them crashing to the ground. Neil went on the offensive again, falling on top of Claire before she could shoot him and sending her handgun sliding away. As Claire struggled with him, Moira forced herself to crawl toward the gun, her mind overwhelmed with the recurring memory of what happened to her little sister. Overcoming her fear, she grabbed Claire's gun and promptly emptied the magazine into Neil's head, saving Claire's life
The main reason REV2 had such enemy variety in its Raid Mode is because they had all the assets from all the other action-era RE games to pull from; a greatest-hits of that era as you mentioned. Is this a defense of less enemy variety in RE4R's Mercenaries? No, because now you're making me hope there's DLC in the future where RE4R Leon goes up against a horde of RE8's lycans interspersed with RE7's Moulded while being chased by Mr. X. 😅 P.S. And don't worry LambHoot; there's a few people in my neighborhood who has recognized RE6's mechanical greatness for years!
Revelations 2 is a more grounded version of Re 6. 😂😂 In terms of control. But i think revelations 2 is what would should Re 6 should be. Better pacing and level design with horror elements.
@@jackjax7921 Oh no argument there! RE6 is best played when someone wants some truly dumb, schlocky fun even by RE standards (unless we're talking about Mercenaries; you can trace REV2's Raid Mode DNA to that version of the game mode). Honestly though, here's hoping that the next RE game is more experimental with its gameplay. Fingers crossed that it's RE9.
The enemy variety in Revelations is a carryover from Mercenaries 3D, the 3DS port of 4's Mercenaries with enemies and levels from 4 and 5 - sort of an apology to 3DS players for messing up the series' initial outing on the 3D console.
This may just be me but... I never liked the molded. They're just blatant copies of the Ooze from Revelations with just a color and texture difference but where the Ooze had like 6 or 7 variants, there's 3 variants of molded and unlike Revelations which introduced other enemies and had some returning ones to add variety, 7 just had molded. The molded just feel like the Ooze but boring and the only aspect of them that's any good is that the crap aim of 7 makes them an actual challenge where if 7 had village controls the molded would've been a joke. No shade at 7. It saved the series and is the reason we got village and two great remakes(2 and 4) but Capcom most definitely outclassed it by a landslide with the three games I just named. I also like the Revelations games more than 7 but that's opinion more so than them actually being better.
I 100% agree with you on everything, funny after I beat RE4R, I dusted off Rev 2 for no reason and started playing it. I think subconsciously I was on your level. Great video, subscribed.
Been saying for years how Rev 2 was one of the most important games in the entire RE series. Thank you for this video, makes me feel lees crazy about thinking that for all this time.
I've championed Revelations 2 for years. They weren't kidding about adding 500 hours of gameplay with Raid mode. I definitely put more hours in that mode than most other RE games I've played combined. I never made the realization that RE4's remake was using its control set-up -- perhaps because I haven't played Revelations 2 in some years - but it seems obvious once you lay it all out. Part of me kinda loves that. I'm glad to see those mechanics come back. Part of me is afraid that it means the series *is* stagnating. Remakes are often a bad sign for a series' creativity, but I did at least believe these remakes were bringing something old into a higher standard. But... well, I guess we'll see what they do with the next round of remakes. Still fuckin' hoping they do Code Veronica...
I agree on the Code Veronica remake. It's the only canon RE game I find unplayable. 0, 1-7, Village, and the Rev games are either really easy to control or you'll get used to it after roughly 15 minutes but Code Veronica? Not so much.
It's cool to see someone get the resemblance from that game. Lots of people at the time didn't really talk much of it's gameplay design since it was a side title & "low budget" RE game. It's cooler when you realize some of the devs. from Rev. 2 also worked on the other modern RE titles too after it. Capcom greenlit their future with that "low budget" game. :)
Glad to see another Revelations 2 fan. It's one of my favourites in the whole series, and I've put hundreds of hours into Raid Mode. My dream Resident Evil game is Raid Mode, but with characters, locations and enemies from EVERY previous Resident Evil. It'd be ambitious to develop, but amazing if such a thing ever existed 😊
Currently playing through it right now after years of only completing a few chapters and giving up. It's so unique compared to everything I'm used to and is a great change of pace from the more recent titles 😊
@@yuseifudogamer4717 RE6 didn't fail. To date, I don't think any RE game actually outright failed, they may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but to call 6 a failure is wrong. BUT IF there was any game that actually failed, it'd have to for sure be RE3 remake.
I cannot believe this video is almost a year old, I still remember the day it dropped and have listened to and relaxed, even slept to this video countless time. It is rare I find Resident Evil content so good that I want to watch it over and over but this video fits the bill! Keep up the good work and thank you for reigniting my interest in Re Revelations 2 :)
I guess the hope would be that if they reach the same point once again they will be able to move forward from that point with the series' current positive momentum instead of having to regress and re-invent themselves out of the hole they dug themselves into.
@@assassin8636 That even though the RE series has been only re-using and re-inventing ideas and concepts from past games I hope they will actually develop them further in future games instead of getting into a loop of only repeating old ideas.
@Ronin11111111 probably to save money obviously but I get what you're saying well not every new RE game is going to have something new but it would be refreshing to see new ideas. When they do make new ideas people will probably hate it😅
@@yuseifudogamer4717 Another RE6 wouldn't be a bad idea, 6 had plenty of good ideas but they were poorly executed. If they take another shot at an All-out action RE by using 6 as a base, expanding the systems as well as learning what 6 did badly we could have an amazing game.
What a revelation. Gotta go back to Revelations 2 now for sure! I played almost every resident evil last year but revelations 2 was the one that burnt me out but with my newfound knowledge that I've already played a whole game with almost the same moveset I'm sure it'll be smoother sailing. Raid mode kicks so much ass tho I want that mode in a RE engine game so bad
I would love that they made a standalone game that dedicated to Mercenries mode with Raid mode element or vice versa, it's time for capcom to make us ethe most of the arcade theme mode that has been increasing the replayablility of the game
I feel they're both incredibly underrated considering they're two of the better RE game's. Like, they're better than 0, Code Veronica, 5, 6, and 7 without even being able to give a fair comparison. For more context, how I rank the games I've played. 1: Resident Evil 2 remake 2: Resident Evil 4 remake 3: Resident Evil: Village 4: Resident Evil 1 remake 5: RE: Revelations 2 6: RE: Revelations 7: Resident Evil 7 8: Resident Evil 3 remake 9: Resident Evil 0 10: Resident Evil 5 11: Resident Evil: Code Veronica 12: Resident Evil 6

I’m a young RE fan but fell in love with the series when I watched my father play RE 5 and I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into re Since 5 but I’ve never played any of the revelations this video gave me some kind of euphoria and made me feel like I’ve been missing something my whole life I can’t put into words how I feel right now this video is so amazing and you are too thank you so much ❤
@@ZacFrazier your doing yourself a huge disservice by locking them behind the worst game in the series. The two Revelations games are amazing and I genuinely recommend playing them asap when you have the time. Rev 1 can be a little messy but if you enjoy that mess like I do the whole game is a blast. Rev 2 is just phenomenal. Not the best RE game but definitely top 5.
@@TekPlayzGamesrev 1 definitely has its flaws. The only segment i feel is S tier is jill’s segment on the ship as it has the least amount of action and is more focused on the horror elements. The partner ai’s programming is atrocious, the enemies completely ignore them despite them shooting at them, might as well not include the partners in the game if they’re practically invisible/ignored lol. But despite these issues (theres clearly more just naming the ones that greatly irritated me the most) i still view revelations 1 with high regards.
Ironically I just beat Resident Evil Revelations 2 a few days or so before this video. Also I was a fan of the punisher pistol, it allowed me to get head shots on shield enemies, it allowed me to shoot through enemy's throwing axes so I could both deflect the axes and land that head shot, and that one crazy room in the castle where shielded enemies and reed cultists attack you from many directs carried me through the castle ( then I sold the punisher for the red 9 when I made it to the WW2 island ).
you can also shoot the legs of the shield guys to perform a roundhouse kick. ;) works on crossbow enemies as well which is super fun. when a horde is nearby you you can stun the first enemy and headshot the second enemy and have enough time to go and do a roundhouse kick because the first enemy got stunned. its super underrated
This video was able to accomplish something I have been failing at for years... it finally got my friend interested in Rev2, especially the Raid mode which I would bring up to him any time he played Mercenaries in any of the other games.
what an elaborate and roundabout way to defend re6. RE6 reminds me a lot of DMC4 in that it's a mechanically fantastic game brought down by garbage levels. I only got around to appreciating RE6 when I tried out the mercenaries mode. I do think a raid mode with RE6 controls would be amazing.
Having clocked in at least 100 hours in Revelations 2, that question at the start really attacked me. Granted, most of those hours went into the raid mode so the story itself didn't really stay with me without being reminded.
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject It's not bad or anything, I just didn't replay the campaign more than twice compared to so many hours in raid mode. Plus it's been years, so the story really is blurry to me.
Crazy how I played through Revelations 1 & 2, and yet, it's been so long that I forgot about my experience with Revelations 2. It was so great to be able to play as Claire and Barry again. How the hell did I just... forget the game's plot...?
Yeah , when I played Revelation 2 , I really liked its movement and control system . The dodge mechanic was also great , and that is how a horror survival game should be .
Thanks for this loveletter to RE:REV2. By the way, you can find the Revenant weakspots much easier than by wasting ammo on limb guesses. Switch to Natalia and look at them with the enemy awareness; you'll see on the enemy that a specific spot is "highlighted". That is where the Uroboros core is.
It was a purposeful omission to emphasize the ways in which RE:REV2 was similar to RE:4 without distracting the viewer with a detail that would make them go, "oh, then they're not so similar...!"
Finally someone talked about this.. i have always seen the similarities between Rev2 story/places/campaign and other Resident Evil games . I felt like it's the exclusive base of them not many people know about 😅
I've been a fan of RE for a long time now and I specifically thought the same exact thing about raid mode and why the never decided to reuse the game mode in a sequel after REV2. what makes the most sense to me is that while raid mode is possibly one of the best if not the best extra game mode created in the series, Capcom knows that the majority of the player base isn't there for a some what grindy RPG with a RE coat of paint. I can say with confidence that most longtime/older fans of the series want more a more narrative driven RE series which is probably for the best but im still gonna be sitting the the corner fingers crossed for that raid mode specific title and the ensuing 2015 nostalgia.
i agree, RE6 is way way ahead of it's time. like heck! Revelations 2 is what i'd call a masterclass in RE side game and RAID mode is the icing on the cake
1-2 I think had the best balance, of horror, survival and action with a cool and fun setting, I also loved that you didn't need to spend $5000 on a PC to run them. I wish we had more sequels in its tone and style just minus the weird episodic plotline.
Damn... I vaguely remember raid mode in rev 2 being fun and ridiculously hard to get all those medalions, good job (also, revelations 2 is on my top 3 best resident evil games, so I hear you)
It was really surprising to see how many features were actually introduced in Revelations 1 and 2 and used in the later remakes, these two are not very popular but some of the best re games out there
28:52 That's where I've been since Resident Evil 6 first came out. Well, I wouldn't say masterpiece, but it certainly was ahead of its time and is a great game.
It makes me feel very relieved and stoked to see that Revelations 2 did not deserve the hate and backlash it got. Super underrated RE title and it`s fantastic to see fans giving it the support!
So what's your point then? That Capcom should add 100+ Enemy-types with random strengths and weaknesses to every new Resident Evil? You do realize, when you talk about Raid-Mode you are still talking about a BONUS-MODE from a Resident Evil Game, not a Story-Mode? Of course Raid-Mode was more challenging and fun - cause it's been designed ONLY to give you a challenge and a fun time. But a Story-Game is more than that, it has more substance and kind of a in-universe logic it's based on. You can't just randomly throw some Revenants or J'avos into RE4 cause it wouldn't make any sense storywise. Besides it would've been much harder to do that for RE4 Remake than it was for Revelations 2 - cause one was made with the RE-Engine and the other looks godawful anyways, so nobody would bet an eye if enemies in the Raid-Mode wouldn't look so great. Also I don't really get why those Revelations (lol) reduced your opinion about RE4 Remake. You are acting, like this is the first time Capcom notoriously reuses stuff from their previous game. Or is it seriously the first time you noticed that? Dog-Enemies have the same off-screen growling since original RE4, Crows also always use the same sounds since decades, some door sounds are the same. The same darn stuffed animals from RE7 appear in almost every new Resident Evil, Jill uses Ethans car in RE3R just with a different color, the Zombies movements in RE2R and RE3R are the same as from the Molded from RE7 and so are the Movements of Mr.X and Mendez. The list goes on and on ... I think as a fan of this franchise you just need to life with that stuff and not pay too much attention on it or you are ruining the games for yourself. Cause one thing's for sure: Capcom won't ever stop reusing assets from previous Games. Cause why should they, if it works?
The fact you played the Wii version of resi 4 makes you a veteran and a comrade in my eyes, I beat it on professional on the Wii when I was younger and I still hold it as one of the most challenging and enjoyable experiences I've ever had as a gamer
Not sure if it's been mentioned as I am currently watching the video but I heard ironically that Resident Evil Village was originally going to be Revelations 3 (or they introduced the concept as it originally) but they changed things to make it Village. Also, I played Revelations a few years ago (not even 10) and I'm now just realizing that one mechanical enemy in Village is basically the same one that was in Revelations.
Yeah they should have kept it as Rev 3 but Rev 2 is my favorite and either way it would taint either series. Not a bad game just horribly fantasy.. They need to tone that shit down. 4 was bad enough
Rev 2 is definitely one of my favorites. I love the fact you get to play as Barry. As both a Dad and a firearms enthusiasts I even love the sub plot about firearms safety and keeping your guns locked up especially when you have kids around the house. They even had Barry bring along his KAC SR-47 which is literally an AR-15 that takes AK-47 ammo and magazines which is a great choice a firearms expert would choose for that situation. Seems weird in an RE game but I love that down to earth stuff in a game about mad scientists amd zombie viruses.
BRO! This video was exactly what I needed this morning! Resident Evil is my FAVOURITE thing that I've found on this planet, and I've spent the last couple years in a funk being disappointed by the 3make, Infinite Darkness, and now Death Island. (4make is really good but the problems I have with it don't seem to be shared by the fanbase at large) But I've been watching my favourite franchise change and shift and your callback to Raid Mode made me remember all the amazing times I had maxing out characters and you've made me excited about Resi again!
That video was seriously amazing. It was structured so well. I've always been a massive fan of Resident Evil 6, even though my buddies have been ragging on it for years. I've only played the first Resident Evil Revelations, but your convincing arguments have got me hyped to buy Revelations 2 now. And dude, you nailed it with the Resident Evil 4 Remake mercenaries mode being way too easy. But let's talk about that ending, man. Eating that Resident Evil 6 pizza? Pure genius! I was freaking raving about it. And can we take a sec to appreciate the production value on your channel?
Yep...and her project on the island was mentioned four times in the Lost in Nightmares DLC of Resident Evil 5. Basically, Oswell Spencer funded her project and she cut him off while running with his money at the cusp of further breakthroughs in order to take full credit for the progress in the research.
There are certain pockets of the internet I'd be destroyed for saying this, but this feels about as safe a place to say it as I'll probably ever find. Capcom have been slow boiling the frog. They recognize they got overzealous with their wacky innovative ideas, so they dialed it back and have been slowly lacing our new remakes with their old ideas. They know those ideas were only rejected because it was too much all at once and wasn't as cinematic as that other 2013 "zombie" game about an old man fighting for a young girl. Capcom is not the only ones doing this. Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII compilation series was near universally hated, but now they're reselling those same exact ideas but paired back and coated in a glossy new cinematic coat of paint, and the fans who hated the exact same ideas they're lapping up now are none the wiser. These companies realized they don't have to come up with new material for making new games and get critically annihilated in the process, they can just sneak their old new ideas into remakes and re-imaginings of their most successful games and gaslight their fans into liking it. Can't argue with results.
when the video started off, i immediately said "thats revelations 2, duh" and then was a little surprised to hear 8 being mentioned. i didn't play 8 myself because of a sincere lack of interest, but did play revelations 2 and enjoyed it thoroughly. it's so underrated, and one of the few resi games that aren't a pain in the ass to play on switch.
8/village is just a weird game. It's like they had several different ideas on where to take the game but didn't know what to settle on so it just went with all of them. That's why it has the weird baby section that appears out of nowhere which is kinda neat for the first playthrough then becomes the worst part on every playthrough after. You also get a strong sense that capcom stopped caring as much for the game after lady dimitrescu's castle. Every portion after it is significantly shorter and the other "lords" don't feel quite as involved.
@BlaizeTheDragon the re8 setup is insane. 7 is my favorite entry in the whole series, even though i can appreciate the originals, simply because it has the most coherent storytelling, and its sections brought variation to the table while still being coherent. the bosses made sense. 8 just throws all of that overboard. lets fight a tall vampire whos also a dragon, the fish from re4 but now more sentient, optimus prime and a leftover boss from dmc5. i truly didn't enjoy anything but the atmosphere in the castle and then the creepy baby house. wild how they went from 7 to.. that.
I'm glad you've brought this up because I have been saying this for awhile now. It wasn't until you pointed some things out that I realised what it was I quite couldn't put my finger on when telling my friends.
I remember playing a lot of RE Revelations 2 on my xbox 360, it was the game I played the most (after GTA and minecraft) cuz it wasnt so expensive here and (of course) because the Raid Mode in this Revelations had a massive upgrade compared to the first game ...I miss my xbox and playing this game, playing on pc doesnt look like the same thing :(
I played Revelations 2 from launch, but I did not notice those similarities, probably because I remember more of the Raid mode then the main story. Thanks for showing me.
Revelations 2 kind of has the tank controls where you can't move sideways and only in the direction that you're facing...which I'm fine with so long as the gameplay/movement are polished which it is in Rev 2. Rev 2 basically introduced a dedicated crouch button, the emphasis on crouching while movement for stealth kills, and a dedicated dodge/evade button which can be used to great success while running too. As for RE7, Village, and RE4 Remake...you can run sideways while facing a certain direction but the dodge/evade button in Rev 2 has been replaced with parrying. You can't run sideways in Revelations 2 which once again is fine with me but I think it had everything to do with the MT Framework Engine totally messing up the fluidity of that mechanic in RE6.
As someone who played RE6 last year for the first time, I do agree about the control scheme being suprisingly unique for it's time. However, the mobility and versatility it provided didn't reached it's full potential there because the level design was way too cramped and linear most of the time unlike 4,5 and yes, Rev2, where every areas is a sandbox open to player expression.
I loved the gameplay of re revelations 2, I never had a re game that felt like a mountain of context that even if I frought the map 2 times before and beat them I would die on the same map because a boss instant death enemy floored me with speed and fire then killed me before I could move not to mention the Glasp still grabbing me dispite being well versed in removing them. I could become very powerful yet be absolutely defenseless once I slipped up because I had to reload.
Revelations 2 is first RE game that really got me into series. I've played its raid mode for hundreds of hours on PS4 and Switch. It's game that made me really care about characters, to the point that it was so stressful that I couldn't finish it for a long long time, and even after I've revisited it, I've got bad ending (I didn't knew that there were multiple ones at the time) I was heartbroken. Still, this game was near to being a masterpiece, minor flaws were that story was cringe at moments, and being it a spin off, it lacked scope of predecessors. Idk why it failed, was it bad taste of 6 that people still had in their mouths, or something else, still, this game is in my top 3 RE games.
Btw this is a common practice with game companies especially in the last 10 years, just reiterating and recycling what works. Farcry and assassin's Creed for ubi, cods always been this way, EA sins are numerous as well with this, all we can hope for is for them to do more and better stuff with what works. Unfortunately it seems resident evil is flirting with the Activision route of reiteration, but hopefully not.
I was HURT being called a fake fan when I got it RIGHT xD I enjoy seeing the features being implemented into the remakes, but my love for Revelations and Revelations 2 isn’t stopped. I enjoyed RE6 a lot too, it was definitely ahead of its time and that’s exactly why most people didn’t like it, it didn’t continue a classic feeling. It’s like it skipped a generation, and now I feel like they are going to Remake up to RE5 so that RE6 can be on par with how they are recycling.
Another Lambhoot classic in the books Edit: I just wanna say that deep down, MOST resident evil fans are 6 pilled, even if they don't want to admit it.
Nah. Most fans avoid it, never revisit it, take it at face value etc. It's a game people refuse to engage with after a mediocre first go through. I call it a game that becomes great when you get gud at it. But honestly I only say that for solo play. I've exclusively had positive experiences doing co op with friends
@@PrincessNine I didn't even get past a couple hours lol It and Code Veronica are the only RE games I have access to that I will never touch again, but for Code Veronica it's just because of how bad it actually needs a remake. As much as I appreciate RE4 remake it wasn't technically needed, but one for Code Veronica is.
Fun fact: Alex wesker was referenced back in RE5. On the ship in one of the rooms decked out with science stuff you find a note mentioning two survivors: Albert wesker and an A. Wesker, who turned out to be Alex in revelations 2.
I love revelations 2. My sister was my Co OP partner since re5 and she was too scared to join in for revelations 2,instead she jus stuck around and cheared me on as I scrapped myself lol. She even went on YT to find out how to get the true ending. At the end we were both terrified and agreed to never play the game again since then it stays on my shelf as a memento.
i know youre not hating on the games, you stated that, but all your points felt dumb and petty to me. its like nitpicking on something just because you wanna be annoying. to me atleast, its gonna be VERY difficult to make an "original" game with completely new features anymore. its OBVIOUS theyre gonna use features and gameplay styles and plot formats from other games or games from the same company itself, because they were GOOD things, duh. everyone would be pissed off if, for example, gta 6 didnt have cars because they had cars in gta v, or there wasnt a weapon wheel because it was in gta v already. thats pretty much the idea i got from this video, i might be wrong, or i might be stupid 💀
Revelations 2 was criminally underrated and as far as I’m concerned was the last true non-remake RE game. I don’t acknowledge 7 or 8 as valid to the lore
@@benyang2427 I’m not saying they weren’t good games, I’m just saying they didn’t feel like proper additions to the lore. Frankly they felt like they were embarrassed of the pre-RE7 lore and treated most of what came before as a dirty secret. Would’ve been better as a new IP because the shoehorned “connections” to previous games felt forced and out of place
@@luket3452 agree completely...from a business standpoint, RE 7 panned out and helped resurrect the franchise to where fans became attracted to the branded reoccuring characters of the past. Id have RE2, RE4, RE1 Remake, Revelations 2, and Code Veronica in my top 5 with very strong honorable mentions to Revelations 1, 2 Remake, 7, 3, and 4 Remake
I became a fan because of Rev 2. It's in my top 5. However, so are Village and 3 of the 4 remakes. Idk, the lore isn't what I play RE games for but I love how cheesy and nonsensical a lot of it truly is, it makes the lore a fun thing to pay attention to so it is something I like. However, I play RE games to have fun, feel a sense of fear or dread, solve some puzzles, and fight some horror creatures. 1, 2, and 3 remakes as well as Rev 2 and Village kinda hit that spot the best for me. Even if puzzles are almost non-existent in Rev 2 and Village, they still hit the other components I love. Also, Village does connect to lore but sort of half-asses it. That's sorta why it's number 5 and the other 4 I named are above it.
@@luket3452 I don’t think it was embarrassment, it was just a reality that after 6, there was nothing you could do with that lore anymore without milking or stretching it out. 7 felt like a nice change of pace and it made sense due to the series focusing back on horror to have a new protagonist and almost new horror and setting. It’s fine for a series this long to change up or tell different stories
I'm sorry man, but I can't agree with your final point whatsoever. After I beat RE4:remake, I booted up 6 because I wanted to continue Leon's story, and I just couldn't get that far into it. The game isn't good, no matter how you try to spin it. It has far too many action set pieces (especially that ridiculously stupid intro), and it doesn't give you much time to breathe. The story is also just way too much if that makes sense, and it makes all of the characters 80s action movie stars with horrible dialogue and all. The gameplay is far too actionized, with every enemy and their mother dropping ammo even on the harder difficulty settings, and it relies far too heavily on the "Defend this position as waves upon waves of enemies charge at you" shtick, the cabin was a fun and challenging section in RE4, but it quickly loses its luster if it's spread across the entire game. No matter what, these newer games aren't a waste. Resident Evil 2 was an old PS1 game that came out 20 years ago that many, many people had never played, and while I agree that the original RE4 is still playable, I think the remake is still a stellar experience for people who don't like playing older games, especially when the original RE4 was a product of its time in that it was very button-mashy and the holding position while aiming to shoot. I will agree that Revelations 2 was a fun game though, and it's a shame it went under the radar for so many.
Felt so nice to know there are other people out there who appreciated and enjoyed the revelations series as much as I did. But also when talking about the revenants in RE REV 2 you seemed the miss the part about how Natalia's whole "gimmick" is that she can spot the weak points *for* you and that there *is* no guess work of trying to shoot their body parts to find their weak spot. You can either use the button to swap character's on the fly and see the weak point for yourself before wasting ammo, or have your co-op partner do it for you if you're not playing solo. It honestly made every enemy encounter with the revenants *extremely* trivial.
good callout! I’m not sure how explicit I was with this, but I was mostly referring to raid mode throughout this. In raid, the only option is to try each segment until you find the glowing one.
If you ever play Resident Evil, love RE 1 Remake the most, second, if you play RE 4, think about how it differs from the older games and may change your benefit to have a drastically changed gameplay over what you first loved starting from the older games, and third, appreciate every Resident Evil games.
I’m glad to see the punisher gets some love finally. Every RE4 playthrough I’ve done (except the No merchant and 1st handgun only) I’m always running around with the punisher and making use of its advantages.
I'll say it, I love re6. I love the campaigns and how they were connected together, I love the 4 player co-op sections. Honestly, If anything they need to tone down some bits so it's not over the top for some areas, too much action bits, no driving sections, they needed an inventory system as that's the fun and addicting part as well as the weapon upgrade system. I love the dodge roll, i think that was perfect, i did like the lying down on your back and shoot (love that you could run slide and turnaround and shoot on your back) , the butt scooting i get why they did that so players could control more when they were on the ground but i admit, that was weird and wish the game didn't have that but some of the level design needs to remove those sections where you needed to butt scoot, leon section in campaign 3 and chris snake vent bit should be removed so butt scooting can be removed. I cant get into re revelation 2 one, graphics, two the campaign sucks for one of the players, honestly, it's not good to have 1 player not have a gun. the raid mode, i find it hard to find friends to play with for that. I think what killed re revelation 2 was it did not have online co-op for the campaign as i can tell you my friends would have played that game if it did.
If 6 gets a remake only 30% of it can remain intact for it to be a good game unfortunately. I see the potential 6 had but that potential was ruined by nearly everything. It had a few ideas that were good but executed in a bad way.
Any person that's in the media business should know day 1 that you cannot please everyone. That's what killed RE 6. They wanted a scary, but not shit your pants scary for the people who don't like scary, action over the top, fast paced, but at a lot of points slow paced game, goofy af but at the same time they wanted us to take it seriously, etc. RE 6 is just one giant contradiction. Producer wanted to make a game everyone liked, and he did meant everyone, but that's the same reason it wasn't good, ironically. When a game has an identity crisis, geez.
Yes, everyone has that one Resident Evil game that was truly "it" for them, that they loved and poured countless hours into; while I grew up with the series, playing every entry and side venture, Resident Evil 6 was where I finally found my home. To me, this game represents so much of how the series has evolved, and how far it's come, as it's the smoothest playing of the Resident Evil titles in my opinion, and yet, it's still challenging, especially when you enter it at it's most hellish point: Difficulty Mode - Abandon All Hope [SELECTED] Cue Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare," and just drop straight into that shit. I'm serious, that song heavily represents what Resident Evil 6 is, in terms of story, pacing, and gameplay, and I mean that in all the most positive ways. The Tall Oaks outbreak, the Langsheng Outbreak, the Slovakian Outbreak, and the Malaysian mountains Outbreak (from the additional manga) all set the stage for an apocalyptical event that would have put Albert Wesker's Uroboros Project to shame, as we finally reached a tipping point where one of these viruses was quite ready to literally drag humanity into a catastrophic end. I mean, with Tall Oaks burning down worse than Raccoon City ever did, bio-weapon [BOW] fuel war consuming the literal earth with C-Virus infected terrorist roaming the streets of Langsheng and the Slavakian republic, as well as the seas in a high powered submarine and aircraft carrier, you can really see what Chris was talking about at the end of Resident Evil 5, about fighting for a world "without fear" and questioning whether or not it's worth it. The Resident Evil world is fucked. And unfortunately, Chris knows it's fucked, considering bio-organic weapons have become a mainstay in modern warfare (shut up with your Call of Duty comparisons and let me finish) in this setting, that, while frowned upon by the world's powers for the same reason biological weapons are frowned upon in real life, still see usage by desperate insurgencies looking for anything they can use in third world countries to either level their local enemies or strike back at the world's powers, whom they see as oppressive, whether we're talking about the West or the Eastern block, instead of trying to steal or build nuclear weapons; viruses, mutagenic molds, and parasites that grant extraordinary powers to some while turning others into monsters have become the standard for extremists and those looking to invoke terror. As Langsheng and Tall Oaks proved, there will be more Raccoon Cities in the future, it's inevitable, even with groups like the BSAA out there combating such things, it's become a day to day struggle no different than the unending struggle between law-enforcers and crime that goes on and on as a part of human civilization. But even though it's inevitable, there's still hope for a better tomorrow, because so long as good people don't stand by and do nothing, our resident evils can only get so far as long as there are those willing to fight back against the darkness. And that's what Resident Evil 6 is; it feels like the pentacle of the series, or at least the ending point of what I like to call Book 1, the S.T.A.R.S era. Honestly, I think of it that way, because RE6 wraps up all the major loose ends from RE1, RE2, and Code Veronica. We finally get to learn more about the US Government's involvement with Umbrella, some information about Ada Wong's past, we get the details of what the deal was between William Birkin and the US Military was when he was selling out the G-Virus to them when HUNK's team originally interfered, and we get to see our heroes fly off into the sunrise one last time, and it feels final, or at least like a book end. I always felt like Resident Evil Revelations 2 was a final detailed story from this time that needed to be told, to deal with the whole Alex Wesker thing, and considering she was successful in transferring her consciousness to Natalia, I expect this to be followed up on later at some point, but for the most part, I felt like Resident Evil 7 was a new beginning - not a reboot - but the opening of a new era in Resident Evil, where legacy characters like Leon, Chris, and Jill are still around, but are taking more a backseat now, because their story is mostly over..... Well, maybe not Jill's story. I have a feeling we'll see Jill, again, in RE9, if Dead Island is anything to go by, but the S.T.A.R.S era just feels completed thanks to Resident Evil 6, and that game will always be epic because of the closure it gave us.
See, I'll buy that RE6 was ahead of its time in terms of its controls, but it was still a horribly paced and janky-as-hell game that made it kinda shit. You can have the best controls in the world, but it won't matter if you don't make a good game around those controls.
When something's "ahead of its time" it doesn't neccessarily mean it's all good, just that its good ideas were indicative of the future. The "ahead of its time" spectrum can be pretty wide now that I think about it: 1) something that becomes regarded as all-around brilliant in hindsight 2) a good ideas that were implemented badly due to limitations or incompetence 3) good idea implemented well, but the whole package didn't measure up 4) a BAD idea, that nonetheless was indicative of the future (Oblivion horse armor DLC comes to mind for this)
I mean Re 4 is a repetitive shooting gallery and you call it a masterpiece. You just have a skill issue. You want a game that holds your hand like Re 4. Brainless endeavor.
@@jackjax7921 you really think that RE4 holds your hand but 6 doesn’t? that’s a delusional take. Also as if RE6 isn’t a repetitive shooting gallery, at least 4 has variety and is actually fun.
@@jackjax7921 You're an actual idiot. 'skill issue' where? Shooting gallery? where? RE4s entire game design is built around Leons core standing and shooting mechanic wonderfully with masterclass level design and wonderful use of inventory and movement. only time re6s gameplay gets good is mercenaries.
I don't know about jank and pace. I just know I tried both Leon and Chris's campaigns back when I first got the game. Got bored of both around an hour in on a level of boredom so bad I returned it to GameStop the next day for a few dollars since the game isn't even worth the money I got back for it. In trying to be so over the top and action heavy, it becomes so uninteresting, messy, and just outright boring in the process and that's what I hate about it. It's the only RE game that I would take a bullet to the head over playing. I hate Code Veronica to just for the tank controls WITH fixed camera, but I'll spend hours getting used to that over spending a single penny on RE6 ever again.
I was skeptical about the video when I first clicked being a huge RE fan and loving how much we are eating right now but I was pleasantly surprised by your takes and thoughts - subbed :) But to play Devil's Advocate here I think part of the problem is that the game has to be designed in a way that having Ashley with you wouldn't be frustrating, having many more different varying enemies would be a blast when Leon is alone but when you're trying to fight off 5 different enemy types, one of which that can jump behind you and tickle your taint becomes more annoying than fun when Ashley is dying or getting nabbed the whole time. Ideally they would have made Ashley more capable of fending for herself in some ways or designed the game in a way where you could tell Ashley to run to specific places or activate traps or hazards to help defend you and defend herself (I really loved fighting the Plagas Knights with Ashley throwing the lanterns down on them, more stuff like that). Anyway I'm more forgiving and accepting of RE4R but I respect your points, they are valid I'm just more relaxed in my criticism personally. (sidebar to anyone with the PC version of RE4R there are several mods that address some of the issues brought up in this vid - on demand dodging, enemy ai tweaks and upgrades, really turns the game from a great remake to an amazing one)
This sounds more like Revelations 2 being one of the most underrated games of all time and Capcom being mad that it's underrated more than anything
That’s basically what it is, I still never understood why REV1 was a 3DS title given how good that game was alone then making REV2 episodic 🤦🏽♂️
Well, Revelations 2 launched after RE6, not before it.

@@AtaeHone I heard they made "Umbrella Corps" to make it big in esports. It didn't resemble Raid Mode.
@@MoreEvilThanYahwehnot just one offhand comment...more like offhand video lol. Love Revelations 2!
@@DIPSAINT Not very, Moira has gunphobia that you need to have her over come for good ending.
Rev2 definitely intentionally echoes CV.
@@ElliFong its still the same, dont see ur point
Code veronica:In the aftermath of the fall, Claire's foot became trapped under the rubble.
Revelations 2 is a good example of why asset reuse is not a bad thing.

If Code Veronica played like Revelations 2 holy shit.
But Claire isnt there yet skill wise.
I agree on the Code Veronica remake. It's the only canon RE game I find unplayable. 0, 1-7, Village, and the Rev games are either really easy to control or you'll get used to it after roughly 15 minutes but Code Veronica? Not so much.

you can also shoot the legs of the shield guys to perform a roundhouse kick. ;)
works on crossbow enemies as well which is super fun. when a horde is nearby you you can stun the first enemy and headshot the second enemy and have enough time to go and do a roundhouse kick because the first enemy got stunned. its super underrated
Basically this comment here.
RE6 has awesome gameplay but the campaign is unplayable imo.
I still love DMC4 way more than RE6 lol.
Same! I got to Mercenaries and couldn't figure out why it felt so much better.
I do adore the campaign meself, but Mercs is absolutely the best thing about RE6.
"As a dedicated enough player to play through some of the nicher titles.. your reward is thr ability to spot Reuse"
Having clocked in at least 100 hours in Revelations 2, that question at the start really attacked me. Granted, most of those hours went into the raid mode so the story itself didn't really stay with me without being reminded.
It has the best story though lol . 2 remake and Code Veronica being the only other good stories.
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject It's not bad or anything, I just didn't replay the campaign more than twice compared to so many hours in raid mode. Plus it's been years, so the story really is blurry to me.
I'd say it's more like them trying to adapt their older ideas in a more horror centric style vs. their more action-packed progenitor
Awesome video. Your breakdown of carrying over controls, without perhaps considering the context for their initial creation, was fantastic.
Barry's part is definitely the best in Revelations 2. Reminds me of the Last of Us.
Definately the parts with Barry and Natalia give Last of Us vibes
This video has succeeded in giving me plans for the weekend and making me buy RE revelations 1 & 2. Well played, good sir.
Crazy how I played through Revelations 1 & 2, and yet, it's been so long that I forgot about my experience with Revelations 2.
It was so great to be able to play as Claire and Barry again. How the hell did I just... forget the game's plot...?
I'm asking myself the same question. I low-key forgot about them...
The coop raid mode from Rev2 is one of the best experiences I ever had at the Switch.
OG RE3 had skill based dodge that no one seemed to know about...
1-2 I think had the best balance, of horror, survival and action with a cool and fun setting, I also loved that you didn't need to spend $5000 on a PC to run them. I wish we had more sequels in its tone and style just minus the weird episodic plotline.
Damn... I vaguely remember raid mode in rev 2 being fun and ridiculously hard to get all those medalions, good job (also, revelations 2 is on my top 3 best resident evil games, so I hear you)
What are the other 2 ?
4 was bad enough
if two village holdouts weren't enough have a third broken one
Rev 2 is definitely one of my favorites. I love the fact you get to play as Barry. As both a Dad and a firearms enthusiasts I even love the sub plot about firearms safety and keeping your guns locked up especially when you have kids around the house. They even had Barry bring along his KAC SR-47 which is literally an AR-15 that takes AK-47 ammo and magazines which is a great choice a firearms expert would choose for that situation. Seems weird in an RE game but I love that down to earth stuff in a game about mad scientists amd zombie viruses.
They did Revelations 2 dirty by selling each chapter separately!
And can we take a sec to appreciate the production value on your channel?
frozen pizza ok every now and then
Alex felt way better executed than Miranda tbh. Partly because she was actually built up.
Yep...and her project on the island was mentioned four times in the Lost in Nightmares DLC of Resident Evil 5. Basically, Oswell Spencer funded her project and she cut him off while running with his money at the cusp of further breakthroughs in order to take full credit for the progress in the research.
I really prefer Raid mode over Mercenaries. The rpg element of leveling up and getting new weapons and upgrades just does something for me.
I knew you were talking about Revelations 2!!!
I enjoyed that game and the first!
all this dilemma is because the remake was still trying to be Resident Evil 4 and not Revelations 2
3:44 what is that tune? Sounds so familiar but can't place it
There are certain pockets of the internet I'd be destroyed for saying this, but this feels about as safe a place to say it as I'll probably ever find.
I don't have an issue with recycling old assets...so long as the product works fine and provides an optimal gameplay experience.
The reason why the revelations titles exist, allows Capcom to experiment and try new ideas.
And Remakes as well.
when the video started off, i immediately said "thats revelations 2, duh" and then was a little surprised to hear 8 being mentioned. i didn't play 8 myself because of a sincere lack of interest, but did play revelations 2 and enjoyed it thoroughly. it's so underrated, and one of the few resi games that aren't a pain in the ass to play on switch.
I remember playing a lot of RE Revelations 2 on my xbox 360, it was the game I played the most (after GTA and minecraft) cuz it wasnt so expensive here and (of course) because the Raid Mode in this Revelations had a massive upgrade compared to the first game
...I miss my xbox and playing this game, playing on pc doesnt look like the same thing :(
I played Revelations 2 from launch, but I did not notice those similarities, probably because I remember more of the Raid mode then the main story.
0:37 I'd know this one anywhere! Resident evil village.
Wait what-?
Oh- Jesus Christ I haven't played that game in a long time.
What a genuinely great video man thank you for this!
Ending had me crying
RE6 played so well it was criminal it didn't result in a spin off series.
I realized how similar it was aswell, cause I had played revelations 2 before re8 and the other remakes and it felt strangely familiar
All AAA studio are like that today :/
Did not expect to hear Opus Number 1 in a Resident Evil video. I expected even less for it to fit so well!
Look at the RE6 mechanics guide by Archon and then tell me Jake's campaign is bad.
Another Lambhoot classic in the books
Edit: I just wanna say that deep down, MOST resident evil fans are 6 pilled, even if they don't want to admit it.
Nah. Most fans avoid it, never revisit it, take it at face value etc. It's a game people refuse to engage with after a mediocre first go through.
I call it a game that becomes great when you get gud at it. But honestly I only say that for solo play. I've exclusively had positive experiences doing co op with friends
@@PrincessNine I didn't even get past a couple hours lol
It and Code Veronica are the only RE games I have access to that I will never touch again, but for Code Veronica it's just because of how bad it actually needs a remake.
This is such a well made video it’s got me to replay the first game and I love it so much more now
i know youre not hating on the games, you stated that, but all your points felt dumb and petty to me. its like nitpicking on something just because you wanna be annoying. to me atleast, its gonna be VERY difficult to make an "original" game with completely new features anymore. its OBVIOUS theyre gonna use features and gameplay styles and plot formats from other games or games from the same company itself, because they were GOOD things, duh. everyone would be pissed off if, for example, gta 6 didnt have cars because they had cars in gta v, or there wasnt a weapon wheel because it was in gta v already. thats pretty much the idea i got from this video, i might be wrong, or i might be stupid 💀
I’m glad Reve 2 is getting more recognition through this video
RE4:Remake felt TOO familiar and this video just hit the nail
Revelations 2 was criminally underrated and as far as I’m concerned was the last true non-remake RE game. I don’t acknowledge 7 or 8 as valid to the lore
I thought 7 was bold yet felt great whereas the whole first person/Ethan Winters saga ran its course during the 2nd half of Village.
I wish RE4R felt as smooth as Rev2 and Re6, Leon's movement inertia and aim sway can feel ridiculous sometimes
also you're right re6 is awesome 💪
I played Revelations 2, and I used to love it because Revelations was my first Resident evil ever, but damn I never noticed.
In raid, the only option is to try each segment until you find the glowing one.
so glad you're getting the recognition you deserve bro :)
Ive never even played a RE game, but i do love hearing you talk about them
If you ever play Resident Evil, love RE 1 Remake the most, second, if you play RE 4, think about how it differs from the older games and may change your benefit to have a drastically changed gameplay over what you first loved starting from the older games, and third, appreciate every Resident Evil games.
Fun video, fun structure, liked the pizza gag
Lol gotta love UA-camrs who speak like they are giving the Ted talk of the year lol. Some people really just try to sound intelligent lol 😂
To me, this game represents so much of how the series has evolved, and how far it's come, as it's the smoothest playing of the Resident Evil titles in my opinion, and yet, it's still challenging, especially when you enter it at it's most hellish point: Difficulty Mode - Abandon All Hope [SELECTED]
Cue Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare," and just drop straight into that shit.
4:11 and ain’t no body tell me nothing 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Whata reach lol Rev2 was clearly taking it's pages from TLOU
TLOU taken notes from RE 4
I was skeptical about the video when I first clicked being a huge RE fan and loving how much we are eating right now but I was pleasantly surprised by your takes and thoughts - subbed :)
But to play Devil's Advocate here I think part of the problem is that the game has to be designed in a way that having Ashley with you wouldn't be frustrating, having many more different varying enemies would be a blast when Leon is alone but when you're trying to fight off 5 different enemy types, one of which that can jump behind you and tickle your taint becomes more annoying than fun when Ashley is dying or getting nabbed the whole time.
