The reason that Hot Ones got to where it did is because Sean is the Larry King of the internet generation. And I get that the hot wings have to be done to get the clicks- but honestly, if I had my preference, I would rather Sean just host a straightforward interview show. He's _that_ good.

The wisest thing a buyer could do is make Sean a partner on the show. He'll be even more invested.
It won't just be a job anymore, it'll be his baby, like it should be. They should give him creative control, name him as a producer, give him a nice chunk of the revenue, and he'd be at the big boy table making decisions....As he should've always been.
This show should make him rich and famous. That's what a future investor should ensure Sean, so they don't lose him, and are confident he's excited to stick around to grow a Hot Ones channel.
He's paid his dues IN FULL. Hot Ones should be a franchise, not attached to First We Feast, but creating more good content and mentoring new interviewers with Sean's similar sense.

    • @Rainnone
      @Rainnone 2 місяці тому

@@de7oxWhile I agree that First We Feast can make videos with good number of views, Hot Ones is now synonymous to Sean Evans. Yes a lot of people clicked for the guests of the interview and watch them answer question while eating hot wings, but Hot Ones retains its viewers because of Sean. He's a great interviewer, he also involves himself in the research and that's why guests love him and a lot of people wants to be in Hot Ones.
Matpat's case is different because Sean's interaction with the guest is spontaneous specially when they go up the wings. Hot Ones tried doing some segments without Sean and it feels lacking.

Mythical would make sense. They've already done the Smosh takeover in the past, so they know acquisitions of YT entities. They have a food division that would create great tie-ins. And Josh would be a great back-up for Sean, if he leaves. Get a high-profile guest to do a Mythical circuit - GMM episode, Hot Ones, and even a Mythical Kitchen appearance. Boom, all under one roof. Even partner with the existing Smosh relationship, since they have some residual mingling.

12:30 Hot Ones needs Sean basically infinitely more than he needs the show in my opinion… I could almost guarantee that 95-97% of the audience leave new uploads of the show as soon as Sean inevitably calls it quits, nobody else besides someone like Nardwaur interviews people in as much depth as Sean does in my opinion! They could ask the exact same questions as Sean does sure, but we watch every single episode no matter who the guest is, because of Sean Evans! If it came down to budget cuts and either he takes a pay cut, or the show ends… I would hope that he would take a pay cut purely just to save the show… But at the same time, the guys done 20+ seasons of the show now, so it is inevitable that he’s going to want to do something different in say 5-10 years sure, but yeah, I’m gonna keep watching until he hosts his last ever show I know that for sure… The man is modern day UA-cam royalty in my opinion, there’s a reason so many people love HIM

I've been watching you guys since you've had less than 30k subs, all this to say this is one of the most well thought out break downs of a large show in the space of YT. I also think you're correct that longer format interviews are much more interesting. I have been a regular viewer of Hot Ones since 16' and think if Sean was to break away to create his own show it would still be interviewing people but a longer format. While the concept of hot sauce is interesting and funny at times, I think the real "star" of the show is the questions Sean and his team come up with. I am sure you've seen "clip" channels doing montages of guest saying" that's a great questions", which is exactly why so many massive stars want to be on the show. JMO. Cheers!

Another thing about marketing the hot sauce brand, is that I haven't heard many say if the hot cause actually tastes good. So there really is no reason to buy just the sauce unless you're doing the Hot Ones Challenge. I could imagine them branching out to other "spicy foods" like Buldak ramen, which is successful for its insane spice but also providing more of a meal than a hot sauce.

Whenever it gets too hot for the guest, suddenly you do a plug to feastables milk chocolate, or feastables milk shake or ice cream etc. And of course having the celebrity guest try it and like it reinforces how good it tastes even more. 21:10 - This is ultimately UA-cam working as youtube was intended no?
The original vision of UA-cam and also Twitch was creators being themselves and bringing in the numbers that cable would see on any given night. A core element here is still UA-camrs trying to be traditional late night hosts and TikTok gen trying to be UA-camrs. Nobody asked media companies to come in and drop $50-100 million investments and I'm super happy small teams or indies can beat them.

ya idk, tbh, the Hot Ones Versus thing kinda convinced me. When yall were posing ways they could reformat the show, I was thinking the only way to do it is like Variety breakdowns or whatever they call them. Or like Wired interviews; one of these shows where a celebrity basically interviews themselves. and Hot Ones Versus seems like a proof of concept. I mean, i think the moment Sean leaves he'll be able to run his own successful interview show if he wants, but ya, I think Hot Ones would probably be fine. Now, is that worth buying? I can't imagine it is. On youtube i don't see why you wouldn't just copy an idea instead of buying an idea. Copying shit is like what this website is all about

Providing the show concept is strong enough it could survive a host change.
We have a few uk tv shows like never mind the Buzzcocks that have had several host changes, and have faired the storm.
The tv show 'Have I got News for You' lost their host after a sex scandal, the programme continued and replaced the host with a weekly guest host spot, the show is now more popular than ever. it would be kind of fun to get a guest host each episode coupled with a guest interviewee, if Sean was to leave.
it is important to note that this is traditional media and new media seems to be far more precarious.

A lot of people are making very biased points in these comments. Listen, Sean seems like a very nice and genuine guy. He thinks of great questions and can definitely handle the spice. But he is not, nor has he ever been, one of the best interviewers - online or anywhere. He has an awkward way of speaking and often feels like he's always delivering lines. Compare Sean to Conan, Letterman, Guy Raz, etc. - he's not even in the same realm. It's hard for people to accept this when they clearly like him - and there's nothing wrong with liking him! But the show can 100% live on without him, as is shown in the Hot Ones Versus data that Samir seemed to ignore when it didn't support his argument. The concept is so strong on its own, combined with the company's ability to attract popular and relevant talent, that it can absolutely continue on without Sean. At the end of the day, more people watch the show to see how a celebrity will react to insanely hot wings - they've seen Sean do it a million times, that's not what's interesting. If it continues on after Sean, especially with his blessing, it will continue to be successful.

I agree in the sense that Sean can definitely be replaced and that he isn't the most naturally charismatic person, but he is very involved in researching his guests, crafting the questions, and making the guests feel comfortable. Conan himself called him a good interviewer, and I'd say that's huge praise. Sean can be replaced, but I don't think they can just pull someone out of nowhere who does it as well or better, at least not very quickly.
