My parents are elders and got free food from this Restaurant a few times during the pandemic . They really treated everyone nicely, even those who gets free meals from them. The food is excellent according to my parents. I will definitely dine there when I get a chance.
Asians have had it tough for centuries! But we still prevail and fight back harder. We always work hard towards bettering our future and for those around us. If Covid did anything positive for the Asian community it was bringing us together to stand up for ourselves, speak up and not be afraid to voice our concerns! We need this to be engrained in our younger generations so that we can make our community heard and safe! Everyone deserves to live in peace without being abused
Ugh me and my wife tried to go here in May when we travelled to NYC but she was closed bc of the fire! So disappointed we didnt get to try her cooking.
As a former sales person for years and publicist I can tell you just by clip in this video that showed me she knew what it took to give what people want. "Do you like mushrooms", she worked off what people wanted. That is #1 key to being a good sales person, providing a want and need.
Wow whatta roller coaster! So many ups and downs! But I love that it ended with you guys including her story in a national tv show! I wish her the best!
This was so inspiring to watch. When at your lowest, the best you can do is fight and adapt your way through. I hope this restaurant will stay open for many, many years!
My heart broke when he said, “they saw us the virus carriers” my heart hurt for them…. Because not once did I think that but then I saw someone discriminate and I just couldn’t stand for that. Speak up and help out….
Here in Hawaii (and I'm sure elsewhere on the mainland), Asian immigrants arrive with very little. They look for cheaper areas to open restaurants or markets, and set up shop. No fancy neon lights or hardware. Handwritten signs and makeshift tables are the norm. BUT, they work hard, earn enough to send their kids to expensive private schools or public schools, but the children study hard and thrive, even if English is a second language. Parents believe education is way to get out of hard physical work. Proof is on graduation day, the majority of valedictorians have tricky to pronounce Asian names, and if your schools also announce the colleges they are attending, it's not uncommon to hear all the Ivy League schools, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, MIT, etc. Not all Asian immigrants are hard working, but I'm going to say most are.
Well, it's very complex. Yes racism does happen, but you also have criminals doing the same crime over and over again, and you are wondering why crime is getting so high. Not only about racism, but you also need to know if government policies are being too soft on criminals too. Unless Asians get into politics and know if the media is playing games, they wouldn't know why they are getting the hate.
Ubereats takes 40%. If you order through them the restaurant is not making a profit. I always order directly from the restaurant and try to pay cash. I want to support the restaurant, not Ubereats and M/C or VISA/ AMEX.
Most of small businesses had PPP from the government. Many are shut down forever...because they got their money. In SF, most businesses are still closed or only open 4 hours a day. Kudos to this business woman though!! Never give up mentality is all we need.
us ppl don't even study history well, they enjoy spend in south east asia but turn to blame asian, but not army base around asia drive them live in suffer
I bought at restaurant in Feb 2020... one week later Lockdown. Then able to open May 13 2020... business has been good. This story isn't too special because many people had this issue. I am also first generation asian. Ever done a comparison on asian/ethnic businesses and versus american/white owned? The asian mentality and push the survive is what probable kept her and myself flourishing throughout the pandemic openings and closings and still doing well after.
Instead of calling it terrorism, its anti Asian crime around the city. Uh. That's terrorism. Tell ya people. Read the labels. Decide to look for the products made in USA instead. "A few rotten apples spoil the bunch"...
God bless her for persevering through so many challenges and for helping our senior citizens. What a gem of a heart she has.
It is just cheep ess noodles with too much MGS. Their diabetus will go up.

I have so much respect for this woman! Kept her head up through the high and low, and not once did she blame others for the challenges.
God bless her for helping the elderly

How about you stop eating bushmeat.

Never underestimate the efforts of a Woman to Obtain Something she Truly Wants.
What about blacks?
Asians specifically Chinese are the most preserved race
@@hillyseattlenarrowstreets6087 They do terrible work. All the far yeast made jonk that always breaks. There is no quality.
Helen Nguyen is a great example to not just Asian people, but to ALL people. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Helen is amazing! She is always so kind and lovely and her food is so comforting! She definitely makes the neighborhood better

Gorgeous, self driven, ambitious, & tenacious. Keep going Helen!
As someone said "It is the one who survives is the strongest. Not the strongest survives." I am glad she survived the hard times.
What an amazing woman, may she reap the rewards for her undetermined and unwavering dedication to her craft. 🙏 ✊

She is so pretty

She is an Asian Superwoman! Hats off to her.
What perseverance!
Wow this woman is strong!!! I know a lot of people would have buckled…
It was tough for all Asian restaurant during the Covid time. Many could not be able to open again.
People with good works will be blessed! 🐇
I don't understand the hate Asians in America get. They are some of the hardest working, smartest, respectful, people to give back to our communities.
Racism was always there but the pandemic just made it harder for us Asians.

@@spang9782 Yeah, I didn't mean to "generalize" that all Asians are hard working. Although, all the Asians I know personally, are.

They are just tacist and jealousy of Asians.
We love pho and egg rolls with fish sauce.
Very determined ☺️ She will succeed
I'm always in New York. Next time I'll check it out!
New York Chinatown is one of my favorite foodie spot whenever I m in that area. Can't wait to check out this spot soon.
Ubereats takes 40%. If you order through them the restaurant is not making a profit. I always order directly from the restaurant and try to pay cash. I want to support the restaurant, not Ubereats and M/C or VISA/ AMEX.
but dont you have to go there to pick it up?
Interesting I didn’t know that with food delivery apps then again I don’t use them
Man I was watching all the Pho spots packed during the pandemic
Hope she will stay strong.
All the best for Helen and the rest of the Chinatown.

what a warrior!
Shes so sweet
glad shes doing well !! :D
Amazing woman!
Good job Helen. Can’t wait to try Saigon social
"Thrive" wouldn't be the word I would use. More like "persevered" "pushed through" "struggled"
If America was an all Asian country, it would thrive. I won’t go into the reason why but as you can see here, we get it done.
There is an all Asian country though.
us ppl don't even study history well, they enjoy spend in south east asia but turn to blame asian, but not army base around asia drive them live in suffer
Stay humble, hard times.
I don't know How that Chef Chinese lady still Look Beautiful even with all the stress in the Kitchen 🥰
She is Vietnamese. Not all Asian looking people are Chinese.
She is Vietnamese!
Poor lady looked exhausted....😔
Good for you! If I’m in New York I’m going to eat there

that guy looks like tom holland. but happy for the restaurant's sucess - hoping her and many others bounce back up!
The collective moans when they heard about the kitchen fire was the icing to a tough girl during tough times
Never give up.
Ah, I miss the food in NYC.
She is fantastic women
I just posted some Chinatown and Koreatown videos. Support you local small businesses.
Little Saigon too. They had less than the Chinese and Korean when they came to the US
@@everstuck2430 I will go to Little Saigon next thanks
Hang in there success 🙌 is here 😁🙏
Asians are the hardest working group of people I know.

what kind of foood, in what city?
Instead of calling it terrorism, its anti Asian crime around the city. Uh. That's terrorism. Tell ya people. Read the labels. Decide to look for the products made in USA instead. "A few rotten apples spoil the bunch"...
Aunty Helen!! She's been on the youtuber Uncle Roger's food show
Omg this poor women, New Yorkers please support your business 🙃
viet food da best
seems like you're using the word "thrive" very generously here, TODAY
I keep thinking that guy second from the right is Spiderman...
Good for HER...she didn't cry and throw a tantrum like the Karens in California
Really, Grand opening on Friday the 13th.
This is a valuable lesson of never trust your government.
Move your restaurant to Texas and never have to worry about close down again. We are not like New Yorker lol, Covid19 for so long already.
Looks like an older version of Tom Holland
Did anyone else see a doppelgänger of Tom Holland?
