Thank you so much for sharing ❤
Happy to help 🙏🏼
Dude I like your vide ! I'm heading to Cambodia in 3 weeks !
Awesome! Will you be teaching over here?
@@ThatGuyInCambodia Yes! That's the plan brother 🙂
@@CC-ql6jr Awesome. Let me know how it goes. I think the links in the description should help
❤❤❤thank you
Love your country! Thanks for being so kind to us teachers. 🙏🏼🇰🇭🇺🇸
Currently studying in cambodia via scholarship...any tip for part time job to support myself would be a big help, will you also be doing video for part time jobs?
You can use the BongThom site to find part time jobs, just use it as one of the “filters” on your search.
Heyy, I’m an experienced English teacher. My UK degree is incomplete. Considered working in Thailand as it seemed easier to have a working visa than the confusing visa runs etc.. considering Cambodia now, maybe even just doing a degree over there. So my question is are you allowed to teach online on a general tourist visa in Cambodia? My TEFL doesn’t seem to be accredited so I would rather pay for a CELTA if I need to do another course…
Right now, tourist visa in Cambodia would involve lots of visa runs perhaps similar to what you saw required in Thailand. Teaching online wouldnt qualify for a business visa in Cambodia unless it was a Cambodian country that included a visa in your employment offer.
Thank you for your candor.
I recently returned from China 🇨🇳 after an eight year stint. Unfortunately, due to new legislation, foreigners over sixty are no longer eligible to work in China. Prior to China, I taught ten years in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
I’m not ready to retire. I would like to teach ESL English or primary mathematics in Cambodia 🇰🇭, however there are so many horrors with agencies that I don’t know where to begin anymore. Can you please advise.
I look forward to your reply.
I have Bachelor's Degree. Right after graduation, I taught English for 2 years in P. R. China. That was over 25 years ago. If I get a TEFL Certificate, what are the salary ranges in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap? How many hours do they expect you to teach per day? I am a bi-lingual native speaker of Khmer and American English. With housing and food, a salary of $1000 is doable. Without housing and food, I hoped for $1200 to $1500.
Bilingual is a huge plus, you could definitely expect $1000-1800. You would want to call and talk to several places. Siem Reap will pay less however cost of living is much less there.
How should you model your resume? I have a college advanced diploma in business administration, have started my own small business, been doing business planning and event planning for 7 years and finally got my TEFL. im trying to figure out how to draft my resume to make it look attractive even though I don't have any teaching experience. Im from Canada and moving to Cambodia in November.
This is a hard one. Just highlight the TEFL and any volunteer English teaching you have done. If you havent done any volunteer teaching start trying to teach someone today so you can reference this in your interview. As a teacher, I know that most of your educational expertise comes from classroom and private lesson experience.
Some people say you don’t need tefl . Ones saying that Id be afraid to hire them n I’m easy. So I’ll take your word on it sir. Can you suggest best tefl program that will can be geared with teaching for all age ranges
You need teaching experience more than Tefl. The tefl program is easy to get, it’s the experience and quality teaching (plus being willing to move to different school when your situation isnt desirable - or negotiate higher pay) that will land you a good paying job.
Do you have teaching experience?
If not, maybe get some sort of Certification like tefl or similar.
If you do have experience, just start applying!
I'm currently living in Chiang Mai moving to Siem Reap/Phnon Penh in about a week. I was told to get a work visa not tourist, but u have to have a legit job offer to get a work visa yes? Can I get a tourist visa then change to a work visa after I get employment? Thanx, Todd
Exactly! Get a tourist e-visa and then let your new job switch the visa to a business visa for you. If the tourist visa is about to expire and you dont have work, you can always take a little trip to a neighboring country and re enter on a new tourist visa.
Would it be hard to find a job in March considering schools new term begin in February? Since I could be getting to Cambodia in March or April
Places are hiring all the time. oct-may are prime hiring months (school year starts in Aug for many of the larger international schools) however i’ve received job offers throughout the year as many places have mid-year vacancies
@@ThatGuyInCambodia Thanks for letting me know, it's encouraging to know this information.
What do you like most about Cambodia in general?
The people. Kind, welcoming, community oriented. Depends on who you meet to a certain extent, but if you spend time in the villages, it is incredible.
If you are ever doing things at ICA or CBI, we can meet. I am a volunteer English teacher with Aof G.
Awesome! Thanks for commenting and thanks for your service here in Cambodia! I’ve been to ICA a couples times actually.
@ThatGuyInCambodia Thanks for the reply. Because I am retired and on ssi. I am able to volunteer and have no need to be paid. I am truly blessed to be able to do this in this great country.
@@Omanic71 Awesome way to spend retirement! Hope we run into one another soon.
I'm going there very soon. Is there a holiday in Christmas? Like a week or 2 off? And is schools pay holidays? Thank you!
Yes, as long as you are on a year+ contract most schools include paid holidays. If on a hourly rate, not likely. Most schools (especially the larger more reputable ones) would provide qualified teachers with paid holiday leave.
@@ThatGuyInCambodia I am now arrived in Cambodia, will start my search tmr!
How's the search going? I noticed there are still several open positions at schools around here. Let me know what you land.
@That Guy In Cambodia I actually land nothing haha. I spent a 1 day so far sending resume at 10+ schools and sent few CV by some of the FB groups. I got to offering of 800$ for teaching 6 classes a day which doesn't make any sense! Im still searching. Thanks for asking!
@@Johnnyrockenvoyage For sure. Give it two weeks of that kind of persistence and hopefully you can get some better options. Thanks for updating me bro.
Hey thank u for sharing 😊. Where u already in Cambodia when you were applying?
Not at first. Applied from abroad 👍 thanks fo watching!
What are the chances now or one is likely to get a job when in country?
High chances! Just apply to some of the places I mentioned and call around to schools!
Thank u very much for ur advise. Take care till the next amazing video.
I have a BS in Elementary Education, an Associates in Psychology, About a total of 7 years working in and for Chinese education companies, Taught in USA, Mexico and China, Head -of School in China, judged "English Speech Contest, Taught at Foreign Language High School in China - coached their English Speech Team, developed new English programs to market to businesses for new students, wrote text books for private company running multiple schools... BUT.... I am 79 years old - GOOD HEALTH but had stop playing soccer! AT MY AGE, CAN I GET A TEACHING POSITION IN CAMBODIA???.
Certainly could get a job here. Especially if you have some experience with asian culture, you could appropriately reach out to educational institutions here. Highlight your experience to get the interview, let them see your experience rather than age.
@alancranford2024
Best of luck to you.
Over the past 26 years, I have taught ESL in Canada, Korea, Saudi Arabia, & China. I may apply to teach in Cambodia. But I, too, wonder if age might go against me: I'm 72.
Good luck to you, & kindly keep us posted on your progress.
Hello, I have a degree and TEFL but I’m a non - native English Speaker from Nigeria, are African qualified English teachers hired in Cambodia?
Yes, qualified African teachers are certainly hired here. While Cambodia may not be as popular of a destination for teachers from Africa, I have worked with several African co-workers in Cambodia. Sending a 1min video of you speaking fluently and talking about your teaching techniques goes a long way in helping your application. Let me know how it goes Kelly. Blessings
do you have a college degree and do you work at an international school? can you get a job at an international school without a degree? i have seen positions at international schools where they will teach for expample , math and another course. are these positions for english speaking teachers and is the secondary course english classes? what is a typical work week like for a english teacher with a degree vs. without a degree? thank for your informative video
Lots of good questions. I do have a degree and am a certified teacher. This helps me get jobs at higher paying schools. Plenty of international schools you would work at without a degree, depending on qualifications, experience and what the school requires. Yes, if they are teaching math, biology or other subjects at an international school it is most likely in English and most likely middle school or high school /secondary.
Also, your work week with or without a degree might be similar. With a degree you'd be at a higher performing school, get a higher salary but perhaps working more hours and the job could be much more demanding. These are generalizations though, lots of room for variation.
I have 128 hours from a State University. I am a Historian and learn languages fast. I am an ancient Historian and greatly interested in Angkor Wat civilization. How do I apply. I'm 58 years old. I have taught at the middle school level. How can I apply.
You should join the Cambodian military for a day and do a video on that
What if I did but am not allowed to post the video… 😶🌫️
@@ThatGuyInCambodia Bribe them it works all the time ;)
Hi I'm non-native English speaker, would like to teach English in Cambodia, my partner who's not having a degree, can he teach English with a Diploma?
It may be hard to find an English job without a degree, however there are volunteer gigs that exist for that. After some experience you can go for other English jobs.
You can still call or apply to schools though and see what they say.
@@ThatGuyInCambodia Thanks for the response, I appreciate the tip 👍
Happy to help. And remember you can always call some of those smaller schools and see what they have available
@@ThatGuyInCambodia Will definitely do, thanks for your help. Perhaps, can you do a video where you compare Thailand and Cambodia in terms of teaching jobs? All things; including hiring, salaries, accepting of foreigners, safety ect. Thanks...
@@jessicahijarunguru4117 I've never taught in Thailand but if I have a guest that'd be a great comparison. From what I have heard it is similar teaching in Thailand. Higher paying jobs that require more qualifications in cities, lower pay but lower requirements the farther from cities you are. For safety, I'd recommend getting a job first so that they help you settle in and they can guide you to what's safe and what's not.
Is it possible to get hired before moving there?
Absolutey! Happens all the time. Need to turn in a lot of applications though. Call numbers of places all over.
@@ThatGuyInCambodia Could you please provide a more up-to-date list of job/agency sites for us? Jora doesn't seem to be the go-to site anymore when I google "teacher jobs Cambodia."
@@AhmedEraj-fo7ou Yeah, Jora got discontinued in Cambodia recently. All the other places should be up to date. Will consider making a new video soon too! Thanks
Hey all Im actually moving to cambodia next month and going to do the work program with AVSE-TESOL (the job listed in the video on his job search) if any one wants to ask me questions about it my program starts febuary 5th
Awesome! I would enjoy asking some questions when you’re done to see if I can recommend it to others. Maybe we can arrange a chance to chat. DM me on my insta @that_guy_in_cambodia if interested
Hello I also would love to do that course with avse but my worry is job placement how fast can they place after.
Jora already suspended their services in Cambodia 😢
I just noticed that last week! Thanks for letting me know :(
Greetings pls am in Africa am a bachelor's degree holder and a trained grade I teacher with 13yrs experience am in a search of a school which can sponsor my travel and deduct the money once I start working
That bongthom website is one of the best for those kind of schools. Jora doesnt work any more, the others are also good to put your application. Go for it!!
Is it possible to get a job without a degree but with a 120hr tefl certificate?
Yes! Fewer positions open with that degree but yes, there definitely are. Use some of the search engines i showed in the vid and let me know how it goes.
how to apply
Follow the links in the description OR just click on the jobs you like on the websites I show. Each school has a different process.
Can a transgender woman find a teaching job in Cambodia? I have a degree in Education. Thank you
I think Thailand may be more open to that. Even though many from a western culture see gender roles as a negative thing, for many Cambodian communities, gender roles can be useful and beautiful.
@@ThatGuyInCambodia so can I also apply in Cambodia? Because in Thailand it is hard to find job nowadays and I want to consider applying in Cambodia also, I am just worried if they will accept transwoman.
I hope you're not teaching English there? 'Expatriate' means someone who lives outside of the country of his birth. It can also be a verb. It has nothing do with 'patriotism'.
Ha for sure! That’s why I teach science 🫠
If I do teach English, very low level (for obvious reasons). Sounds like you should teach English here!
@@ThatGuyInCambodia haha i am going to explore the possibilities of teaching ESL in Southeast Asia next year.
Hello, I have a degree and TEFL but I’m a non - native English Speaker from Nigeria, are African qualified English teachers hired in Cambodia?
Absolutely! I've worked with several amazing teachers from Africa!
