I tend to agree with you, but it depends on how she had actually been treating him. It doesn't sound like he was even in her "friend zone." It sounds like she had been treating him with actual contempt.
Nothing wrong with being in the "friendzone". It only means that one of you likes the other in a way that's not reciprocated. It happens. Nobody likes everybody. What you SHOULD do is drop those feelings and know where you stand. Then y'all can remain friends while you both pursue people that are actually interested in you.
Where people fuck up is after finding out that their feelings aren't the same they still offer themselves to do the things that a boyfriend/girlfriend would do instead of only offering the mental and physical limits of what normal friends would do. Then, after pouring in what you feel is some sort of emotional equity, it never turns into the romance that you built up in your head and now you feel disdain for the other party because you've "wasted your time and got nowhere". But that's on you!
If someone says they're not "into you like that" no amount of pretending to be a boyfriend/girlfriend is going to change that. If you live in reality this whole thing is easy.

I have been telling men and my friends we (men) are the prize because based on the type of man you are will determine both couples status in life. There are some outliers but they usually die alone and wish they had a man. My neighbor across the street asked me out. She’s seen me for 10 years bringing different women to the house much younger and prettier than her. I never seen but one real old man over there once and he seemed like a drive by. I had 4 real relationships the minimum time I spent with any one was 1 year, and my last relationship lasted 4 years. My neighbor knows I’m responsible, have a beautiful home, cars, and no drama.

My last days of dating involved getting revenge on women. I know I’m ugly and corny. I would go on dates just to see if the woman would use me (100% of the women tried to use me). When the women asked me for favors, I would act like I was thrilled to help them, and then block them.
