My instructor tried to teach me this move and I had a very hard time getting it.......With your instructions, it has become a whole lot easier for me....thank you and please continue with your videos....
We exaggerate the moves so they are clearer for people watching the videos on what we are doing (bigger steps, slower movements, highly extended arms). For more information on how the supplemental video instruction differs from proper social dancing - visit our website. Thanks! :-)
Anthony is a very intelligent guy, who knows how to incorporate the concepts of physics into salsa dancing. I actually have the cultural awareness and blood thing working for me in salsa, but I also have good physics knowledge and have to commend Anthony for his appropriate use of the concepts of physics.
I love your videos and the way you explain all the moves. I startd on 1 than on 2 which is the one I dance most of the time now but since I started teaching recently I realized that on 2 is much harder for beginners. So for that purpose I'll start teaching on 1 again. Your vidoes really help refresh my memory. Thank you Guys!
What I like about your videos is that I watch them here at college and we aren't allowed sound but you explain it in such a way that its still understandable... I'm just too lazy a poor to buy earphones.
Yes, you could start on count 8 as long as it doesn't affect the follow's timing while she's rotating. However, getting to the 'slingshot' earlier causes you to lose a bit of momentum (since you finish earlier and the slingshot does not happen right away out of the rotation). Note that USING COUNT 8 is what will help you do a 360 in the future.
Anthony, Started following your video recently and surprised that i missed them so long. They are cool patterns. Its a very good style of teaching, where you dance the pattern first ad then break them in small bits!
You could start this move on count 8 as long as it doesnt affect the follows timing while shes rotating (if done improperly, it will cause her to shuffle her feet to keep up with you - not very pleasant for her). Doing it on 8 will help you get to the slingshot part earlier - however, that will cause you to lose a bit of momentum because, since you finish earlier, you cannot immediately use the force generated from the rotation because you have to wait 1 count before continuing.
She'll make it very far, because she has got a lot of grace in her style and personality (also a cutie, hopefully she reads this) and i won't wonder if one day you guys open up a salsa school :)
Thank you for the videos I have learn alot in a short period of time. You guys are great. Thanks again. for showing us how to dance. Have Fun................
I love your videos. They're clear, concise and entertaining. Please, oh please do one on a CBL to 360! I have yet to find a tutorial that does it justice. I know you guys won't let me down :)
Excellent video explaining both verbally and visually how to do the move. In addition to Cross Body Lead 180 and Coca Cola, I understand another name for it is Progressive Cross Body Lead. Anyway, I may be ready to test this out, successfuly, on the dance floor after watching this video, having attempted it unsuccessfuly on previous occasions!
@jayroo10 what you mean is on2 "palladium style" also known as "power on 2". Anthony and Julie are dancing to the on2 "mambo-tipico". Both are breaking on2. Breaking means the direction changes. The main difference is the "pause". "Power on2" starts with left foot forward. The counts are breaking on2,3,4,pause,breaking on 6,7,8,pause. Nice to dance because you can feel the conga ("bum bum") better. This on2 starts with left foot backward on1,breaking on2,3,pause,5,breaking on 6,7,pause. cheers
Stepping forward with your left foot on2 is Puerto Rican style - which it called 'Dancing on Men's Timing'. In NY style, (as politeness to our ladies), men start back with the right on count 2 (called "Ladie's Timing"). Note that the steps are exactly the same - it is just a matter on how you start. Either timing is interchangeable.
Hi Anthony. Thanks again for a great move. Just one pointer: it would be useful if you explained the guy's lead a bit more, in particular the left arm's involvment in initiating the lady's turn.
Search for a few Milton Cobo videos and watching rotate around the girl (the girl being the pivot point) for a full 360 degree rotation. The problem is that most people count the final 'cross-body' lead as part of 360, but that is incorrect, Cross-Body lead is a LINEAR movement (on a slot), not a ROTATIONAL one (around an axis).
Been following your videos long time now. Even have it subscribed here. Can you do a video with more detailed explanation of the two count. Like basic stuff on the 2 count.
Hola, como esta mi querido amigo no me canso de ver sus videos aca en Panama, quisiera tenerlos todos desde el nivel de principiante y avanzado. Espero este bien y familia y seres queridos. por lo ocurrido en Puerto Rico. Saludos. espero me consteste.
i've found the "cross behind" (@ 4:35) to be easier executed when i make an extended step around her on 7 with my right foot (as she is turning). it was tough at first but one day i was dancing and was unaware that i was doing it. it wasn't until i played back the video that i realized that i was actually back-crossing.
Are there any salsa dance studios in westchester where people can learn or practice dancing salsa? I would really like to know, this dancing is cool dude, almost like tap dancing.
"rubber band" effect, as u call it, is fun when dancing. lol. i also thought of the girls' styling not only for styling, but for the girl to be able to get her arm out of a knot. an example would be that if she didn't raise her arm while being spun, her arm would be closed in during the actual cross body lead itself, instead of her raising the arm on1 or on6 and having the arm be in the correct place and more free during the cross body lead. just my thoughts...hope that made sense:/ great video!
We dance the introduction of the video in On2 timing (Eddie Torres / NY Style), we explain the move in On1 timing and do it at the very end again for the On2 counts. Please note that the cross-body leads are happening on count 2, which is a clear indication we are dancing On2 (clave). When dancing On1, the cross-body lead happens on count 5.
Thanks a lot for the videos. I've already bought the iphone app but I could not find anything about 360 move. So, could you record a video teaching the 360 move.
Yes, you can reveal the "secrets". These aren't that secret of videos. Our mission is to make salsa accessible to anyone in the world (and hopefully free - we try to survive on donations). The more people learn about our website and our videos, the bigger the world salsa dance scene (more people dancing)!
Hey Anthony! Hi, first time commenting to your videos, no doubt you are a great mentor and deliver very useful info and tips... Now comming to my point! Did you just say BEFORE SHE IS LAUNCHED OUT! Do you think she is a rocket? ;)
maybe worth pointing out that the girl pushing her left hand up on 1 (in the middle of this turn) isn't just optional styling. Many of the followers I know aren't used to putting their LH up at the end of a CBL inside turn - in which case this move won't work...
That's what I've wanted to know!! actually, many salseros are using this lead here(korea). but nobody can easily teach how to do it. THANKS sooooooooooooo much!!! ps. I was told this lead "Whipping". does this name work other salsa scene?
@Blauestieg911: if you are referring to Anthony's shoes, they look like that. I have a pair just like them. It does look like flip flops w/ socks but not. :)
How about I answer this question over in our 'social' site so that others can comment and respond. See the end of the video for details on how to ask questions on any move. Thanks!
Just because everyone once said the Earth was flat, didn't make it not round (spherical). I'm sure once people start applying basic geometry and kinematics to dancing, they will realize it was a simple mistake on the terminology it was taught with originally (like teaching Cha-Cha on1). You can teach it as "360", but as for me, I'd like my "students"/friends to use correct terminology when teaching it others since dance and math are related.
so this is the correct way to dance on2? I see many people that dance on2 stepping forward with their left foot on2 beat, and on3 step on the spot, and bring the left foot back on4, then pause on 5, and step back with the right on6, so this is the incorrect way to dance on2??? hey when u say break on 4, do u mean pause on 4 without stepping correct?? thanks for this
would you call it a cross body lead plus 360? I felt like I have learned this whole thing in two parts, the first one was the simple cross body lead followed by a 360 degrees with a leg hook.
i don't know why people think this is 360 degrees. Looks like 180 degrees to me, at least for the cross body lead. Oh and anthony are you going to the Sydney Salsa Congress? lol
I sort of like to know the name of every maneuver for easier reference and memory retention. I sort of notice there are three maneuvers here . The 180 and Turning Cross Body Lead , The Spring Action and Cross Body Lead again, no turn. I see three movements or maneuvers here. Hope I'm right, or did I crash? Just did it, dividing the maneuvers. Thanks....
I like these videos, but one big thing here that is confusing me is the very last step "1". His left foot is back on "1" where as it is usually forward. Is there a transition after that or do you continue on doing the counts with the opposite leg?
In this move the momentum usually carries you backwards. You can just do the first three steps with the left foot backwards and then go back into your normal basic. There are also a few moves that start with the lead starting is basic backwards, like a lady turn over the first three steps. So you can give her the space she needs for her steps there.
I feel like I get the footwork, but i can't lead it for crap. I seem to lose the lead unless I fully detail what the follow has to do beforehand, and even then, it doesn't feel as fluid as you guys look.
Is Julie wearing the mic? lol... you sound far away half way through the turn. Also, this move is what I've always referred to as the 360 AND as the Coca Cola. I can't find any 360 videos or examples that are different from what you're teaching.. I really want to see the 360 you're talking about. Where can I see an example?
I've been searching for the video that teaches the cross body lead with turn.. Where is it :(? Can't move on without learning that first! Somebody help me!
Some years ago, I was trying to do this exact video, but it did not work. Now with much experience, I see why... The counting in slow motion is completely different from what they explain when they dance fast. In slow motion, he says, when the girl is turning( watching opposite of you)... step on 1 (Impossible to do it ). If you want to do this trick, just see from min 2:44 til min 2:55.. that#s the correct counting
That is incorrect. The lady is the pivot axis (center of the circle) and the guy only moves 180 degrees on that axis. Therefore 360 is the incorrect terminology. Note that some people consider the cross-body lead at the end, part of the move, but it is not, because the cross-body lead is LINEAR movement, not a ROTATIONAL one. There are 360 degrees in a circle. For a real 360 degrees cross-body lead, see videos with Milton Cobo.
My instructor tried to teach me this move and I had a very hard time getting it.......With your instructions, it has become a whole lot easier for me....thank you and please continue with your videos....
I ve learned with many instructors but you are by far the best.
You can not only dance. You can also teach very well!!
Thx for the videos :)
We exaggerate the moves so they are clearer for people watching the videos on what we are doing (bigger steps, slower movements, highly extended arms). For more information on how the supplemental video instruction differs from proper social dancing - visit our website. Thanks! :-)

Anthony, love everything you've done on you tube, you guys rock..............from FL.......
Great Job, is really useful and not too complicated.
I've been watchin' your videos 4 a while.
keep posting guys!!! it's sound like an american initiative but u guys show some "sabor" and "ritmo" while dancing... congrats for the work done!
People should say that more often. Julie doesn't get enough good comments.
Thank you for the videos I have learn alot in a short period of time. You guys are great. Thanks again. for showing us how to dance. Have Fun................
Thanks for putting this up! my salsa instructors say I'm too novice to learn it...you guys and I proved them wrong hahaha =]
I love your videos. They're clear, concise and entertaining. Please, oh please do one on a CBL to 360! I have yet to find a tutorial that does it justice. I know you guys won't let me down :)

The behind the leg tip on the 1 is very useful indeed. It causes you to get into perfect position on 2.

what a great lesson. Good energy, good dancing, to the point.
Thank you for the video, salsa lover from Mongolia....
where do dance salsa in mongolia?
Very good videos! It is complicated, but praticing it would be easy! I love their style.
Hi Anthony. Thanks again for a great move. Just one pointer: it would be useful if you explained the guy's lead a bit more, in particular the left arm's involvment in initiating the lady's turn.
nice videos man!! they help me alot in my social dancing and in my salsa classes. keep up the awsome videos!!
Yes. If you go to our webpage using the link in the description - we provide a direct link to the song in iTunes.

I like the video very much. Good way to explain a difficult figure!
Hope to see more from you :-)
That is very useful information. I might make closed captions for our videos for those who may not have sound. Thanks - good feedback.

That would be good. But I also like your little side notes which sometimes go off on tangents.
Very clear. Great teaching.
starting fwd on 2 for the man is the proper way. its done in salsa along with mambo in the professional ballroom circuit
Very nice. I like that he uses lots of technical terms. It makes it much easier for me to understand what is going on :)
@nickyjam770 We do the same move NY Style On2 at the very end of the video.
Anthony, excelente trabajo!!... podrias decirme como se llama la salsa q usas al principio de este video?
they are grait dancers and very good teachers!!!
to dance salsa u need to feel the music feel the bass feel the rhytm feel and this will help u alot!
oh you make me jealous, you are both so great.. i'll keep on tyring I so want this!

Look at the popups in the video. :-)
@tallpaulhutch75 : Yeah i agree. I've noticed that their hands stay down even when NOT executing the 180
We are planning to shoot this episode soon. Thanks! If you have any other suggestions, let us know at our website!

Great input!
Thank you so much for this video it is simple for me now :) :) :) :)
I'm sorry...but can anyone explain me the diff between on2 and on1 please?' I'm new at this salsa world...
Btw...Anthony, you'r amazing!!!
whats the name of the song at the begining of the video?
by the way love your videos

@apersaud Anthony, where did you get that T shirt from? I would love to have it too :-)
Thanks, Anthony!

Hi! I need this on2 please
It's not explaining the footwork for the last 5,6 and 7...
I've looked up the song by the name that it has on the pop up and I cant find it. Are you sure thats the name?
I've been searching for the video that teaches the cross body lead with turn.. Where is it :(? Can't move on without learning that first! Somebody help me!
