Agreed. Obviously it isn’t the same as the original but it’s a great cover. They have good music taste and I gots to say that’s what I appreciates about them.
add weezer to the list of ga ga prince NIN oh the list is endless right through to the dance djs who have paid homage to the geneous that is gary numan
This is a great version and I love Weezer, but it is not as great as the live version from Numan's "Hope Bleeds" DVD, check that out. It is in the related video section. IMHO the best Gary Numan cover is "Down in the park" by the Foo Fighters.
It's Patrick and Scott singing with both of them swapping leads. You can basically tell that it's them by their voices. I don't hear very much of Rivers and Brian in the song at all.
My one criticism of this cover is that Cuomo’s timing is off on the “so now I’m alone”/“so I found out your reason” parts, but that’s about it. Excellent cover overall.
Every version I hear is awesome in it's own way, IMO. Original - classic synth pop/alt. rock InfoSoc version - awesome industrial rock Dead Weather - psychedelic Weezer - Somewhere between original and dead weather
Dead Weather is ok, Weezer, if you are listening, this is a pretty frivolous version of a deep and emotional song. Transpac Alliance version trumps both.
This isn't bad... at least it takes the song seriously compared to that Nancy Boys bouncy overly silly, bubble gum pop version. Don't get me wrong, I also really like Weezer, but this is far from them at their best.
Just reafirms how UNORIGIONAL some of these current bands are.....DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND LISTEN TO THE ORIGIONAL STUDIO VERSION FROM GARY NUMAN. This version totally LAME
Who the heck was having a grand mal seizure at the sound mixer? The volume levels were a mess, the vocals: unadulterated, narcissistic, off-key dweebness! Phlegm-filled wheezing has more panache than pretense-filled Weezer. The musical arrangement was a 3rd rate, note-for- note imitation of the original. There have been many re-dos and/or samplings from the prolific genius that is Gary Numan. This is one of the worst. Certainly not a worthy tribute to a vastly superior artist.
For those who are nagging you should instead appreciate the fact that weezer payed tribute to a great band !!
Uh, this just sounds like shit.
Agreed. Obviously it isn’t the same as the original but it’s a great cover. They have good music taste and I gots to say that’s what I appreciates about them.
The only cover of Are Friends Electric that doesn't make me instantly angry. You can always count on Weezer.
Who else has covered it?

Great to see "new" bands paying homage to the old legends.
The original version is one of my 'goosebumps' songs, and this version gave me the same feeling.
This is way better than any of my expectations, well done
Not a big fan of weezer, but this cover is amazing!! Great tribute to Gary numan
fantastic band putting a wonderful spin on a classic tune.
I have to give this a thumbs up! Great cover...this was a pleasant surprise!!! 🤘
Pretty cool cover track! Always good to see new bands keeping classic Numan music alive.
so unlike the original which makes it brilliant, im even happier that Gary Numan is finally being recognised for his accomplishments
Bass player at 3:30 - "Wait, we're not playing that part? Fuck, I thought we were playing that part. I hope they'll edit that out."
I get the impression there was considerable alcohol imbibed prior to this recording.
Dziban Molniya nah scott just sucks at bass obviously
ha! good catch
Hahaha, spot on!
As covers go, this is quite probably the best one I've heard for a long time
It's by "Tubeway Army" The lead singer was Gary Numan so I think you got the vibe of the song right.
love love love love love this song
love both original and this!!!!!
Great cover. Bass thumps and cool sounding snare...
this is the most awsomest song EVER and y'all are the greatest band for covering it :)
no. greatest band for covering it is Republica
Gen X: This is a Gary Numan original!!
Millenials: This a theme from Need for Speed!!
Weezer covering a Tubeway Army song...Yes!
add weezer to the list of ga ga prince NIN oh the list is endless right through to the dance djs who have paid homage to the geneous that is gary numan
To answer to your question, I like Weezer the best. I grew up listening to them for years. I really like there style.
Love the song, love Weezer
this sounds live. It's not a studio mastered version so chill out people. It's fine on its own merits.
Yes, it's taken from a live show
It still freaking sucks
Republica has done a cover of this song. So far the best I've heard.
I LOVE this song and I think that it's is a pretty good version tbh
The Dead Weather (Jack Whites new band) also covered this for a b side.
Good cover! I really like it! NUMANNNNNNNNN
this bass line is amazing. wow. rad cover.
18 of Gary Numan's friends aren't electric.
45 now,bunch of meatbags
Really a great interpretation of Numan's orginal.
an awesome homage
sounds like a lot of Brian singing, awesome cover too
Excellent cover.
It's still only a cover -- but it's still good.
they're gonna play this on the memories tour. I'm stoked
Yes they are
great song!
This is ONE SICK COVER.
good cover.
Yeah, I heard they covered Oddfellows local 151 for a Red Album B-side, but I have yet to hear it.
This is a great version and I love Weezer, but it is not as great as the live version from Numan's "Hope Bleeds" DVD, check that out. It is in the related video section. IMHO the best Gary Numan cover is "Down in the park" by the Foo Fighters.
good cover!
WOW!!! Excellent cover!
5 stars..
64m >:-)
It's Patrick and Scott singing with both of them swapping leads. You can basically tell that it's them by their voices. I don't hear very much of Rivers and Brian in the song at all.
I know it’s Brian on vocals, but is Pat also on vocals?
First time I've heard this and I just used the original in my new video, see my uploads, November 2018
@wookiesack What makes music that uses a keyboard less real than other kinds?
cover of a new wave classic by gary numan...
=w=
Easy there comic book guy!
My one criticism of this cover is that Cuomo’s timing is off on the “so now I’m alone”/“so I found out your reason” parts, but that’s about it. Excellent cover overall.
That's actually Brian Bell, usually just the backing vocalist but this is one of his very rare times as lead.
this was good but I prefer the original
Pretty decent version imo.
Wonder what sir gary numan thinks of this, pretty good.
Cool cover
I like their take. just needs to be played a bit slower. dem keys supposed to be syrup lush infection
Sounds like the whole group is taking leads on this one.
I almost replied to my own post. Still brilliant!!!!
Who's cover is better, Weezer or the Dead Weather? I say the Dead Weather.
Information Society :P
Every version I hear is awesome in it's own way, IMO.
Original - classic synth pop/alt. rock
InfoSoc version - awesome industrial rock
Dead Weather - psychedelic
Weezer - Somewhere between original and dead weather
+tunis5000 Abso-freaking-lutelty!!!
Dead Weather's version is terrible.
Gary Numan would be proud of this.
Better than Republica.
Do you have their cover of REM's odfellows local 151?
its an alright cover, very comparable in my opinion to dead weathers.
honestly, I would put the vocals fo this version to the version of gary numan
This song is rad. A la The Pixies in combination with Devo ( I don't know how accurate that is, the only think I could think of).
good cover
Rivers Nomo??
bit harsh, gary numans version is obviously better, but what is the harm in a good band paying homage to a great song and artist???
I miss that sensation the original gave me...
It's missing the right emotion...?
Not bad, but not extraordinary. The original is darker, and majestic.
i don't entirely know how i feel about this.
well, at least i don't hate it.
@wookiesack gary numan was great...and 'real'. I fail to follow your "logic"...
Gary Numan IS great and real.
Dead Weather is ok, Weezer, if you are listening, this is a pretty frivolous version of a deep and emotional song. Transpac Alliance version trumps both.
Think I would rather here a Rentals cover of this.....
Sounds very much like Nancy Boys cover of Are Friends Electric
Hmmmmm....
I´d buy "Brian Bell alone"^^
This isn't bad... at least it takes the song seriously compared to that Nancy Boys bouncy overly silly, bubble gum pop version.
Don't get me wrong, I also really like Weezer, but this is far from them at their best.
@tellyheads your program will never reach line 30.
who is singing here?
Gary Cuman?
WEEZER rocks this song!!! Just as good if not better than the original.
texas so called friends cover anyone ?
nope
See Ukelele w/bon Scots
Dead weather cover is better!
No
A good try :) I prefer the original drummer
Are Friends Electric, Gary Numan. Republican no. Groove Armada hell no. Oh no would you all just stop it please
Uuuuihhhhmmmmm. Not quite exciting.
Terrible
bad
LOL
Just reafirms how UNORIGIONAL some of these current bands are.....DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND LISTEN TO THE ORIGIONAL STUDIO VERSION FROM GARY NUMAN. This version totally LAME
eeeek...terrible cover.
Who the heck was having a grand mal seizure at the sound mixer? The volume levels were a mess, the vocals: unadulterated, narcissistic, off-key dweebness! We're all entitled to our opinions, I guess....wanker
Politely says 'aye, that's great' while heading for the exit to escape this utter, total shite
