  • The price of this reel has gone way up since I ordered it on Amazon but here it is: geni.us/GalvhQk
    E-Z Trout floats: geni.us/U7xkguZ
    KA-Bar Kaster: geni.us/FoOhm
    Maxpedition Barnacle pouch: geni.us/gDoL
    Video of the Ka-Bar Kaster on my channel.
    The Yoyito reel is a great option if you're looking for a slimline 'hobo' handline and I will soon be making a video showing all the handlines I have and rating them based on sensible criteria.
    Thanks for watching.
    P.S. what the heck was that jumping out of the pond near the start???.....it is nowhere near the biggest fish in this pond, lol

    The holes on the back of the reel are for slack line fishing not to hold the hook 🪝 regards mike

    I had one of these sent over from Benny a few years ago and fish with it from the beach out the back of my house here on Ynys Mon, 50m casts into the surf is an easy thing. I've had everything from dogfish to bass on it- it's a perfect size to fit into (another difficult to find now) Maxpedition can case with room for tackle and tools

      Yes, the older Maxpedition pouches are becoming very difficult to find yet they are great quality. I bought most of my pouches second hand on ebay.

    Regarding the holes on the edge, the designer said they are not for hook keepers, they are to secure the reel to something for 'unattended' fishing.
    Nice idea with the barnacle pouch and the retention strap of paracord.
    Keep fishing!

      That makes sense but it definitely would have been handy to have more holes for the option of storing the hook.
      These types of reels are handy to leave set up so that in a survival situation they could be used one handed if necessary.
      The last video I did on the channel had a collection of different reels, telescopic rods and bushcraft fishing tools and I rated them based on various criteria - it's a long video but would be of interest if you're looking into different compact fishing kits.

    I have one and love it. Just a suggestion, im right handed so what I do is hold the line with my left between my finger and thumb and keep some tension on it between there and the reel then when I reel in I move the reel around the line. Think playing the violin and eating a bowl of soup. I'm so not making sense. Sorry mate, cheers!!

      That's a sturgeon I didn't even realize was in the pond - I know there's one which must be close to 6 feet but this smaller one went in many years ago as a sickly bent fish along with some carp someone brought to put in the pond. Until about a year ago I just assumed that it had died but it seems to have gone from strength to strength in here.

    Doesn't it cut your hands up to grab the line in by hand instead of around the spool?
    For sure do that though? Thanks for the info

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare  24 дні тому

      Yes you can cut into your hands if you pull a fish in just using the line but only when the line is quite thin - that's why most people use 10lb-12lb line (or even heavier) on these types of reels.
      For the fish I target the line needs to be thinner since they will be able to see it.

    That tool looks like hemostats to me. If not, hemostats are a great substitute.

    The holes, as others have commented on, are for slack line fishing. To store the hook on the reel: as you wind the line in, and you have about ten inches of line off the reel, wrap the the line over your pointer finger that's holding the reel and then back toward yourself, reversing the direction of winding. Go around the reel then hook the hook through the loop that's around your finger. Slip the hook around the reel to tighten the line up. This way you don't need a line tender. The designer of the Yoyito demonstrates this on his channel I believe.

    Nice review! Just checking: This is your pond, right? If so, it keeps evolving! Beautiful!

      Yes, it is very overgrown at present but looks very natural.

      @@ThousandYardStare In high school British Literature, we learned that look was attributed to the Romantic Era! (At that time, I remember kind of fancying the romantic style as opposed to the tightly manicured look!)

    Great video! You may cover this in the future video, but how do you feel the Yoyito compares to the Xreel? I’ve heard the smaller diameter of the Xreel makes it a bit more ineffective vs. a traditional Cuban hand reel (which the Yoyito is closer to). Thanks!

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare  2 роки тому

      Yes that is a problem but the same problem is apparent with the Yoyito reel too. I will be doing a long comparison video very soon on all the hand reels I have but my favorite is most definitely the Ka-Bar Kaster. It just feels 'right'.

    • @charlies_world5733
      @charlies_world5733 2 роки тому

      @@ThousandYardStare which is interesting, because the Kabar doesn’t have a massive diameter either. Maybe it’s the handle? Looking forward to the comparison - thanks again and take care!

      @@charlies_world5733 I'm working on the criteria and score chart right now, lol
      The handle of the Ka-Bar makes it much more natural to use, faster to wind back onto and faster to land a fish if played 'on -the-reel'
