Idk how I feel about Fields
Hard to imagine Steelers doing bad enough anytime soon to draft a top QB.
    I want a WB worth 25 million.
    The turnovers seem anti-Tomlin.
The indecisiveness, pocket awareness & foot placement is what I tired of seeing with Pickett.
Really great work on this one. I really liked how you had so many examples. Obviously it was a lot of work.

@@Steelers_DB*Let's have a REAL convos about Kenny Pickett, Derek. Also I rate the USC and LSU QB in Tier 1 with the Michigan QB in Tier2 with Mayle from UNC. Yes JJ McCarthy is a super stud imo and has all the traits for today's QB. Think Trevor Lawrence meets Jordan Love, with a splash of some quick twitch speed like a Aaron Rodgers*

In this draft, despite the people saying it knowing that at his first school Bo Nix had a coach that hated him & deliberately called plays accordingly, people still refer to how bad he played at that school to say he's bad now. Not to speak about him overcoming adversity, not to say it was the coach's fault even though they know it was.
This is an ugly insight into human nature. With Fields, you have to understand several things. He's been bending over backwards to please his coaches in the NFL & Nothing Has Worked. & none of it is due to him. It's been them from Day One.
Nagy refused to allow him to practice with the receivers At All before he had to play him. Can't _possibly be_ Fields' fault. I can link a video of his INTs from that year to show you something buy it's Yt so you can look it up. Most of those go right to the receivers. Who fall down, forget to run their routes & give up, & in 3 cases, hit them in the hands.
You know what the fans did? Blamed Fields.
There seems to be something intrinsic to American culture, an insecure tendency to Blame The Victim. It's like watching a crappy made for TV high school drama. No one empathizes with the villain _in movies._ In real life, Americans act exactly like them. I went back & looked at his breakout college game. The first 12 passes he throws are all to routes the Bears run, only his receivers in college *caught* those passes. The Bears drop them. Not his fault. He got blamed.
Now charisma plays a part. Eberflus seems to have it. (I have to say "seems to" because I am immune to the effects of it). The first game Fields stopped himself throwing to an open receiver was about week 4 of '22 & if it had been some panic reaction like Zach Wilson, passing the ball would have made more sense. But he looked _SO_ stunned & unnatural stopping himself it was like he saw a ghost! Everyone watching thought he might have been concussed to behave like that.
& then the Bears didn't take him into the blue tent even after he did this at least twice more the same game. How could Not One Staffer Or Player On The Entire Bears Team have thought he might be concussed _unless they _*_knew_*_ he wasn't?_
& how could they have _known_ he wasn't unless he was executing the plays as called? & the fans knew this because although they again blamed Fields, the most common meme at the time was that the Bears had to "do this" in order to simplify the offense for him. So even the people defending the Bears' coaches thought this was their doing, not Fields'
So now let's unpack this. They *ordered him to* not throw to certain receivers on certain plays. Please tell me how *_ANY_*_ QB can _*_possibly succeed under such circumstances?_*
Seriously. Tom Brady? Aaron Rodgers? What QB has ever had so many open receivers on every passing play they could just choose *in advance* not to throw to one because they knew for 100% sure they wouldn't be the *only one* to come open?
While Fields eventually figured out he did wrong by obeying these commands, the fan base just kept taking a dump *on him.* So imagine for a minute or five what this was all like for him. His teammates have to obey the HC to keep their jobs. Can't get support there.
The fans & media are perpetuating the BS that he can't read defenses. No support there. His own employer & GM watch all this, hear him publicly call it out (twice, once mid-'22, the other after week 2 of '23) & give him Zero Support. What do you do?
Cry? Make more public statements? Or do you keep trying to please Daddy & hope he'll abuse you less? He had Zero Support from anyone in any meaningful way. This made it clear to him he was out no later than week 6 of '22. Imagine having to play for someone, a whole organization that you know hates you & won't support or even deign to speak with you for over a year and a half.
That's gonna take its toll, no?
His footwork etc. has declined because of this & one other reason. I won't link it unless this channel's host says he's okay with me doing so, but I have a video made by a potentially competing channel (that's why I won't link it without permission) where you can see at least five plays where the o-line allows pass-rushers straight though to Fields untouched.
Not busted blocks: untouched. They 100% ignore the pass-rushers on these plays.
When that happens consistently but irregularly so that you never know when it won't, how tf do you know when you have the luxury to not have to scramble? & don't forget, this is happening *before his eyes!* He's seeing his own teammates do this to him.
He has an HC basically s****ing all over him publicly & getting away with it & his own o-line conducting plays that indicate they're either completely inept but being left in by that HC, or call me paranoid, following the plays designed by that HC (who makes it clear multiple times that yes, he does indeed meddle in offensive play-calling) to get him sacked. Put yourself in his position *while thinking about where you're placing your feet!*
While getting ready for a pass when getting ready for one might get you injured by an oncoming pass-rusher your o-line allowed through.
I think they may have damaged his confidence. & I don't know if either Smith or Tomlin can ever properly assess QB talent. So we don't even know if he'll get a chance to start again.
But I'll be watching for sure if he does.

I could live with fields but not for a 1st or 2nd rounder. Maybe a 3 and a 5? Or maybe fields for Diontae Johnson straight up and we use our 2nd on a WR. My preference is Russ Wilson competing with Kenny since I don’t see Fields getting us another Lombardi and he needs paid next year.

*Kenny Pickett. And for myself, someone who has studied the game for over 30 years, it's not even really a debate. Reasons being that the Arthur Smith Offense is a damn good fit for the Pickett skill set, and the Steelers Off Personnel. Plus we know what he did with Tannehill in Tennessee. But another reason that goes unmentioned is the way Pickett played in the 6 quarters after Canada was fired, before the injury. Kenny was turning the corner for sure and played prolly his best football, as far as the "passing game" But not only the way Pickett played without Canada, but also Pickett in the 4th quarter. That is when Pickett has played his best football and that's b/c the football was in his hands to make more decisions and control the game. The 4th Q was his Offense and less about the Play Calling or Scheme*
*I have seen a ton of good from Pickett in a ultra conservative, outdated Offense, that also was one of the youngest Offenses in the league. The battles or learning on the job while growing together was not only Kenny Pickett, but Pickens, Najee, Warren, Frieremuth, etc etc was also learning the NFL and still Winning games*

@@Steelers_DB*Well the Play-Action passing off of the Power Run game, will be just what QB Pickett needs. Big Ben has that his first few seasons in the league. We know what the Niners and Purdy do. Cousins has been one of the very best for years. And Tannehill was Top5 like QB those 2 seasons with Arthur Smith. But the way Smith uses the Personnel should be ultra versatile compared to what Pittsburgh has had the last few years. Heavy dose of TEs and the Fullback, or prolly the H-Back in Pittsburgh, Heyward Jr. I expect all 3 TEs to line up all over the formation, I including the backfield at RB. And the role carved out for Austin III interests me as he to should be used all over the formation. Bubbles, Smoke Screens, Jet Sweeps, Go balls, and Crossers. Put CA3 in Pre-Snap Motions/Shift and Orbit Motion too. Austin needs the ball in SPACE*

Kirk > Russ > Baker > Fields/Pickett for me. The age of our Defense dictates that we ought to be in win now mode (most notably 2-3 years of Watt in his prime). I certainly like the more established vets more. The upside of Fields is a good fit for Arthur Smith, but are the turnovers a fit for a Tomlin team that wants to play defense and win close? ~10 int and ~12 fumbles (~5 lost) every year. If we're gonna try to fix a guy who's too far into his career to have question marks, why not do that with Kenny and not give up the extra draft capital? If you move on from your first rounder Kenny and trade another first round pick for Fields... Well 2 first round busts at QB is how you destroy a franchise. So it's too big risk IMO.
*I do think Cousins and Mayfield are most likely re-signing with the Vikings and Bucs tho, so other than going after Wilson first, I wouldn't hate it if we did get Fields.

    • @Steelers_DB
      @Steelers_DB  7 місяців тому

Cousins is the best case scenario assuming he wants to leave MIN.
The turnovers w fields are tough. The fumbles bother me more than the INTs having watched all of em.

    • @erbsplays3869
      @erbsplays3869 7 місяців тому

@@Steelers_DB I just thought of this: Could you see a Fields trade that included Pickett? Like Bears get Kenny and a 2nd or 3rd and Steelers get Fields and a later round pick back? and then the Steelers re-sign Rudolph or maybe Tannehill. I have a hard time with Fields's steep trade cost on top of it all (the Falcons have a higher 2nd rounder, so I don't see us getting Fields for less than our 1st round pick unless we muddle it). I don't know if the Bears would care to have Kenny to bridge/backup, or what that value is to them.
But when another option is having the Broncos pay for Wilson to wear black and gold on vet minimum... I still favor that value.

22.00 that's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Fields' o-line regularly does the opposite of what a team trying to win would do. It's _SO_ obvious with them that I honestly suspect that the coaches are involved in an illegal gambling ring betting on how many times Fields gets sacked & paying their linesmen to help them win. Normally you only see this with one or two players on any line & only in a video about how those players need replacing. But with the Bears? "Do you think you can do that _again?"_
Yeah I'm pretty sure that setting him up to fail in multiple ways was intentional.

Even with some of his issues in the drop back game I think he's shown to already be a better player than Kenny Pickett and if i'm wrong and Kenny takes some huge leap then you lost a 3rd rounder and you now have a better QB situation.
