I have optic atrophy and am obviously very interested in developments. This video is already 3 years old so it would be great to have an update. Thank you to the researchers involved.

My brother has dominant optic atrophy (OPA1 gene) I have some minor optic issues but not enough to restrict my activities though.

I am having to follow the names and organizations. I can say stem cell and embryotic cells have played a role in the advancement of optic nerve / brain reintegration. I know there has been positive findings on how to control the regrowth of the optical nerve to keep it from growing deformed. Finding a Neuro ophthalmologist not overwhelmed by the demand for them is a job all by itself.
My son is totally blind right now due to optic nerve damage bec.of the glaucoma.what is the update of this researh.or any other treatment available today thank you
I’ve lost a lot of peripheral vision in one eye when my pressure went extremely high from glaucoma after being on drops for years. I had surgery and now have a bleb. I would be interested in participating in a clinical trial, if possible.

Sooner its to be used for glaucoma people who can hardly see, the better, glad someone is working on it, not like some eye hospitals i could mention in London.
After I hit my head the optic nerve of my left eye has been damaged I am currently undergoing treatment at Shankara Nethralaya Hospital Chennai the doctor has said that there is no chance of my sight regaining. I was wondering if there is any chance of the optic nerve getting better.
Dr. Dong Feng Chen at the Scheppens eye research institute at John Hopkins did some research into optic nerve regeneration through stem cells a few years back and they were able to regrow optic nerve from 5 to 7 mms in very controlled lab conditions. Please explain if anybody has found how to and is taking that experiment further. Stem Cells hold the keys to many of the hitherto difficult body ailments.

When optic nerve surgery is out and ready to perform on people, can the surgery be performed on patients whose injury happened long ago?
This would be amazing! My optic nerve was stretched quite a bit by a tumor which was non cancerous and which is now removed for about 20 years. My vision did get a little better but if this research could be perfected it would be great for me, I would love to have better sight!

David, once my glaucoma is under control how often will I need to take the nano drops?
My right eye was really bad to the point I couldn't see who I was talking to when they stood in front of me.
I am seeing eyesight improvement in that eye so I believe the nano drops and God's mercy are regenerating my optic nerves.

I have AION, I only see a little color around the outer regeion of my left eye, two years later, the right lower corner of right eye has greyed out. I am a diabetic, insulin dependent and I have high blood pressure. I have used DMSO on lids of eyes but with no hope. Now, I am so desperate, why not purchase a bottle of liquid ionic zink, dilute it with distilled water and directly apply it to eye. I have not been truly consisten with DMSO, I even applied full strength to my eyes but I saw weird cloud like floaters so I knocked off full strength of DMSO use. I do have minimal cataracts, I wonder if I can have them removed and have a lil more clear site. I am 60.
My wife lost sight to here eye d/t optic nerve damage caused by compression of that nerve. Can the process be reversed after 3 years?
How did the compression occur? I've been blind in one eye for 25 years without any real explanation from the Dr's. I've been fed all kinds of bs as to what caused my optic nerve to die.

Hello, My name is Noelle and I live in Washington State. I am 32 and was born with Optic Nerve Atrophy. Does any of this research pertain to individuals who were born with damaged Optic Nerves? There are several people in my family who are affected by this condition. We cannot figure out what caused our particular form of Optic Nerve Atrophy to be genetic. I'm happy to learn that at least research is going in a positive direction after so many years of being told that nothing can be done to help us. Any hopeful information is welcomed :) Thank you!

If a physically fit person can clear a headache by activating a blood flow equivalent to a brisk run around the block, so too perhaps a damaged or molested optic nerve can be restored somewhat or improved by causing a like blood flow by a form of exercise. This is a theory and surely, with a physician's approval worth testing. But first talk it over with a doctor or specialist.
depends on the damage. If we are talking about glaucoma you have to weight the risks as increasing blood flow increases IOP and thus can damage the nerve.

June 23rd, to anyone who can respond does the antibacterial liquid given at the time of cornea and glaucoma surgery stay in the eye or doesn't enter the bloodstream. I was told by the attendant to my doctor that the antibacterial solution does not enter the bloodstream because I know from my own research that antibacterial solutions destroy the microbiome.
Many doctors say or think that eye drops in the eye do not affect people systemically (in their body) but they are wrong. When I take antibiotic eye drops I am allergic to them and my blood pressure can go to 212/122 and it takes me maybe a few months to get it back down to 120's 130's over 80s or 90s. Eye drops certainly get in the blood stream of the body. In high school it was known that one could put LSD drug paper in their eye and get hallucinogen intoxication in the brain. So yes eye drops go to the blood stream.
@@thornyturtleranch6152drops can have effects like any medication. But usually effects are not as important as it can be with oral medications. Putting your finger at the bottom corner of your eyes to tap the lacrimal canal for a few minutes after putting the drops will help the medication not to enter your system.

What is the relationship between optic nerve and the retina
Prof. David Sinclair's laboratory in Harvard University has already totally regenerated optic nerves in animals. According to him, human trials will begin in a year or two.

Not exactly. His treatment aim to enhance existing optic nerves.
When damage can not be repaired, optic netve must be replaced, stem cells are needed.

I have seen plenty of articles on cell regeneration and it seems to be a real thing. Why then is no of our great medical "establishments" in the U.S.A. making this a priority. They should be working with , or at least getting information from, places like the Savir Center in Germany which is using microcurrent therapy to reactivate the cells in the retina, much like this guy is talking about here.
If I could afford to go to Germany I would. It is unbelievable that this is not made available elsewhere. Doctors here in the U.S.A. have to get wit the times, stop treating the symptoms and actually get to the root of the problem with our eyes which is cell regeneration.

I have lost about 60% of my vision in the left eye due to optical nerve damage. My vision is like looking at the sun then looking away..The neurologist told me that the damage was caused by sleep apnea causing a mini stroke. The damage is permanent.

vision restoration to optic nerve regeneration is the title. We are in May 2024, 8 years!!! and nothing concrete. Essays that last decades and are not published. Rehearsals are very slow. It seems that the slowness is due to the business of drops, lasers and implants. 8 years!!! and they always say "very soon." It's frustrating
