R.I.P. Jim Durkin, fly high to greater heights😢
Thanks for sharing. I had no idea.
For those interested, Jim's wife set up a go fund me page. I'm sending some in shortly, and hope some other DFA fans do the same, if they have not already...

Fly higher indeed.... and rest in upmost of peace .
Love how Gene plays these tunes as if it was nothing... such a monster!
and he is precise, an atomic clock
Wow Gene's Wife can really play! Pretty cool they popped up out of nowhere for this. Eagerly awaiting the new material.
New material lol
Dark Angel is working on an album to be released 2023. And they will be on tour playing festivals in Europe. I saw the article on their Facebook page for November 2022. 🤘🎸
Is it me or does she look a little like a guitar playing Cher? That isn't necessarily a bad thing. Cher is 77 and rocking in her own way, ya know...
I just love the fact that Gene's wearing sunglasses again! He's so bad ass!
Think he's eyes problems. ((
They are prescription sunglasses😀👍
Well, maybe today, but not in 1989 when I saw them a couple of times...😎
"No one answers" one of the most awesome thrash songs ever written, composition, riffs, lyrics and overall aggressiveness is unparalleled ! And yes, Time Does Not Heal, try to play this tune in guitar and find yourself in trouble, so smart and sophisticated riffing. Rinehart is a killer vocalist and delivers in this live.
Ahhhh- there is someone else out there that knows that No one answers is one of the most vicious songs ever. Fucking heavy as hell, fast, sick breakdown (or “mosh part” if you are from the 80’s like I am). I’m 52 years old. This song gets better every time I listen to it.
I think I subconsciously stole this style as a kid and didn’t realize it until just now. I never listened to this song as a kid cuz it had that simple slow 0-1 chug riff. Don’t think I ever realized it got better 😂 Either way, you might appreciate .50 caliber brain surgery on my channel. Tdd
Haven't watched these guys live since 1989 during the "Leave Scars" tour. They absolutely fucking crushed back then, still do!
Hands down the best thrash band from 🇺🇸 can't wait for a new album hopefully as fast and furious as Darkness Descends
RIP JIM DURKIN
Goddamn dude...No One Fucking Answers....absolute beast of a tune so many years later...
Holy crap these guys back together? Loved them back in the 80s. Leave Scars is an epic album. Same raw unrelenting sound, not as frenetic on stage and not surprising, Ron was an insane headbanger! Probably done some damage. Gene is a machine! Great show!
Fuck yeah!! LOVE Dark Angel... fan since 1986. Opened for them and Possessed in Detroit at Blondies WAY back. FUCKING CHEERS!!
Blondie’s!! That takes me back. Lol. I’m from Chicago we..used to go there once in a while for shows hail
The first or 2nd gig. Dark Angel were late. Halloween opened. Great show. Blondie's was awesome.
I met Gene about 25 years ago in this little club in Fremont, Ca called "Club Chaos". Sadus was playing there and he was watching his buddy Steve G. play. I was drunk and a little star struck, but he was so chill. He was much taller than I thought!! I got to see DA back in the day and always loved watching their shows and the pits were always so off the hook! 🤘🤘🤘
I had a similar experience at a Cannibal Corpse show in Seattle, Gene was standing next to me and I though he looks just like Gene Hoglan. After the show I mentioned it to my friend and he said yeah he's right behind you, much taller than I expected!
met him twice here in Canada; first time was in '95 when he was on the Symbolic tour in a small town called Rimouski and i basically fanboy'd out, lol. Told him how much i appreciated his work, especially with Dark Angel and he was so humble & cool and he autographed my ticket stub. That was when he walked with the cane that had the 8-ball on the end of it. The second time was around 2003 in Montreal on tour with SYL and i asked him why he wore sunglasses all those years; he said, "they were prescription sunglasses so i wore them all the time and i thought they looked cool. now i have contact lenses but i've been wearing the same disposable one for a couple of months. i'm the poorest man in this room right now. There's no money in underground metal. NONE." I felt so bad for the guy; he's been one of my idols since my teenage years and i just couldn't believe he wasn't making enough money to at least not have to stretch out wearing his contacts for so long. i bought some merch at the show because that money goes directly to the band. I'm so happy that now he finally seems to be living the good life still playing and at a pretty high level, too, doing what he wants and he seems happy... he deserves it, and much MORE, imo.
Very good performance from the legends!!! Come in Greece guys! Satisfaction guaranteed!!!
They must come in Greece, I've been waiting for them for about 25 years since they had to cancell a planned show here in a small club named "Woodstock".
Ήρθαν και τα γαμήσαν όλα!!
Bear with me here this will be long. In the mid 80’s when I was in high school I was in a band with my friends. Just messing around, jamming in my friends basement in Dobbs Ferry, NY. The drummer, Max, already at 16 years old, was very good. I played guitar but was nowhere near the level of Max. We were already heavily into Dark angel- when record albums ruled. There was a local underground metal/hardcore record shop called Record Stop/Mad Platters. There was a local band called Prime Evil, which I already had their demo (with the awesome song “Random Violence”) on it. In the window of Record Stop was an ad saying “drummer wanted for local band. The band was Prime Evil. Now if anyone remembers how the 80’s were regarding records and cassette tapes, there were always pull-out sleeves with extras in it like pics of the band and special thanks to whoever helped with the album. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED reading who certain bands thanked, for example the new album by whoever would say “special thanks to Slayer, Exodus, Hirax, Kreator, etc” You get what I’m saying. I noticed in the insert on Prime Evil’s demo they thanked Gene from Dark Angel. We called the number Prime Evil left and they scheduled a jam session so Max could try out for the band about a week later. Waiting with anticipation I mentioned “wouldn’t that be sick if Gene came with them. I mentioned it numerous times but we just laughed because we had no idea if Gene was even the same STATE as Prime Evil, let alone the same COUNTRY as Prime Evil. The day comes for Max’s audition and we are looking out the window waiting for Prime Evil to show up. They finally pull up to the house and parked across the street. It was a small 2 door car and when everyone is out of the car, we watch (still in the house) the drivers side seat gets pushed forward and out comes Gene..we flipped out. By the time they got to the front door we regained our composure and Max tried out. The first song they did was Slayer’s “Die by the sword”I don’t remember the rest but Gene ended up playing and we watched in amazement. Max did not make the cut for the band, but eventually became popular in Murphy’s Law for a while and then he was in H2O. There’s others that I can’t remember. I will NEVER forget that. Great guy too
how great they were, are and will be DARK FUCKING ANGEL, how we enjoyed them, when they came to my country CHILE in 2014, what a fucking great set list...aaarrrggghhh
I enjoy all the YT footage from that show! That was their first live performance with the Leave Scars lineup since 1990 if I'm not mistaken?
Saw them at Fender's Ballroom back in the day. the show opened with Gene rising up behind the drums flipping the crowd off and the crowd crawling all over each other to flip him off. LA Thrash legends!!!
Dark Angel is such an underrated metal band. Darkness Descends is in my opinion an absolutely classic thrash album. I hope they make a new album soon. Us Dark Angel fans have been waiting for one for over 30 years!!
This is good but I'd love to Eriksen back as a guitar team with Meyer, put them on a level with the H team. Also preferred Doty, but hey it's probably a miracle there all still alive and together! Been a fan since '87
Eric Meyer is awesome man, so underrated. Top 10 Thrash Guitarists of all time for me, those riffs are crushing.
Ich habe Dark Angel mal in den 80er Live gesehen das war so geil
❤
Eric Meyer still a beast. First time I seen them was 1989. They were fucking shredders then. Ron is on of the best vocalist there is. Dark Angel kids this is Metal!!!🤘
Just discovered this. I was listening to Live Scars the other day. So fuckin raw.
Little anecdote about Gene, showing how cool he is:
In 2002 we went to a Death Angel show in Eindhoven (Netherlands) and afterwards we had a little car collision just in the street of the venue (Effenaar). We were all drunk (except the drivers) and having fun on the pavement while the paper work was done. Suddenly Gene came walking by with his stick and a woman, they had also attended the gig and where also drunk and heading to their hotel. We had some fun together and we offered them a ride. Finally they agreed. Gene gets in the passenger seat, with the car shaking and I throw the door closed when I heard a scream. His right hand was between the door and the post... I was apologizing immediately, hoping I hadn't broken his fingers...
The next day we were on the Dynamo Open Air festival and we saw Gene walking over the festivalground (he had to play there with Strapping young lad). He remembered us, laughed and made a cross sign to keep us away. I asked how his hand was and he just said "ah it's ok, thanks for the ride!" .... What a legend.
Great Show. Also that was a great tribute to Scott Hall
Amazing show. Time Does Not Heal deserved more attention.
I wish Leave Scars had the same production as TDNH
Leave Scars is my fav DA album because the riffs sound so f evil and the whole album is so gritty and drenched in heaviness. I know many don't share my opinion but I can't help it, I f love it!🤘
Dark angel doesn't have a bad album they progress on each one musically lyrically production wise
@@RushianRichard Leave scars is truly an evil album so I couldn'y agree more..- even though I think Times is probably the best Thrash album ever along with Reign In Blood.. Just my humble opinion🤘
@@tingtut6663 Thx for your opinion. Due to the evil riffs, hyper agressive vocals, insane speed and gritty sound it connects to my gut feeling like few other albums. The album has the vibe of a bullet train from hell that's about to derail but nevertheless barely manages to keep on track. I love that nervous energy. When bands lose something of their prime heaviness and aggression it's almost a slight disappointment to me. I felt it with TDNH, I also felt it with Slayer after Reign in Blood, I even felt it when Death released "Human", although I now know I just couldn't handle the brilliant progressive fusion elements yet, that needed time. It's all a matter of taste, and I agree the "other" albums that are mentioned are truly excellent, but when I want to go into that specific old skool adrenaline rush, albums like "Leave Scars", "Bonded by Blood", "Reign in Blood", "Leprosy" (and just a few others) can deliver like no other. Arrr, I need to quit now, I'm getting too hyped...lol
The woman playing guitar is Gene's wife.
Really?
@@maladyjohnson3397 yes
Wow
Fucking badass
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for the video!!!!!
Brutal !!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟
we have arrived.so great!!
Wow,sounds amazing! Thx for sharing
DARK FUCKING ANGEL !!!🤘👹🤘 🔥🔥🔥
Love how Gene still has that speed on his skank beat but he's dropped half the hits to make it through the show. The man's nearly 55 yet still has the same energy that he had at 19. His wife shredding in Jim Durkin's place? So awesome! Also, please come to the UK soon!
dropped half the notes? do you mean that Gene is skipping some of the high hat/ride hits during the fast beat?
@@missionfitness7933 exactly. I meant hits
@@Palestina.non.grata86however he seems to stay precise
Killer show.... come to Greece pleazeeee...
🔥DARK FUCKING ANGEL🔥🤘🏻👹🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
The most mental gig I ever had the joy of attending was Dark Angel supporting Nuclear Assault at a wee place called the Mayfair in Glasgow back in 89, I recall half the crowd was airborne at any given time, I sustained a dislocated knee in the pit and went down, luckily the friendliest place in the world back in the day, I was helped unceremoniously toward the back by the crowd and out of danger. Sigh... Grandpa Simpson here ;-)
Beautiful❤️👍
6:19 you see the guitarist tap the singer casually on the back to let him know he is behind him. It show great stage experience, impressive.
Wow! Indeed! Thanks for showing.
Gene back in the drivers seat 🥁 🥁
Awesome thanks friend DA where so GD in my teen years .
It's Great!!!!!!! Great performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sick A.F. show...Awesome band! Just as sick as they were back in the 80's growing up in LA. Glad to see they are touring again.
6:25 good job ron.i wish the forbidden singer was half as good nowadays.he was one of the best.
Gene is back with Dark Angel? That is awesome but at the same time he was great in Testament.
He was also good in Strapping Young Lad and Death.
Saw Dark Angel at California Deathfest 2018. Oakland. Cancer, Skinless, Exhorder, Doom, Sinister, and loads of others. 🤘🎸😈
Amo
White Noise, great new track , can't wait
I love this fucking band
Did a couple of shows with them in 80’s - Hollywood Palladium
I have a photo from me with Gene and a drumstick 🤘 Many greetings from Germany. Viele Grüße aus Deutschland
Old school lendário
How convenient is to have a wife who can play your whole frenetic one hour setlist when your guitarist is unable to come?
Remember that Gene is also a guitarist so they probably jammed together lots!
That's Gene's wife?? That's so cool!
F U D I D O 🤘
Seen Dark Angel at Fenders Ballroom in Long Beach in 1984.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 #TeamDarkAngel
Radio top 10 music just kiddin awesome rock on forever #kenvorland
I have no idea why everyone is hating Ron Rinehart sounds amazing like always... more age to his voice nowadays so it sounds deeper
Laura from WARFACE!!! 😎 👍
Awesome ♥
Guitars chunka,chunka. Awesome.
Is Ron Rinehart the singer??? I do not reconize him...Greetings from Chile...!!!
Nice band..
Gene Hoglan - LEGEND
Killer show. Come to Hannover Germany please.
I saw this great Band 1990 or 1991 in Germany
Helleluyah! Come to Poland :)
Rule In Peace Jim Durkin.🤘🤘
Wow… Gene’s gotta live in bad ass guitar player wife!! 🤘😎🤘
Interesting to see that the 'Time does not heal' album gets little time in their comeback setlists.
Nagy kár, szerintem a Time does not heal minden idők egyik legjobb thrash/power albuma! Az első daltól az utolsóig zseniális, nincs töltelék nóta! 👌🤘
So this was the reason for Gene leaving Testament. If so, it's understandable. They still jam like it's 40 yrs ago... 🤘
Que alineación están aquí alguien me dice porfa!!! Saludos......
Welcome to the slaughter house. Saw them back in the 80s with Savage Grace in LA
What's happened with Jim?
And Jim Durkin?????????
DARK ANGEL guitarist Jim Durkin was unable to make the Hell's Heroes show and was replaced at the gig by Laura Christine, wife of DARK ANGEL drummer Gene Hoglan.
@@patricecharbonneau8536 Thanks
@@patricecharbonneau8536 He's sadly passed away now
Sometimes dead is better.
Is this what Gene left Testament for? I’m not sure what the endgame is here? Dark Angel back together? Tour?
It is kinda cool, but if this is it, sure seems like a curious decision.
NO POGO NO STAGE DIVING...??MISS THE 80S
The band of my life-... . . The pure fucking brutality hecha obscuridad y violecia! NO IMPORTA! No pido más!
ahh.. Sadus!!!!
Viking Bunny Still loves Ron.
WTF? When did they get a female guitarist? What happened to Jim Durkin? Hey, more power to them if this is how they're going to continue, but I was just surprised by this change in the lineup.
R.I.P. Jim Durkin!
WHY DO THEY NEVER PLAY LEAvE SCARS????????
Who is singing
Women Metal Guitarists are way cool!!! Glad they announced her.
I don’t get it, what is the appeal? Serious question
20221218
So many great singers out there… why do they keep putting Rinehart out there? He looked so uninterested to be there.
Oh well...we'll just go reanimate Doty.....Rineheart is the man, better singer.
@@thegrimmfluencer that is your opinion and I am glad we can all still have one. Rock on!
He literally ruined every song... I'll never understand why thrash bands, especially the caliber of Dark Angel keep such shitty 'singers'.
Is that Rob Rinehart? I know it's been a long time but this dude does not sound like Rob at all, when he sings or talks. Rob has a pretty distinct voice.
@dispensethecredulous yep it's Ron. I love Time Does Not Heal, he did a great job but he can't sing nowadays. Still give him his dues for trying tho
Would it kill you to shoot the crowd, the pit once in a while? Ha. That's a great vantage point for it. Wait. You just zoomed out at minute 27 and, I see no pit. That's alright. Probably a room of old fogey's like me who can't mosh like we used to. Ha
First song guitar problems really suck.
Durkin jump ship again?
Pretty sure he's still with them. They are all pretty tight bunch!
YUP
Hoglan showed us first hand why he’s a drummer and not a frontman, although he wasn’t much worse than Ron. They played their shit well but the between-song banter and even the way they first came on stage came off very amateurish.
seemed pretty pro to me, but im sure your band could do it better
@@jaydonald4898 Yeah cause no one can criticize anything unless they can do it better. So since I’m not a movie director I guess that means I have to like every single movie.
Always easier to criticize than to do... they fucking crushed, they were pro and cool as hell to everyone. My message to the band, Come back to Houston, we will be waiting
Sounds good to me man!
Been a fan since 1990, but we don’t really need this reunion tbh
Why not? Do we really not need good thrash metal bands?
So pathetic. Who is this on vocals? Just horrible
Am I the only one disappointed with the vocals?
Not very good band lol
Fucken brutal !!!!
