    this reminds me of watching an interview with JAY JAY FRENCH (founding member and gutiarist of 80's metal band twisted sister). he said, in the mid 80's, he was on top of the world. hit songs, popular MTV videos, successfull tours, etc. but by the end of the 80's (as we know, twistered sister didn't have the long of a career), he said he did AT HOME stereo installations for rich kids. he would be setting up the stereo, record player, cassette deck, tuner, speakers etc. for the kid and while he was doing this, he would often see twisted sister posters on the wall. in just a few short years, he went from ROCK STAR to doing audio/stereo installations for rich kids.

      it was in a YT interview with JJ I found many years ago. he can sure make a story entertaining. he talks about playing the clubs back in NJ/NY. the record deal, touring. apparently the records labels hated them. it was interesting how they actually got the record deal. but I think the record executive at the record company that signed them actually wanted them to fail. once they got the record deal, the label wouldn't give them a dime to tour. the whole band had to buy a van and drive to salt lake city for their 1st gig with queensyche (who got a record deal around the same time). they show up in salt lake city and queensryche already has a decked out sleeper bus for their tour. if I remember, queensryche (who apparently had got a wod of cash with their record deal) helped them out some.

    Good Will Hunting was very good, with Robin Williams giving a stellar performance as the insightful, depressed therapist and Matt excellent as the traumatized genius, but my favorite performance of his, and film, is "The Talented Mr.Ripley." Incredible directing, cast, writing, pacing, music, locations, and the immense talent make it a top ten film for this cinephile. A must watch film (and great read for Patricia Highsmith fans).

    If they were truly artists in that industry, the culture would reflect it. The majority are in it for the fame, fortune, luxury, and comfort and the culture reflects that too. Everyone knows that, no matter how they try to dress it up with fancy interviews. It’s not really that elevated a pursuit. You’d be doing more for your fellow man if you were a good plumber that charged reasonable rates.

      There's nothing elevated about it at all. 10 or 11 year olds have won Oscars for best acting, not to mention all the under 16 kids that have been nominated. Imagine a 10 or 11 year old winning employee of the year in any other profession.

      LMAO where are the 'truly artists'? Who are your 'truly artists'?
      Every ART FORM has those who take it seriously, learn their craft & pursue their vision....& those who see it as a means to a comfortable life. Most artists are driven by a combination of both artistic & practical concerns.
      You think everyone on the walls of MoMA is a 'truly artist', lol? You think da Vinci & Michelangelo didn't have patrons to please? You think Beethoven didn't have to worry about whether Prince Lichnowsky would renew his annuity? Lmao the great artist Beethoven cursed himself for not finessing a Court position & openly admitted he shaped his work for what would succeed in the market.
      Everone has to earn a living, even artists. Especially artists, because being a part-time artist while holding down another job is extremely difficult. These are all things you'd know if you'd ever attempted to be an artist, rather than just a part-time complainer on youtube.

    • @CSUnger
      @CSUnger 24 дні тому +8

      Hey Knucklehead, I AM an artist. And I make a living at it as well. No kidding I have bills to pay, but I know what the driving force behind my art is and it isn’t fame or fortune. It’s doing what I do for the sheer love of it.

    • @carlmullerlane
      @carlmullerlane Місяць тому

      @@Gamevet Sure, it wasn't perfect, but I'd still rate it as excellent imo. Especially when you consider that Damon & Affleck wrote the original screenplay which subsequently won several awards, even though they were pretty much complete newcomers to the film industry. I have a Behavioural Science (Psychology) degree & consider Damon's portrayal of an early childhood trauma survivor as very accurate with all its nuances.
      The way his sense-of-self was so profoundly damaged, irrespective of his intelligence, & how "intellectualisation" became his primary defensive mechanism was beautifully portrayed when he broke down in Robin Williams arms. Notice how Robin Williams kept REPEATING the phrase "it's not your fault" even AFTER Damon said "I know". He did this b/c whilst Damon's character intellectually understood this, emotionally there was a disconnect, leaving him still feeling unlovable, which was why he was so emotionally closed down.
      There were also many other features of Damon's character throughout the film which are genuinely psychologically accurate, demonstrating how impactful early childhood trauma can be, whether it be cognitive distortions of the mind & self or maladaptive coping strategies. Plus, you have to admit, the performances of Damon & Williams (who won several awards for his supporting role) was very compelling. Anyway, sorry about the very long rant, just got a bit carried away with my thoughts here. Also, what did you think of the other 2 movies I mentioned?
