What Are Follow Bots, Hate Raids, And Bot Follows On Twitch?
A Follow Bot is usually when an individual sends dozens, sometimes thousands of fake followers to a Streamer while they are live to troll them or to trigger their alerts for the next few hours.
A Bot Raid is when an individual sends dozens, sometimes thousands of bot accounts to your chat to not only follow you, but also spam hateful comments, slurs, or sometimes a random string of numbers.

How To Stop Bots On Twitch
While live I recommend everyone has the Stream Manager Dashboard open, this allows you access to a lot of quick action buttons that will make most of this safe, yours might not look like mine here on the right but you can add any Quick Action Buttons by clicking the +
So you’re hit with a Bot Raid, your alerts are going off and your chat is being spammed, the first thing you’re going to do is turn on Follower Only Mode meaning only users who follow can chat, this is literally the only time I will ever tell you to use Follower only by the way.
If you use the quick action it usually defaults that there is no cooldown between following and chatting, so I actually recommend turning Follower Only chat by going down below your chatbox, clicking the cog, selecting Follower Only, and selecting 10 minutes.
This should stop the bot messages for now.
Next, you’ll want to click the Clear Chat History Quick action button, this will wipe away all of the messages that were sent originally. I will show you how you can rally your community to also help in a second but first, you’ll also want to skip alerts.
In your broadcasting software, you’ll have a button to skip alerts, Streamlabs has it here, and Streamelements has it here if you are using their obs live plugin.
The final step is to mark the time In-Stream using a marker quick action so you can find the section later for reporting the accounts or removing the follows using CommanderRoot.

I knew a few things from your discord post, but this video really broke things down in depth. Also, I learned more about customizing the stream manager! I'm such a newb and this content is super helpful.
I only clicked on their name to ban them I never went to their full twitch page. I presume that means my ip is basically safe in that case.

This is what I needed 2 days ago. I lost my Grandfather on September 6th and I got my first hate raid on twitch. The troll raids used my dead grandfather to try and rile me up and get to me. Even going as far as to go to my Twitter and making meme edits of my late grandfather calling him slurs among other things. Streaming hs helped me so much the past year and has even helped me cope with life issues like this. But Troll accounts and Bots have forced me to private my Twitter and stop streaming for the moment until I figured out what to do. Thank you so much for this video. Targetted Harassment is awful on people especially if they are in a more vulnerable state like me and my family are.

Loved the focusing on the positive for this video! I had a trouble setting up bots as they always seemed to attack the littlest thing. This helped a bunch!
The keep calm stuff was the best bit of advice I’d been given. This had happened to me when I was offline & had a feeling it would happen again when live. I've watched a few of your videos on twitch guides since I've been around for while with not too much growth. I started streaming heavier and then got hit with bot follows and one raid. Always so useful, I've already switched up my creator dashboard and sent this to my mods, hate raids can be super anxiety inducing but at the end of the day, these people are on the other side of the screen and if you keep calm and don't react then you can't be hurt and the haters aren't satisfied. I'm in a great place right now on my twitch, thanks to your videos I have gotten to this point and I am currently at 66 followers right now but, hoping to grow myself on twitch more each day. I am not yet to affiliate but once I do get to it, I am glade to have join the community of twitch and how many great people that come out of it. Thank you for being yourself, I know there is so much hate at there but I tend to ignore these things because I know what their trying to do to bring me down but, nothing bots can do to bring me down will affect me. I have also kept you on my following list, I did follow your twitch and you kinda stream almost around the time I am either gonna be going to bed at 3am PST. This guy has great guide on growing yourself on twitch, it's helped me grow a bit but hopefully it'll get bigger. ^^

A very good topic to cover! I was bot-raided some months ago and my reaction was "Oh shit, am I famous enough for the hate already?! Mom I made it!" and fooled around it while my mod blocked/reported the bot accounts. I think it was the right approach but I always had doubts about if I should have addresed it more clearly at the time, but hearing what you said convinced me that I did the right thing not bringing everyone in my chat's atention towards it

legit felt this on a deep level. thank you for the advice got follow bot, hate bots, and raid bots all in a 5 min span for the first time. i will admit i panicked then one of my mods recommended this video much appreciated.

Also a quick note, I read somewhere that spam chat bots can still come in and spam derogatory phrases, then self report to get you banned while you're offline. I keep emote only mode on while I'm offline just in case.
They can’t ban you for that, there has been no evidence and no streamers coming forward having been banned for that. It’s just small streamer Twitter spreading a rumours don’t stress :)

This was literally the last video I watched last night before streaming and a couple minutes after going live I got raided by bots!!! No joke! I passed this video up the first time I saw it thinking it was irrelevant to me, but fortunately I took the time to look at it last night. If not I don't know how the heck I would have dealt with that situation. I knew exactly what to do thanks to you guys!
