The whip would have prevented an incident here It looked like Hot Rod Charlie drifted in while Mandaloun drifted out, Midnight Bourbon got squeezed It was an unfortunate racing incident and I'm OK with the DQ, not really Hot Rod Charlie's fault but DQ'ing horses for racing incidents does help make the races safer

You are misguided. The no- whip rule had NOTHING to do with over whipping. Over the last decade, monmouth track maintenance guys would routinely find 4 or 5 "machinas" or BUZZERS on ground after a race. Without a whipping motion, scumbag jockeys can't fix races and hurt horses with buzzers. The loudest complainers were the biggest offenders ..
If Midnight Bourbon doesn't fall no DQ ..I often question the Stewards but this appears to be the correct call ..in my eyes MB was done it was a 2 horse race
Doesn't matter if he was done, HRC still caused him to almost fall and caused him to lose stride and clearly impeded him. @@Oswald_Thatendswald Again it doesn’t matter. Hot Rod Charlie endangered the life of both Midnight Bourbon and Paco Lopez. @@andrewneale3287 In fairness, the horse is more likely to die. And I believe any horse who loses a rider is disqualified automatically because they didn't carry the full weight.

Horse and rider are a team, if your teammate is disqualified, so are you
Um, newsflash, the horse has absolutely NO IDEA THAT HE WAS DISQUALIFIED. He doesn't even know what that means. To HRC, he still thinks he finished ahead of Midnight Bourbon

Still won tho

Mandaloon drifted right and squeezed Midnight Bourbon well before Hot Rod Charlie did.
Thats what i think but no one else seems to
Tell me you had the 1 without saying you had the 1
@@leobowman8149 I never watched the race, just saw the replay...the front view obviously shows Mandaloon veering right first.
@@scottqualls7690 okb well he did nothing warenting a dq
Agreed. I guess they expected Prat to react to that, but kinda hard without a whip. Somewhat hard for a horse going full bore. Definitely stinks!
Dam i wanted Hot Rod Charlie to win
ive always wondered why these jovkey races always was on sand? does anybody know the reason to that?
Whip is a form of correction no whip is ridiculous now the jockeys lives is seriously at stake
They can use crops for that purpose. Why he didn’t, don’t know. Maybe he thought he was clear.
Equestrian Fashionista because out of fear they avoid it because they dont want to get suspended or fined
@@equestrianwhotravels Monmouth banned all crops and bats. They are only allowed to carry them. They can not touch the horse whatsoever or they are fined. Even a tap on the shoulder results in a major fine
All you can do is show them. You can't touch the horse. For some horses just seeing the crop is enough; Secretariat was like that, he'd pick up the pace if he saw it. A lot of horses need the tap, though. Not to mention that it's also a tool for correcting direction, not just encouragement.
The whip would have prevented an incident here
It looked like Hot Rod Charlie drifted in while Mandaloun drifted out, Midnight Bourbon got squeezed
It was an unfortunate racing incident and I'm OK with the DQ, not really Hot Rod Charlie's fault but DQ'ing horses for racing incidents does help make the races safer
These things do happen, unfortunately, and I agree with you that the DQ is legit, but the real problem was the whip rule. I'm glad that neither horse nor rider was hurt but this was an avoidable accident. The whip rule needs to be rescinded.
Surprisingly this doesn't happen more in horse racing. It gets pretty tight out there. Hope all is well!
Nice ride Prat. What a joke.
Si apreciamos la carrera el 4 se cargo mucho adentro y provoco el tropiezo
The worst thing I ever saw in person was Chris McCarron on Inexcessivelygood in The Jim Beam Stakes at Turfway back in '97. This was literally nothing compared to that.
@@pinfeetshmo I actually saw that race on tvg. I was at the Jim Beam in 97. It was literally like time stood still. The look of shock on McCarron's face was terrible. And Baffert trying to catch his mortally wounded horse was just the worst thing I've ever seen.
Watch what irad Ortiz did in the 20 million $ Saudi cup 2 years ago....and he still does that craps today
If you are on a straight track racing to the wire…..why would you change lanes?
@Balli, they do it to herd the other horse and try to intimidate.
Also, some horses naturally swerve left to get with the herd and avoid the crowd on the right. The jockeys need to steer.
What a race beside

IMO they should implement lanes in horse racing. Changes must be made to make the sport safer for both horse and rider. This could have ended really badly. Hope the rider recovers fast.
Good idea but how are you going to do it
@@greer8288 I guess you could use paint. it would be easier on turf than dirt I suppose. Still, you'd have to keep repainting the lines or they'd be unrecognizable after a few races.

Midnight bourbon was a beaten horse and falling back before hot rod Charlie started to move in . To bad it happened and to bad hot rod Charlie didn’t stay to the outside one more stride then he would have been clear
HRC is a hard luck horse. Even when he "wins" he loses.
It was the jockey fault he came over on the 6
@@greer8288 I agree, just that HRC had a poor jockey this time.

How is this jockey and horse?
Fine
Got pinched - clipped hooves with lead horse - fell - staggered out of it - all survived. Hot Rod Charlie caused it but jockey's fault however. He steered him -- poorly.
Wish the best for a recovery for the jockey.
Mandaloun finally got a break!!!
Mandaloun had a PERFECT lucky trip in the ky derby....just wasnt good enough.
Good job outrider
hot rod charlie should get a new jockey.irad ortiz or jose would be good for the horse
They have horse racing where I live. Never been to one.
Should've kept Talamo back on Midnight. @:36 Paco did the same thing first and Prat skillfully avoided being squeezed in. Then at the 1/4 pole, Paco tried to bust a Maximum Security move and force Hot Rod out and Mandaloun kinda squeezed him out too... Just all bad by Paco... Just saying
This unsafe riding needs to be addressed before we have severely injured jockeys horses or worse. Wake up stewards do your job!
@Andrew Ambriz, you are pretty clueless as to watching a race.
@@anthonya2349 VERY clueless...wasnt really anyone's fault. Hot Rod has been a HANGER who's only win this year was wire to wire in the Louisiana derby. He is still learning how to pass horses in the stretch correctly, something that is not easy to do for some horses. This was a great(but near tragic) schooling race for Hot Rod...
@@marklewen9384 Yeah exactly, he even tried wiring the field in the Belmont and still got run down, he's a good horse, but it's true that he hangs and doesn't really seem like he likes to pass horses.
Dude that other jockey cut paco off that’s not fair 😵💫😵😤
Yes, Prat was suspended…
Hope Lopez is ok. Horrific fall cause by being cut off with not enough room. Not buying the crop excuse being posited by many. Stewards right to make quick call DQing HRC.

Yes
How is Jockey?
looks like an accident than deliberate.. hope all jockeys and horses are ok - they are amazing
Yeah ofc it was just an accident, but it still could've caused a horrific scene, hence why HRC was disqualified
Lopez had a soft tissue ankle injury, but came back and rode again a day later. Bourbon walked off fine.
Miracle everybody was okay.
Changing the rules in not using the crop in the last stretch caused this accident wherein the horses were not able to be directed by the jockeys. The jockeys should refuse to race at Monmouth maybe they will get rid of this ridiculous rule.
Fuckery rule this dem have bout u can't use whip the stretch unu tink whip only use to beat horse this ole lot pushing going cuz accident that's why I don't wager Monmouth some horse definitely need the whip to get down in the race
The jockey intentionally guided hrc into the #6. It had nothing to do with a whip. You steer a horse using your hands, not a whip. A whip is only used to try to get a horse to run faster
Hot rod might have drifted across in front but the clip happened as midnight's jockeys tried to pull him out wide tonfind space too early
WoW... That was crazy , Go HotRodCharly muy favourite
HRC almost caused a horrific accident as there was still horses behind Midnight Bourbon. The DQ was definitely the right call, you are NOT ALLOWED to impede the progress of a horse at ANY STAGE in the race, no matter if the horse you impeded was gonna lose anyways
yeah I agree but even if that's the case, he still would have gotten 3rd if Hot Rod Charlie hadn't tripped him up. Instead he got a DNF.
@@Oswald_Thatendswald Again it doesn’t matter. Hot Rod Charlie endangered the life of both Midnight Bourbon and Paco Lopez. Midnight Bourbon is an extremely rare case in which the horse lives in this situation. Most horse who do what he did usually end up breaking a leg or something, the fact that he didn’t is very rare. But, the DQ needed to happen, because HRC and Flavien can’t get away for that bc if it happens again, I’m afraid the outcome won’t be as nice next time. A horse does NOT have to fall to result in a DQ, your guy’s logic is terrifying, cause you don’t want horses to be DQ’d unless another horse falls down, but that shouldn’t have to happen
Hot Rod Charlie won
Yes, Chuck won.

Horses run these races at 30-35.
