I have 2 Madeira island blacks (purchased from Fruitnut) and 2 black Madiera’s (one grafted on Janice I purchased from you). I have one of each in ground and one of each in 15 gallon pots and both MiB’s are easily twice as vigorous based on the amount of growth they put on annually. The fruits do taste very similar tho, so it is still possible they are the same in my opinion.
Were the MIBs you purchased grafted or rooted? If grafted, that could very well account for the difference but there are also big differences from tree to tree. My MIB is not very vigorous. One friend who rooted one of my Black Madeira cuttings reported it grew about 6' the first year. Plant 100 of each and report back. :)
