Best video about the history of Point Fortin ever. While I know it's not just about oil, there are some important facts that were excluded that are well worth mentioning.

One of the best "histories" of Point Fortin ever told on UA-cam. Let me "Point😀out a few things though.
Firstly ,the area was accessible by the beach between La Brea and the Clifton Hill. estate. The government road bypassed the center of todays Point Fortin and went on to the Cedros peninsula. Entry to Point was a road/track from CapeVille Junction. The Coastal steamer service stopped off at a jetty in Capdeville to take on produce from estates in the area, and a few passengers. There was even an industrial site somewhere in the vicinity of todays Guapo beach.
Also, to say that Bebe Thompson discovered oil in Point simply because there was asphalt in La Brea, is an over-simplification of the facts.
La Brea was indeed one of the earliest locations oil was drilled for in the world. Without looking at my sources and notes, I think that only Baku, Azerbaijan is older, but then it depends on wether you are talking about commercial quantities of oil etc.
Bebe thompson mentioned using the beach to travel to Point Fortin in his book. He was a geologist and conducted studies along a well-known geological fault (the Junior Sec/Self Help area) which led to drilling of the first successful oil wells in the same area.
The video excludes Point Fortin's contribution as a center of the trade union movement and the labour unrest (Butler strikes ) in1937, and the contribution of the oil refinery to the allies winning WW2.
