Scorsese’s musical director had great taste. The great Robbie Robertson of The Band. Robertson should know “Ain’t Got No Home” very well, considering that The Band covered this song on their Oldies album, “Moondog Matinee”. Levon Helm sang the hell out of it.

Nicky however wanted to run things by force, committing murder, armed robbery, extortion and then getting involved with drugs and shootouts with his crew drawing way too much attention, which is why he was whacked at the end.

It makes a lot of sense how Frankie was so easily and viciously able to turn on Nicky in the end. Just watch his body language and subtle reactions to Nicky's behavior in this scene and throughout the movie. He was incredibly loyal to the bosses and the organization, so he protected Nicky no matter what. But it's clear he really disapproved of and was growing exhausted of Nicky's unnecessary, egotistically destructive bullshit. Scorsese did a good job of keeping it on the periphery and not giving it too much focus, so as not to foreshadow Nicky's demise, but it's there if you watch for it. Especially after the bus stop scene where Nicky threatens to wanna go to war with the bosses.
Yes, in the hierarchy of the mafia people like henry, jimmy and tommy were low level gangsters (comparatively speaking), high level gangsters would be the old guys in Casino who were calling all the hits to cover loose ends, they dont have to lift a finger, they can just collect millions and end peoples lives by giving the order.

I think it captures, in an ingenious way, the mentality of not just gangsters and thugs, but people in general who feel entitled in ways most of us can't relate to. The casino setting is the perfect context for a very piercing metaphor for the facade of the political economy, what are really rigged games. Pesci telling the dealer that if he had any heart he would be out stealing for a living is as profound as anything else in the movie. It is the ethos of bad people, so rarely expressed with such clarity by villains who are usually always portrayed as one dimensional ego maniacs.

I love the way that the mobsters in Casino, Goodfellas and other similar mafia films always look for the nearest inanimate object to throw/beat their helpless victim with. Trash cans, waste paper baskets, pay phones, hand dryers... The list is endless. 😂 Stamping with the sole of a foot is also a typical trait.

You love watching people like this who have both a short fuse and high charisma, but actually having to deal with them on a daily basis is the most nerve wracking thing any human can go through. Ten times worse knowing you can't kick their ass into behaving because they'll either have you fired or murdered or both.
