I came to this while doing a little research on Glinka, who apparently loved this composition. It really has a lot of Mozart-like gestures and the kind of clarity you hear in classical-period music more than the romantic style. That's not too surprising though, since Mozart loved the clarinet -- I am sure it had an impact on Crusell. It's hard to call it a "quartet" though -- there is no dialogue between individual instruments, just a lead instrument and accompaniment, Glad I could find a performance of it -- thanks...
