Thank you so much. I'm in my fifties and have never done this before! Had to swap out a dead tank on a firepit and found your great video, thank you very much.
thanks for making this so easy. i must change my propane on my tankless water heater, and this tells me all i need to know. it may seem simple, but i have never dealt with propane before so appreciate the video.
👍🙏Thank you sir. Daddy died and he knew how to do this stuff. I wanted to make sure I do this correctly. Thanks for helping us daddy-less daughters (and sons) out here. 🤗💞🤗
Could always spray a mixture of 1:1 ratio of soap and water around the regulator to see if there are any leaks. If you see bubbles, there's a leak and check the tank and regulator.
And people say that I’m the hero this year🤣 You literally helped me do something in less than 20min...including the drive to a gas station down the road to exchange the tank...and I have been fearing/dreading doing this for two weeks😂it was wayyyyyyyyyyy easier than I thought....I had a whole weekend trip to Home Depot for new tools & a tank planned in my mind😂 thank you Thank You THANK YOU! A million thank you’s!!!!
I have some recommendations. First check Consumer Reports (USA) to see if the product was recalled for a defect and any instructions of what to do. Then check for how to remove it safely with the manufacturer of the device, or your owner's manual. Don't fully trust people online. This video is an example. It's dangerous how he left out the following: 1) Step one, prior to doing anything with a gas grill: Open the lid of the grill to let any potential fumes to air out. *But fan them out too.* Don't want to? See video: "Hannah Storm Update: Backyard Gas Grill Explosion" at ABC News channel. 2) After turning propane tank off, open the lines to let any lingering gas out (i.e., turn the grill knobs, but without igniting it). 3) Check new tank: a) His was missing the VERY important Overfill Protection Device (OPD). It looks like a somewhat triangle shaped knob (like on his old/empty tank). I will let you look up what an OPD is for. b) Check the tank's treads while at the store: If you see a blue tint or blue corrosion on the new tank, reject it. That's a sign it was *used in a drug lab and is contaminated with chemicals* and can be unsafe. (Per the news) 3) Learn how to do a leak test properly and when to do them. Here is what I learned: Brush on soapy water to all sides of the tank, the entire hose, and the regulator and connections. Bubbles show where leaks are. Do a leak test just prior to each use of a gas grill, but also after changes are made to the set-up. I don't mean to take the fun out of grilling, but better safe than sorry! I know I wrote a lot, but when a task can be life or death, isn't the extra time worth it? Have a great day.
Nice video, seems like a super nice guy, but you HAVE to check for leaks. The fact that a person is watching this video implies that they’re not familiar with this process, which naturally means the potential for something to be done even the slightest bit incorrectly is increased! As some others have said, you need to use a 1:1 soap and water mixture around the connections to be sure that there is no leak. This is especially important if you’re going to be keeping your grill in a shed or garage, as a leak at a connection can slowly fill up that space with propane, which is… you know… not good.
Thank you for the very good demo. But I'm so paranoid of the tank exploding and burning my house down. Question: would the tank explode if you made a minor mistake, like not properly connecting the regulator?
Would be nice ot touch on safe transportation to the store. I read that you have to keep the car windows open, no smoking, put the propane tank upright on the floor of the passenger seat, and secure it so it doesn't topple over. Otherwise, thanks!
Great point. For the random reader: Plus, go directly there and back. No leaving it in your parked car during other errands, etc. Cars heat up quickly, even on a mild, overcast day per a Stanford study. The warming will cause gas to be released as a safety feature to prevent pressure build up. And if it tips on its side, liquid propane might escape. And NEVER put a propane tank in a trunk. One more: be aware that the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulates the transportation of these tanks, so these aren't just suggestions without backing. I was surprised to find on forums/blogs, some people don't want to follow the above and they tell others not to. Strange times we live in.

keep making videos, bro. no bullshht, no hype, just regular guy doing a decent video.
Thank you for this instructional video. I have been hesitant to change out my tank, but now, I feel that I will be able to do this.
I love people like this. Not going for money or fame, just trying to be helpful.
Tbh, he did get pretty famous off this video.
Yay! I just changed my propane tank for the first time! Thank you for sharing your clear and easy instructions 😊
As a first time home owner who lives 9hrs away from her parents this was so helpful!! Thank you very much!!
Short & sweet -- gets to the point. That is what I like and not a lot of BS. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you!! I have watched my Brother change my propane tank for years and it looked so complicated. Your explanation made it so easy.
Thank you! That was easy! Clear, concise instructions without a lot of extra chatter!

I can't believe he left out this VERY important step!
I always do that as well as the hose itself. Nothing worse then a leak at the regulator or a crack in the hose

When we turn the knob to open the gas on the new tank do we open it fully or halfway? Like how many turns please. Thank you!
The black part at 1:00 is stuck. I can’t unscrew it no matter what. Any suggestions?
Ty for this video...My husband was seriously injured and I hv to do a lot of jobs I don't want to do but this seems not too complicated 😂
Thank you! This was very helpful.
High five to all the ladies like me that came here!
Amen sista
You glow girl!
Thank you! :)
I've been so freaked out about changing the tank on my bbq for absolutely no reason. 🤦🏻♀️ Thanks to this guy for the video!
Same here girl! High five
My regulator won’t fit it’s too big , how can I fix that
I can't turn the black knob - it won't budge. Any suggestions?
Besides trying harder and/or using more force to spin the knob..
I’d say get a pair of channel locks and go to town

When you say the top valve is turned off, you mean it's completely screwed tight? Or does it have to be loose to be off?😅
