I would consider this the definitive effect pedal guide for bass players. Zach logically categorizes and then explains and demonstrates essential combinations of effects. Keep them coming Zach!
Just watched and listened today. This is now my absolute favorite bass pedal effects video. Thank you for taking the time to produce this. In spring and well done.
Also, so happy to see a youtuber with clearly far greater reach and access to gear do everything I envision. You design fx rigs like I design patches and channels in my neurofunk sessions. I drool over the rigs you set up! 😮 Cheers again, sir!
Great demo!!..of FX use and purpose! Also love that you addressed the issue of actual Bass role in a Band situation pertaining to the use of so many FX in a “live” context! Well done!!...👍🏾🎶✨🎸from a 30yrs+ performing Bassist!!..🇺🇸 Good on ya to take the time!!! Young ones surely need to take heed!!..☝🏾 Keep the skills,..tradition & occupation alive!!...🙏🏾🎶🎸✨
You're the best - for providing invaluable information in a superbly professional and logical manner (all your videos), from one bassist to another - thank you brother!
This opened up a lot of possibilities with my hx stomp. Almost felt like selling it some time ago since I couldn't find a use for all the different effects.. All I needed was some guidance! Great structural video with lots of knowledge, and great sounds :)
this is much better. please don't degenerate into one of those channels where people send you pedals for free, you do a demo chock full of ads to get a few pennies from googleads, and then send the pedals back. people want real endorsements: what you buy, what you use, what you take out on gigs. and of course how you use it.
I noticed that MAS Bodai cab in the background too. It'd be great to hear your review of it along with other cabs and amps you prefer. Keep up the great work!
Reverbs and delay on sixers, especially with lighter gauge strings and dialed a bit toward the bridge pickup, motivate most of my complex melodic licks!
Yeah, I can see why you add some dirt. Your clean tone is... VERY clean. It seems very treble-y to me. You really glossed over Reverb. Do you not consider it a must have for bassists? It seems to me you prefer to use Chorus to add depth? Amazing vid. Very clear explanation of what these pedals do. Thanks!
You do the best reviews... Thank you... Have you ever gotten your hands on a mod duo? I just picked up a beautiful used one at a great price... I haven't left my music room for days...
Hi Zachary! Great video! Have you ever used the Cali76 or any other comp as a limiter for the synth bass sounds? For a synthy bass sound I'm always using an MF101 with dirt and octaver but the dirt always makes a big volume difference between my clean sound. Just wondering if a limiter could tame the beast a little bit! It's usually for pop-ish electronic stuff. Thanks!
Did you remove the source audio manta filter in favor of the iron ether Xerograph Deluxe? From your videos it sounds more natural, what is your take? Thanks for another great video!
Hello Zachary! I really enjoy your videos. They are helpful and inspiring! One question: how do you power all your pedals and do you think you have sort of tone loss while using so much pedals + looper/switcher? I have a similar amount of pedals on my board and it really sucks i loose volume and low end through the signal chain. It is so obvious i dont want to use it that way. Seems like a good looper is a MUST HAVE for 10+ pedals on one board. Bad power supply might be a reason too, mine only has isolated sections so i cannot seperate every single pedal from each other. Another thing is active vs. passive loopers...GigRig G2 seems to be the thing when it comes to negate tone loss because its active but its kinda too professional at least for me (and expensive, obviously). Well thats more than only one question but i would really appreciate to hear some of your thoughts on topics like power supplies/ loopers / tone loss. This might be some FAQ you already answered somewhere and i just missed it! (Sorry!) Go on with these nice videos! Cheers, Marcel
Thank you so much for this video! As a bass player trying to get into live acoustics, rig set up, and signal production this has helped me so much. It's been very hard for me to find information on bass specific effects and filters that's not some kind of edm on a computer program. I use a digitech gnx 4 and with so many options it has always been intimidating to me. What is your opinion on running bass signal though a gnx 4? It seems like the tracking is very good, extensive options but slightly basic. I guess you can't have every effect in the world and all the options to go with it 😁
Hi Zachary, really cool and interesting video! thanks! I have a question, I use a few effects including a mxr delay and a crybaby bass wah on top of overdrive, distortion, fuzz and octaver. There often is the debate about the effect loop of the amp. Do you use it? or do you take all yourr pedalboard into the amp input?
Hi Zarchary, Just wondering about the JHS??? Mod on your Boss OC2??? How's that Benefited the basic functionality of the octaver??? Great Video btw, plenty of food for thought & something to digest into my own playing ;-)
Can't be 100% sure because it has been a while since my board was in this arrangement. But I almost always have my comp after octave, so that would be my guess.
No one ever tries to figure out what octaver or pitch shifter tracks the LOWEST. Not for octave down but octave up... Like sub low B.... USING F0 or something as the lowest note attempted.
Was going to ask the same. They are made not too far from me. How do you like it? Weight? Does it hold up for small club/restaurant gigs? I play in a 4pc blues/rock w guitar/drums/bass/tenor sax

Thanks for that! I was taking notes of my favourite sounds and notice the "OC 2 + Overdrive (Aftershock)" should be at 11:33 . :)

Zach, you are the NPR of bass effect videos. thanks so much
That's a crazy rig, I cant even imagine how much all that gear is worth. Nice Dingwall by the way
all i know is the cali 76, which is $300. So that means that everything easily adds up to $1500-$2000 in just pedals
@@BurningToast22 way more than that.
@@BurningToast22 well each H9 is $500, and the moogerfooger is at least $1500
Wow, brilliantly explained, you squeeze 200% from these effects.
I noticed that MAS Bodai cab in the background too. It'd be great to hear your review of it along with other cabs and amps you prefer. Keep up the great work!
This is my favorite channel. The content and quality are great. Keep it up!
Damian is awesome! He’s my bass teacher
The Aftershock really nails everything I've ever heard from it! Great demo!
Pretty incredible! Very informative and great playing and tasteful usage of these effects!
Bass players guide to the fx Galaxy.
Really informative vid. Thank you for taking the time to make/upload this.
The Mobius sounds amazing! It has been recommended to me and it's easy to see/hear why! Great modulation sounds!
That high gain on the after shock sounded great
This was awesome and really helpful! Thanks

What do you use your Analog Endeavors preset switch for? Just curious. Fantastic video btw!

great vid as always!
What brand and style connectors and cable do you use on your board? Thanks for all you do !

Did you remove the source audio manta filter in favor of the iron ether Xerograph Deluxe? From your videos it sounds more natural, what is your take? Thanks for another great video!
Might I ask what are the dimensions of your pedal board are? I intend on making a board of my own some time soon.
I am going to keep commenting as I watch...

What board is this though? I'm trying to find something that's not as expensive but still fits all of my junk on it.
Have you tried/compared the Iron Ether Xerograph to a Mu-Tron/Micro-Tron III?
What's the pedal above the boss OC2?
Compressor a must! Ideally a comp before all fx and another post fx.... Subtle usage of course

Zachary Rizer that sounds useful, is it anything like the DOD Meatbox??? Have you made a demo video for it on UA-cam??? Thanks, ;-) Andy B
Hi Zach, been wondering, how do you have the pedals set? Which pedals do you have in Boss Es-8's 8 loops and which are after&before Boss? :-)
Is your compressor after the OC2?
Can't be 100% sure because it has been a while since my board was in this arrangement. But I almost always have my comp after octave, so that would be my guess.
Where could we buy this pedals?
Agree Will Mitch.
A lot of expensive pedals for a Nintendo64 sound?
Hey! Submit this to Basstheworld! Both of you are my favorite bassist channels and would love a collab or at least feature!

This is a video about a bass whom slowly got into meth
That's not a bass!
